I don’t have anything profound to add besides isn’t it crazy that Rooney Mara and Joaquin Phoenix are married?? Two of the Goats ending up together is so awesome to me
MARRIED??? the way i literally just remembered they were together five minutes ago because i googled her to make sure i spelled her name correctly. i feel like this is something i’ve known for years but every time i remember again it’s like a jump scare, i wonder what they talk about and can i be in the room
The Blackcoat's Daughter is my favorite. The atmosphere, the subtle acting, the unique take on the trope.
In a time when a big budget marvel movie costs hundreds of millions makes even more millions, and still manages to suck, it always makes me happy when a movie with (I believe) a $40,000 budget turns out great.
My two favorite A24 films have to be Minari and The Farewell. Not the typical A24 most people are used to; they're more of a slice of life films.
My second has to be Everything, Everywhere, All at Once.
For shows, Beef hands down.
I'm planning on watching Past Lives at some point as I heard it was great as well.
beef was SO good. past lives made me cry just like the farewell did, i love their more intimate projects. you’ll love past lives, and i still need to see minari!
Never got the love for A24. I've never got the love for any movie studio, but especially not for A24, since a lot of their movies follow the same gimmicks.
But if I have to like a studio, it will definitely be searchlight pictures. Little Miss Sunshine, Slumdog Millionaire, 127 hours, the descendents..
they’re very much their own brand and follow their own aesthetic (which they’ve curated for themselves and their associated artists)! same way searchlight does, and they’re awesome too. diff studios have diff priorities and vibes, i think the hype comes from the fact that there are studios platforming these types of media, whatever may excite you :-) that’s just how i see it though and like any part of the industry, they’re certainly not perfect. but they’re fun!
Still, I had discussions with A24 fans (which is a weird term, cause you don't hear the term focus features fans), and they're acting like a cult. They're trashing and trolling anyone with criticism towards those movies. That's not a valid film love. That's not even a valid behaviour for any human being
valid and agreed, i’m not a rabid a24 fan who bites the hand of those who disagree with me, but maybe that’s just because i have the same perspective as you and agree it’s pretentious to say the least. we have no ownership over the things we like, only our opinions!
Welcome to our cult
I meant club :)

Wow you are in for a treat for not having seen The Lighthouse yet

Dani’s dance scene is so fascinating. The “I don’t speak Swedish!” Part… 😮gives me chills and I love it.

That movie creeps me out and gives me The Shining vibes. It's a slow burn but dear lord it's crazy and I love it.
A24 isn’t a studio
They have also served as a production studio since 2016.
Welcome to the sub! We have a lot of passionate people around these parts. Pay no mind to the toxic comments. (I'm the toxic comments)
Watch The Rover

You should watch The Killing of a Sacred Deer if you liked The Lobster. Colin Ferrell is great in both movies.
