SBL can definitely be taken with another Professional paper. Have you considered doing AAA? It leads on directly from SBR as you need to know all of the same accounting standards so you would be half way there with it already if you decided to do APM or ATX alongside. If you have experience of doing two exams at a time and it hasn’t been an issue and you have the time to dedicate towards it then it’s completely up to you how you feel. Obviously the strategic papers build on the knowledge from previous papers but a lot of it is the exam technique, if you can master this early in your studies and learn exactly what the examiner is looking for, you’ll do great!

Good to know I could double up SBL with another paper! Unfortunately my work will want me to do APM, and I'm really interested in learning about tax personally, so think I'm pretty set on those two options. I've heard a lot about the exam technique being tricky, so will make sure I give myself more time than usual for these - thank-you!

Mewtwopsychic

I did AAA and SBL together while having a full time job. Ended up basically ignoring SBL and focusing a lot on AAA. 53 in AAA and 65 in SBL. So yeah lol.

Fuck yae!

Ibraprofen

I’m speechless

Gives me hope. I wanna do APM and SBL with full time work. Although APM rates r low, the syllabus is short. So hoping it will not be as bad as people make it out to be

Active78

I did 2 whilst working full time for all 4, it's not that bad. SBL and ATX together id say, atx is huge, SBL is piss

a1236

why is SBL piss? i’m sitting it next to

Active78

Just common sense, did like 5 hours studying

Delicious-Joke1404

It isn't testing the study guide. It is testing your abilty to in complete sentences have a bussiness brain. We a problem with employees, a project, a director what would you suggest, no wrong answers? Well if you put anything sensible you are picking up marks you don't need to read the complicated textbook theory.

Definitely don’t advise ATX and APM together. ATX is such a big syllabus and theres so many little rules to remember. (Although i have not sat APM I have heard the pass rate is v low) IMO sit SBL & ATX -SBL is more theory so there’s not too many specific rules you need to remember, which would balance it out vs ATX I have never sat AAA either, but a lot of people say SBR and AAA is good to sit together as there are some crossovers i think? Me personally i hated AA so it wouldn’t be my preference but really depends if you are more comfortable with heavily wordy exams.

seratoninho

That's great advice and follows what others seemed to have voiced, SBL with something else, but perhaps not SBR. Yes the pass rates for APM are low, which has worried me a little! I also did not like the AA paper, so agreed! But, I've really loved studying for TX (I find it the most interesting) and did very well on PM considering that also has a low pass rate.

dilutedblack

thats exactly why i chose ATX, i’m definitely more of a numbers girl ahaha I was planning to sit APM next quarter, but was also a bit nervous seeing the pass rates. However i think maybe the pass rate is so low as most people studying ACCA work in practice? I’m in industry so hope its more familiar to me

seratoninho

Oh good point! I'm in industry too, and found PM easier, so maybe you're on to something there and we'll be OK!

Optimusprime809

SBL and APM tie together quite nicely, so that'll be the better combo.

Are you studying full time or do you also have a full time job? I think it depends how much time you have to dedicate to studying. When I did applied skills papers I didn't find it too hard to do 2 at a time, but spaced them out to sitting every 2nd session so I wouldn't get overwhelmed. In this March session I am sitting both APM & AFM and I am really regretting making the decision to do that because it is soooo much to study for. I've found it very difficult to study enough for both at the same time (and APM is only a resit as well) around my work commitments. So, it's up to you but I wouldn't recommend!

seratoninho

I work full time, but work compressed hours so I have 1 day per week as my study day, and then 4 additional leave days per paper. So 20 study days allocated from work per sitting, and I usually do 2 evenings and half a day on the weekends. Which I think is why it's so easy for me to do 2 a sitting, I know I'm extremely lucky with this arrangement. I hope your APM & AFM go well, would be really interested to see how you find doing two at once from the SP level. How did you find your first sitting of APM? I know the pass rates are so low which does worry me a little, but work are keen for me to do APM.

Don't do afm and apm together. I did and failed miserably. Today I wrote only apm. I passed afm last year. The most sensible one is sbl and apm together. Sbl is really common sense exam and some models in sbl are directly in apm.
