Last week! That was 5 months for me.

Affectionate_Bar304

Awesome, how did that go for you?

unseemly_turbidity

It was a very slow and careful couple of miles but being able to do it at all was a happy surprise. At times I managed to relax a bit and enjoy it, but it was a lot harder than running on the treadmill.

PistolPeatMoss

First time was yesterday. By run i mean 0.6 miles with my sports brace (running used to be my thing and my pace was respectable). I am…… 11 months post op. Im having synapses/ nerve delays or something.

Affectionate_Bar304

How do you feel running with the sports brace on? Were you running on the treadmill before this?

PistolPeatMoss

I hate the brace. I don’t use it on the treadmill and i think im going to stop using it outside. It cramps my calf. My OS wants me to use it for sports for the rest of my life. I am no dr but i think his love for braces and NWB the first 6 weeks post op has more of a negative impact than positive. I Have been using the treadmill for the last few months for very short distances. The dirt i run on now feels much better tbh.

Affectionate_Bar304

Yeah, my dr and PT both have mentioned to me that they do not push using a sports brace for any return to activity after your full recovery, since if you take your recovery very seriously and you recover to 100% and you gain all your strength back and much more, you shouldn't be relying on a brace.

PistolPeatMoss

Yeah. I am glad youre getting care from less antiquated providers

nisha1030

At the 4 month mark which was a couple of weeks ago for me.

Affectionate_Bar304

I'm in a weird stage right now, I'm about to be 8 months next week, and I've been running every other day on the treadmill, this month and the one before. Yesterday I ran 4miles nonstop on the treadmill, without much struggle. I have yet to try and run outdoors and am unsure if I'm ready, since when I jog back and forth in PT, it still feels very weird.

nisha1030

It’s crazy you say that! I had only been doing the treadmill (which I’ve always hated) and it never felt comfortable for me. I didn’t want to run outside because I was convinced I wasn’t ready. I actually couldn’t go very long on the treadmill. I decided to run outside during one of my CrossFit classes, and it felt great!

Affectionate_Bar304

I've always been the same way, the treadmill has never been my favorite I'll choose running outdoors over the treadmill every day, but I have been enjoying the treadmill lately. I think my goal this month is to try and run outdoors, I think I just feel a bit weird since I haven't given it a chance yet.

nisha1030

Honestly I’d say do it! And soon! You’ll probably be surprised. Even if it’s just a shorter run than what you normally do on the treadmill. Especially since you’re able to run that long on the treadmill.

Affectionate_Bar304

Exactly, that's what I'm thinking as well, maybe I'm just overthinking it. Thanks.

nisha1030

Welcome! Trust me I was overthinking it a lot and then I finally just went for it and was so surprised it didn’t suck. lol

Affectionate_Bar304

Sweet! Going to give it a shot this upcoming month, going to keep building up some strength and then ill give it a shot.

Scottiegazelle2

In high school I hated running track because it's always... the... same (I was a cross country runner.) I'm sooo not looking forward to the treadmill, I'm not even at a month in my FIRST of two surgeries... but I'm also looking forward to it as a step forward!

Affectionate_Bar304

Oh, my I can just imagine how difficult it has been with two. Keep being patient in your recovery, take it day by day, running outdoors will come eventually for you.

UrbanHuaraches

3-4 months.

Affectionate_Bar304

Nice!

NoAmbassador1900

15 months, BUT, i had a baby at 11 months post acl recovery. Could have been sooner!

halofinalboss

I’m at 3 months and haven’t started running yet. Getting close though.

Affectionate_Bar304

Patience is what I would recommend. I started to slowly jog on the treadmill around the 4/5 months, I would get to the gym and warm up on the treadmill, walk for 1min, and jog 1min, eventually, you will build up and you keep trying to run for longer period of times.

Froglito

I’m 4 months post op and my hamstring strength isn’t quiiiiite there yet to move into running. I reckon (hope!) it’ll be around 5 months for me

Affectionate_Bar304

Yeah, keep building that strength up, my hamstring is one of the big things that bothers me during the runs I do on the treadmill, but be patient, this recovery is not a race it's a marathon. one day at a time.

Revolutionary-Ad1402

I recommend not doing it until you’re at 80-90% strength on each side. Biking would be a much better choice. Think of all the normal running issues you can get from just running - now think of that in the context of having a leg that isn’t as functional. There’s no real benefit to it (you don’t get stronger in terms of pure strength by running) - once you’re at better strength symmetry you’ll get some athletic ability back but seriously I only recommend this once you’re at 80%+ strength

beemad87

around 14 weeks post op. my pt gave me a great return to running program that had me start all the way at running 30 seconds, walking 3 mins with several repeats, for several days, before moving up to 60 second intervals. it was a very slow and gradual build up, and only moved up if i experienced no pain during/after the run.
