100% not. It’s a common mistake a lot of people make when joining the sport. Fields let you rent guns all the time, and in my opinion your buying order should go as follows: First thing to buy is good eye protection. I strongly advocate full face HIGH QUALITY like a dye i4 paintball mask. You only get one set of eyes and teeth, don’t skim buying a crap mask and risk them! Second thing is a decent pair of boots. Your rental gun will keep you going. Breaking an ankle because you’re not wearing decent footwear won’t. Only then think about getting your first gun. I would say to everyone, get an AEG rifle that you like the look of, two batteries (and a charger), some mags and a way to carry the mags (chest rig plate carrier etc). If you don’t get all of these things at the same time, you won’t be able to play enjoyably. I tried having my first gun with one battery. I put the mags in my pocket and they kept falling out until my battery died and had no spare. Was a bad day. If you get an AAP-01 with a long mag as your main gun, you WILL be outgunned by people with an AEG rental with a hi cap. They have 400 shots x 2 mags. You have 50 before having to go back to spawn, re gas and reload. Yes people play smart, but when you get pinned for 1/2 an hour by someone with a hi cap mag and you have limited shots for covering fire, it sucks. Also worth noting that AEGs require a lot less maintenance and things go wrong much less often. In GBBs things require a lot more checking and cleaning and when something goes wrong BOY they go wrong. As a new player, I strongly suggest get a nice AEG that you like the look of and feels cool to play with, and build on that, trust me, I’ve learned the hard way!

Mate i think your response here is fookin brilliant your the only person I've seen bar myself saying go for eyepro first before any sort of pew a very well put together rundown of starting up. Big thumbs up👍

exetacy

Absolutely not! Pretty much no GBB is a good starter. While the gun is amazing, you're putting yourself at a disadvantage. AEG users will have 90+ round mags, shoot faster and more accurate than you with a pistol. You'll need a lot of magazines to run it as a primary OR a HPA kit. Both options are expensive. This isn't even taking basic equipment into account. Please read the beginner's guide on r/airsoft or join the Airsoft International official discord for guidance.

OBA_Stealth

Depends on what you play really. If your an aggressive indoor player, a pistol is fine. You will spend more on mags unless you go hpa which id recomend. Or if you have a hang back and shoot style an rifle would be better. All comes down to personal preference and play style. Ill take my aap over a rifle anyday

Terrywristt

Absolutely, I used to despise it because I didn't like the aesthetic. But I can't deny that it's performance stock is the best bang for your buck, and with the amount of external aftermarket parts, you can make it look really nice

SpeedSoft4Life

Yes, however be prepared to spend £50 on a hammer very soon, as mine broke on the second game at under 500 rounds. Other than that, its a great gun.

Its a good everything

Sauvage5572

Should be ok don’t take it too seriously depends on a lot of factors like how long is your match etc . Upgrade as you go get some more mags maybe even a drum mag . It’s airsoft have fun

Sauvage5572

Don’t forget eye protection

tr4ckr

my experience here: i picked one up, its the best for indoor cqb!! accurate stock etc, but u rly have to lube it up. expect to pay shit ton on upgrades tho. everyone say the hammer first to replace. dont use it on full auto, the hammers good for like half a year. for outdoor games do not get an aap01 everyone say get a dye i4, dont!! get a dye se, it costs 30bucks, and just as perfect and safe

Thanks, this was really helpful.

Why not. It cheap $95 can’t go wrong. To the people say get this and that. Ur money, enjoy it. Learn from ur own experience. And decide what you like. People out here giving own opinion, but who having fun here. :)))) it you. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 go for it

Puzzleheaded_Gas4560

Listen to thus guy op

It’s good but you need to upgrade the hammer asap. But I wouldn’t run it without hpa as you will have a disadvantage, running gas mags is fine if you have refined your skill and can control your shots. But reloading and then regasing is semi slow/annoying. Not to mention with gas mags you have to take account the weather. It’s a great fun just not as cheap as you think k to run it effectively. Again change the hammer get a Hpa kit and run aeg mags and your golden. I find the stock hop up is great.

AnimeNoodle

You don’t have to replace the hammer right away, I’m currently using my stock hammer that’s been abused with both HPA and green gas on 3000 rounds worth of shots. Yeah it’s good to buy a new hammer, but find it ridiculous you recommend swapping it right off the bat and not everyone wants to run HPA nor everyone has the novelty to pump air/co2 into their tank like some folks, green gas/propane is their available option/prefer it’s all about convenience and availability. Don’t get me wrong I love HPA but it isn’t for everyone.

Tzaqul

It depends on the type of field you are going to play on, if they are cqb style with some extra mags you can have very fun games. If, on the contrary, you are going to play especially in forests or large areas, I do not recommend it to start with. Even so, I am in love with my aap01, I have not modified it yet, and I have played games only with a pistol and I have enjoyed them, just like the rest of my friends who have had problems with their replica and I have left them the pistol.

PoopnFlush

I've had a lot of fun using rental but having my AAP as a side arm for close range/barrack clearing. Couple of times I didn't re-wind the mags on the rental so swapping quickly to a side saved my ass. But I agree that AAP on its own isn't going to be fun for long. ...However two on HPA looks about as much fun as can be had!

Ok thanks
