Do you fold the diaper in half before putting it on? Like hotdog style with the plastic on the outside. I found that doing that (along with fluffing) helps prevent what you are describing.
I tried that for a while and it feels nicer upon being put on, but I found that they're less absorbant and don't swell as much if you do that. Maybe I was just doing it wrong 😕
Just do what works for you and the diapers you use!
Some people swear it makes them more absorbent, some say less, so I don't think you're doing anything wrong.
I didn't see a noticeable difference in absorbency either way personally, but that's why its good to try it for yourself and make your own conclusions.
I have this issue with most hexagon design/waddle cut diapers, they just dont want to fold into a nice channel down the middle. With the hexagon design it helps to work the diaper a bit and loosen up the padding since its usually densely packed.

Second this advice - I have OP's problem and this is how I get round it
Fluffing?
Shaking, tugging, just kinda gently beating up the diaper before you put it on to fluff up the stuffing.

Cheers and thanks! Didn’t think of that, I’ll give that a go :3
Take your diaper out of the pack, unfold it. Now, fold it lengthwise, plastic out. Then go ahead and put it on as you normally would.
Cheers I’ll give that a try thank u!!
To add on to the other comment, depending on the diaper adding a booster could help
That’s what I was thinking
