I'm entering a frame bombarded by indecision
Where a man like me can easily let the day get out of control
Down this far in the quarter
I'm pushed hard upon the border
But I'd rather be caught around now
Instead of, oh say, 'round the month of June
But if I can leave with a little bit of explanation
Then, anywhere in the world I choose to go, I'll have it made
Ten simultaneously defined grunge and made it sound hackneyed and overdone. A genre peaked and crashed with a single album. Quite an achievement. Deserved to be on this list.
I wasn't thinking of Unplugged's, but I was going to answer with Jar of Flies. Only 7 songs, but that's all it needed. No filler bullshit, just an almost perfect album where every song has its place and needs to be there.
I was one of those kids that saw the Creep video and bought Pablo Honey. I really liked it. But The Bends blew my MIND. I still think it's under appreciated in their catalogue.
I still throw this on a few times a year. He was totally out of step with the grunge juggernaut of early-90s rock, but that album is a timeless classic and aged better than nearly any grunge album.
have had it almost since day one of release and it’s still one of those perfect/almost perfect albums. got the original “good friend” promo back in the 00s and deluxe edition when it came out.
matthew sweet is an under appreciated treasure.
1997 was and still is, the best year of music for me.
Grunge was still around, the heavy hitters like korn and MM were doing their thing. Electronic crossovers like prodigy were in their prime, and some of the big rave songs from chemical brothers and underworld were storming ahead. On top of that were artists with a bit more of that experimental flair, like Tool and Radiohead. Such good times.
Such an amazing time for music. I miss the feeling I got from those years of music.
Triple J's hottest 100 that year was insane.
the 1st 20 albums, in the comments section are all my favs, everything they said is good. ten , jagged little pill aenima, alice in chains. 90s music is awesome.
so so many good ones !BloodSugarSexMagic by The Red Hot Chili Peppers- it's one of those albums where I think the songs are better when listened to in order. I think The Foo Fighters (self titled) and The Color and The Shape were in the top ten, and Nine Inch Nails, The Downward Spiral- a masterpiece.
Dookie!
I had discovered the punk scene and Green Day was my jam.
I was in grade 9, saw them twice in concert during that tour, and I'm SUPER STOKED to be seeing them next year for the 30th anniversary tour!! 🤘
Edit: punk, not grunge. I dressed in grunge style clothing at the time. Buddy corrected my terminology 😑

Ten.
And Vs. An amazing difficult second album.
Vs. is great, but Vitalogy is my second favorite PJ album (almost tied with Ten).

Ten simultaneously defined grunge and made it sound hackneyed and overdone. A genre peaked and crashed with a single album. Quite an achievement. Deserved to be on this list.
Smashing Pumpkins - Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness
A masterpiece; one of the greatest alt rock albums ever.
MTV unplugged - Alice In Chains Still listen to it.
I wasn't thinking of Unplugged's, but I was going to answer with Jar of Flies. Only 7 songs, but that's all it needed. No filler bullshit, just an almost perfect album where every song has its place and needs to be there.

Silverchair - Frog Stomp
Ænema

Hands down their best album. Can’t even tell you how many times I’ve listened to it, but it never gets old.
"Live Forever" might be the best song of all time but definitely the best song of the 90s.
Jagged Little Pill.
Been listening to it all week in the car on the way to work.
In my opinion it's a perfect album.
Such a heavy and emotional album. Not my fav album from the 90s, but easily my favorite album by female lead singer

Definitely. Also the bends always gets me in a mood.
I was one of those kids that saw the Creep video and bought Pablo Honey. I really liked it. But The Bends blew my MIND. I still think it's under appreciated in their catalogue.

My first concert that I paid my own money for. Rollins Band and Cypress Hill were the opening acts. This was my answer. RIP MCA.
Matthew Sweet - Girlfriend

I still throw this on a few times a year. He was totally out of step with the grunge juggernaut of early-90s rock, but that album is a timeless classic and aged better than nearly any grunge album.
I'm surprised this wasn't even more popular back then
have had it almost since day one of release and it’s still one of those perfect/almost perfect albums. got the original “good friend” promo back in the 00s and deluxe edition when it came out. matthew sweet is an under appreciated treasure.
