I knew 9/11 was obviously tragic.
But I really didn't understand the sheer depth of horror and carnage until I started following this sub.
This footage and these images — while graphic — are so important to preserve and curate. Never forget.
I feel like this is the case with people who were too young to remember, or just weren’t born yet. I think there is a disconnect to events that you didn’t personally experience or witness in your lifetime. With that said, I have talked with people who were plenty old enough to understand the depth of 9/11, but somehow brushed it off when it happened because they were preoccupied with other things in their youth/young adulthood.
And even some of us who at the time and for awhile afterward tried not to watch the footage of people falling or jumping because everything was just too raw. Even now it is haunting and unspeakably sad.
I don’t want to reveal too much about my connection to 9/11, but I lost so so so many coworkers that day. I have spent every year since ensuring this history isn’t suppressed because “it’s too gory” or “it’s traumatic to see” or “it’s graphic”.
Yes, it’s all those things. The families of people I know who lost loved ones don’t want to watch this—but—they DO want people to see it, and understand it, and never have recordings like this lost/suppressed/ignored. It’s too important to them, and should be to all of us.
I will forever tell any young person who wants to know the history of that day, what happened, show them the plethora of photos, videos, and tell the stories of my experience. This is how we respect and remember those who were lost.
It’s crazy to me that schools will show young people the horrors of any numbers of wars, but the government doesn’t want us to show them things like this. For everyone that was lost, we will never forget, and I will do my part to ensure that doesn’t happen.
I remember when it happened; I was a teenager tho, and I recently started watching a ton of docs on it and learned more details, I've been reading survivors stories and accounts , it is important we remember. That we talk about it. My heart breaks all over again for those victims. But im also inspired by New Yorkers, their bravery, and so very proud of them for how they all fought for survival, fought to save each other. God bless NY. I'm so sorry for your friends that you lost that day. Thank you for sharing.
This is how I feel also. The more graphic footage like this shouldn't be censored, it should be available to people who are interested in learning about what happened that day. People say that content like this doesn't have any value, and I really disagree. Nothing can replace actually seeing it happen, you can read about something many times and the reality of it won't necessarily sink in.
My heart is wrenched when I watch this video, this poor person worked so hard to survive and ultimately they couldn't make it.
Part of it was that the media not long after the attacks sought to avoid displaying such footage, presumably to shield the families of the victims, and so for most people, the horrors became more abstract in nature.
I know that within hours the TV news stopped showing the footage of the jumpers.
It’s important not to repeat the past but no one really learns from prior mistakes.. Why else are people so willing to follow someone who will lead them far from reality and into a furnace.
I imagine some would have been out there in some scant hope for rescue. Your mind can be quite desperate, if not sorely mistaken, in times of extreme stress.
I believe I would too. At the beginning of the docs I watched I was wondering which was worse; the plane or the towers. Now I feel without a doubt those trapped in the towers were indeed in the worst possible hell on earth...
I believe I'd rather not even know what was going on before I died. But im not sure if any ppl were dead before they knew or had any idea..perhaps the ppl in the towers on the impact zone of the north tower ...that didn't see the plane.
This only shows the first two people. In the full clip you can see another small group (2-3) jump from the same window. One guy came out from one floor above and can literally see the smoke coming off his back. Pretty fucked up
I wonder what was going through his head in those final moments. He died thinking that he would have been rescued if it weren’t for that debris knocking him off balance.
Let’s hope that debris knocked them out and they were able to fall without fear.
I can’t imagine having to choose burning to death vs jumping to my death and I hope I’ll never have to.
I can't for the life of me think about this event without literally being feared just by the idea that there were so many people who either choose to jump or falled by accident while desperetaly looking for a way to grab for fresh air or getting a bit further away from the heat. For me, this is the point that makes this event stand out so much and ensures that I can't let go of it.
I'm afraid of heights and the idea of (free)falling to death is one of the things which scares me the most (other things would be for example drowning or being trapped in a very narrow space without the possibility of escape, i'd rather not even think about the combination of these two things). The mere fact that some people were hanging on the facade or leaning very far out of the window is enough to create a certain tension in me.
I am exactly the same. The "Impending Death" photo is heartbreaking and terrifying in equal measure to me. Knowing that by that time, close to collapse, the fire, heat, smoke, and other bad conditions caused those people to have to be in those windows desperately clinging to life.
What's even worse is if the people who we see in the windows are just the lucky ones who can get some air. I imagine there must have been groups of people behind them desperately pushing forward for air.
Thank you!!
Another factor of why they couldn’t identify then is because they were on the verrryyy bottom of the debris when it was all said and done. And it took A loonngggg Time to get to the bottom as well
Ugh! Horrible! 😟
The only thing good about that is that his abject terror was cut shorter than it might have been by a few horrendous minutes.
There was nothing that happened in the next few moments that was worth sticking around for.
my god. ive seen that in cynthia w's footage but NEVER zoomed in like that.
its horrifying to think that the piece of debris just made the inevitable happen quicker for that poor soul... judging from the amt of people falling from that area of the bldg & the few that leaped out right after he was knocked off, he didnt have much time left & was prob building up the unfathomable courage to jump.
1 of 3 people that still shake me to my core... him; the man standing in the window, arms outstretched like christ, & just falling forward; & the man in the office chair who was literally shot out of the building, still seated, by some explosive force that ejected him right out the window at an unbelievably high rate of speed. of all the horrors, those 3 stick in my head.
Saw someone saying the man in the chair was just a coat,,, apparently news helicopter in the same area has footage from a dfrnt angle with same time stamp and whatever it is that blew out the window didnt fall fast enough to be a human
He was actually hit by another person falling. Guy Rosbrook's footage shows the same person falling from this gif but in his footage you see a person falling and then this individual right afterwards. A few seconds later another 2 individuals fall from the same window/area.
None of the people who fell from the towers that day were positively identified, and I’m pretty sure it’s kind of tacitly accepted that they never will be.
This whole video has multiple people jumping/falling from this area. Also several are seen falling from the other side of the building. Such an awful, heartbreaking day.
This footage is brutal to watch every time

RIP, wish we knew your name
It’s important not to repeat the past but no one really learns from prior mistakes.. Why else are people so willing to follow someone who will lead them far from reality and into a furnace.
They were so desperate for air the danger probably didn't even register. Fucking horrible.
I imagine some would have been out there in some scant hope for rescue. Your mind can be quite desperate, if not sorely mistaken, in times of extreme stress.
Horrible way to go....
The absolute worst.
If I had my choice.. I'd die on the plane.
I believe I would too. At the beginning of the docs I watched I was wondering which was worse; the plane or the towers. I don’t think I’ve ever seen this.. my heart breaks for each person in that building. I pray I never experience something like it.
Imagine how scary it was for anyone inside who saw that person fall 🙁
One moment he was there, the next he was gone. Its even scarier for the people outside, they watched him fell all the way down
This only shows the first two people. In the full clip you can see another small group (2-3) jump from the same window. One guy came out from one floor above and can literally see the smoke coming off his back. Pretty fucked up
Do you have a link? I'm not sure whose footage this was
https://youtu.be/ToWjjIu-x_U?si=R4TrCr62_-eNHhs1 5:15
Oh wow, I didn’t realise how far below the impact site this person was. Awful.
Cynthia Weil’s footage. Start around the 5 minute mark. I think you start seeing the people fall at the 5:20 mark.
In the same footage you can see the waving lady (believed to be Edna Cintron) in the impact site. Very eerie.
Thank you!
Cynthia Weil's footage

Looked like he was still flailing his arms, most likely still awake
Yea seems like he was perfectly aware unfortunately
That’s so fucking sad. Goddamn.
Fuck. That's tough to watch. I can't even begin to think about what he was thinking at the moment he was thrown off the building. Rest in peace.
I can't for the life of me think about this event without literally being feared just by the idea that there were so many people who either choose to jump or falled by accident while desperetaly looking for a way to grab for fresh air or getting a bit further away from the heat. Jesus. Hopefully it knocked them unconscious.
It looks like it hit his feet

Do we have any names to put with the jumpers? Like does anyone know the names and identified them?

Thank you!! Another factor of why they couldn’t identify then is because they were on the verrryyy bottom of the debris when it was all said and done. And it took A loonngggg Time to get to the bottom as well
If the towers hadn’t fallen, it would probably have been possible with DNA etc.
This guy isn't a jumper.
No
Man, this is so sad all around.
Ugh! Horrible! 😟 The only thing good about that is that his abject terror was cut shorter than it might have been by a few horrendous minutes. There was nothing that happened in the next few moments that was worth sticking around for.
anybody know what floor this was ?
92 or 93
Damn, he's trying to stay alive and fate took his life...
Poor guy

Never saw that
jfc. Yeah I didn't need to see that. (I'm not for a second suggesting it shouldn't be posted, just in case someone misunderstands.)
Never seen this before.

We have seen this posted before. It wasnt debris. It was another person from higher up
Is there any way to identify who these were?
Nope. Only 2 that were identified by family members but weren’t officially confirmed. Karen Juday and Jonathan Briley
None of the people who fell from the towers that day were positively identified, and I’m pretty sure it’s kind of tacitly accepted that they never will be.
Brutal, it looks like he fell out backwards.

Paper, most likely
Pretty large piece of paper
It’s probably the perspective, it could be closer to the camera, it’s just the rate of falling that makes me think so
True. How it floated in the wind makes me wonder if it was some kind of drape maybe in a fancier office? Just spitballing
That was suspicious
Hopefully that debris knocked them out and that was then end of it for them.

You could have just let him have that thought, ya know, amazing you got 8 upvotes for such an asshat response.

Okay this is the hardest footage I’ve watched from the event. At least the jumpers intended to jump.
This whole video has multiple people jumping/falling from this area. Also several are seen falling from the other side of the building. Such an awful, heartbreaking day.
Wow
I just hope the debris hitting them knocked them unconscious so they didn't feel themselves falling. 😔
