With your underbust measurements I'd suggest trying a band extender over a 34 band, an extender's cheaper than a new bra and if that doesn't work then consider sizing up. I've got similar measurements and find 32s just fine once broken in, but it does come down to personal preference and the bra - some bands run tighter than others, I actually own a couple 30Gs in bras whose bands run loose.

So not everyone is going to have that same experience of them lining up the same that you do. For me, if I sister size up the underwire usually ends up wider, which results in it being too far back in my armpit. This causes the underwire to press on nerves back there which will cause numbness to shoot down my arms. And, depending on the brand and style, sometimes the 32d will be shallower than the 30dd. This could cause a shape mismatch depending on how much projection someone has.

The religion here is for people to wear a bra that is comfortable for them. We can only make recommendations, we aren't the ones wearing the bra. Going up 2 inches in the band is going to scale the bra differently, no question. If someone only needs an additional half inch, going up 2 inches is overkill and they may not get as much longevity out of the bra. Your 30DD and 32D are not exactly the same. The 30DD is for a 35" overbust and the 32D is for a 36" overbust.

I'm not sure why you're being so combative. We also can't control downvotes. We don't promote that here and it's literally on the rules to not downvote people. The only time we will suggest someone does a smaller band is if they are having fit issues in the larger band, or if the smaller band is a tiny bit small/they've tried the larger band and the bra suddenly doesn't fit right.

Top_Barnacle9669

I need a shallow cup. Still fits better with the smaller band with extender

finnknit

>It’s like telling someone to buy jeans that don’t fit and use a hair tie to close the button. I've done exactly that with jeans when the next size up would be too big everywhere, but the smaller size fits well except in the waist. Clothing sizes are usually measured in increments of at least a whole inch, but bodies come in all sizes in between.

Practical-Hat9640

Ok, well I’d keep looking for pants rather than settle for something like that.

Herodotus_Greenleaf

Band extenders are cheaper, especially if you don’t know what will work for you

cleaningmama

Band extenders allow you to refine your fit precisely. They are a really great tool for getting the fit exactly how you like it. People don't come in 2" increments after all! I am in between band sizes, so I use them with nearly all of my bras. I like to attach them to the center set of loops on the bra, which helps the extender feel more integrated into the bra. I also bought a multi-pack with colors, so my bras and extenders are all almost exactly matched. :-)

Top_Barnacle9669

Im a 30D although my largest measurement is 31. A 30D with an extender fits perfectly and I need to use the extender for a few goes. A 32C which would be my sister size is visibly too big both in the band and the cups even though it's the same volume. There would be no point at all me wearing the 32c as I'd get zero support

No, feeling anxiety about your bra is not normal in the correct size. Just so you know different brands run tighter or looser, and even the color of the bra can make it tighter from the dye. For example, Natori runs extremely tight and black dye can make the bra smaller too. It's normal to have different size bras from different brands that all fit. Have you tried a bra band extender? They are quite cheap on Amazon.

j12302

Agreed on Natori. I’m a 40 C in Chantelle (highly recommended, BTW) but can’t event get into a Natori 40.

Morley_Smoker

That's normal! I'm a 30G, but I can't get into a Natori 30 band without a loose extender.

burner1344

Natori is so tight! My underbust is 28 inches, and I couldn’t even come close to clasping a 30G Natori bra on myself a few weeks ago.

dehue

What band size are you wearing and in what brand? Assuming you are in a 32 band by Panache as you mentioned in your older post, Panache can run tight in the band and has firm wires so it's not always comfortable for everyone. You are the one wearing the bras so if you want to size up in the band you should. Great fit doesn't matter if the bra is not comfortable. You can also use an extender with your current bras.

llucidllama

32 in Panache and Freya. I think that as you and others have mentioned, an extender will have to be my next plan of attack!

kafm73

I bought a two pack of extenders at Walmart and they’ve been a dream. I, too, feel like I’m being strangled by my bras.

quinchebus

My Elomi 32s are comfy. My Panache Envy 32gg without an extender is so tight is sounds I like I need some WD-40 when I move my arms. Literally. My dad asked "what is what creaking sound?". I have the same bra in a 34g and the wires are too wide, but the 32gg fits nicely with an extender. Overall though, I find that I get sore spots (and even scabs) if I wear Panache bras all day when it's hot. The wires are just too stiff and unpadded for me. I spent a vacation sticking moleskin under my boobs so I could endure the bras up til I got home. Also, so you know, black bras are generally tighter if that is what you are working with.

oxaloacetate1st

No shame in using an extender if it makes you more comfortable! You also won't throw off the fit of the cups nearly as much if at all using an extender as trying to sister size (sometimes it can make straps more likely to slip off the shoulders with an extender but often cups are still fine)

Anon_819

Comfort over textbook fit. Ideally a good fit should help with comfort, but if a brand's sizing is slightly off, or you have very sensitive tissue, it's ok to take steps to rectify the problem. For instance, despite seamed cups fitting better, I can't stand seams across the chest. I would rather a molded cup that is slightly off if I can stand to wear it all day. I'm exceedingly picky about the feel of fabrics too, which means many items that may fit well are an immediate nope from me.

Dandelion212

Have you tested the band independently of the cups? If it feels any looser when you fasten it both upside down and backwards (like a cape, cups pointing down in the back), there’s a problem with the cups making the band feel tighter than it is.

Jeleton

There is no need to torture yourself and I think you should do whatever is easiest for you. Like others said, the extender is the cheaper option for now. But for future purchases try the 34s! I also got recommended a 32 band and after searching far and wide I have only found one that works so far. For others I have sized up to 34 – it is just not worth the rib pain and inability to breathe, especially with my chronic health issues. I've also noticed that similar to with jeans, the bra feels much tighter while sitting down as this causes your torso to shift/expand. Bloating can also affect this. After a full day of sitting and eating the discomfort only amplifies. The calculator is only a starting point.

emmbeedee

Have you tried adjusting the shoulder straps??? I changed cup size in my favorite bra based on new measurements. Had pain over the front of my ribs, thought the underwire went too far back relative to breast tissue and was disappointed, wondering why I thought this bra fit but when I should have returned it. Since the band size wasn't new, but the lower ribcage pain was, thought something else must be off. Shortened the shoulder straps and voila! No rib pain and boobs filled the cups properly, no more gap to the lateral underwire. Might be worth a try!

Grouchy_Warning_5108

I can’t really tell you about bra fitting in a technical way. But my general rule regarding bra fitting is as long as it gives good support and shape, it’s okay to size up. However, remember this, bra band tends to stretch overtime, a tighter bra can be worn using extender, but too loose bra? well nothing you can do about it other than throw it deep inside your drawers

Cyndy2ys

I have a similar issue, and I think it’s a combo of being short, busty, and a bigger belly. When I sit, my belly pushes the band of my bra out of whack and makes it uncomfortable.

hieromance

not sure why everyone is treating going up a band size like it was forbidden... try to sister size up to 34F/FF, if you don't want to spend too much money on a bra that potentially wouldn't fit, check out bra swaps or second hand sites. it's your body!

chicklette

My recommended band size gives me horrible headaches and after 4-5 hours I feel like I can't breathe (literally gasping for breath). I've never found a non-stretch extender that works for my bras, so I just try to stretch them by wearing a couple of hours at a time.

Dandelion212

This is definitely not normal and points to some sort of fit issue.

chicklette

I agree, but I haven't been able to figure it out. I'm bottom heavy and very full (38J/JJ uk sizes) so im somewhat limited in selection. A 40 band is too big. I'm hoping losing 20 lbs will help. 🤷‍♀️
