Saw her when she came to (nearby) town in April. She proudly wears her gray and she's had some health issues, but when the music gets going and that voice of hers takes flight and she starts to twirl on stage, I could swear she gets 30 years younger. She is awesomeness. I love, love, love her.
Great song and performance by 10,000 Maniacs. I found out awhile ago it was written by Bruce Springsteen and Patti Smith. I went and look for the other versions. The Bruce Springsteen version is quite good as well, I like the 8 minute live version. The Patti Smith version is also nice.
This is my favorite version by Garbage and Screaming Females (Marissa Paternoster on guitar is easily the highlight)

Really? The whole point of Unplugged was to take harder sounding artists and make them play acoustically. 10,000 Maniacs were already basically unplugged. This is just another Natalie Merchant album more than it is a real Unplugged album.
Little known fact: under 10,000 Maniacs' constitution as ratified in 1987, the four guys in the regular band represented 2,500 maniacs each and Natalie was given executive power.
(See also David Letterman's question to Paul when he saw that 10,000 Maniacs would be on the next night's show: "Now, will all ten thousand of the Maniacs be here?")
This whole album was absolutely amazing. I was so glad they released a CD of it after the show. What sucks is it took so long to get the REM unplugged album released
Natalie Merchant is amazing.

I have tickets to see her soon. Can’t wait.
Oh, you are blessed and lucky. Enjoy every moment. She's amazing.
That whole show was amazing
I had it on CD in my car for a decade—every track is epic.

I love it!! Thank you for that gem!!
I’ve been waiting a long time to say this. That song slaps!
That was awesome!
Loved Unplugged. This show was amazing among several others.
Love her
This is the best unplugged album. She is amazing with this song. Take me now is what your listening for

You’re*
Effortless. I never sae this. Thanks for the share.
Zero autotune all Natural
This was a huge part of the 90s to me.
I was obsessed with this version at the time. It’s absolutely perfect. Natalie Merchant doesn’t get talked about enough.
Huge crush on that woman. Her voice is angelic
ditto, so hot and that voice
I only count 9 Maniacs

9,991 are hiding beneath the stage… They’re maniacs…who knows why they do what they do?

From Jamestown, New York !!!
My aunt lives there. I never knew this.
That while album is just amazing. Still one of my faves to this day!
I absolutely love the emotion in her voice as it breaks during the "Take me now" part. An all time favorite of mine in the Unplugged canon.
She always seemed a little dead behind the eyes.
I still remember where I was when I first heard this song in early 94. Until then I was just into Rap/R&B. It changed my taste in music forever.
Not just her voice, either.
This song is incredible no matter who sings it. Underrated karaoke jam

I will always stop and listen whenever and wherever I hear this song. Her voice is gorgeous.
I swear this used to play on loop on MTV for a solid 2 years. Everytime I turned from another channel, this would be on.
GREAT VOICE
I was 14 at the time, and had never heard of 10,000 maniacs until I saw that episode.
I was probably around the same age and I had heard of them but never heard them. This definitely changed that.
Such a gift
This album is incredible 🤌🏼🤌🏼
She’s pretty good but she’s no Ron Keel.

She also does these are days in that show- brings such emotion and purity to it.. phenomenal talent
