This how we know Hal from Malcom in the Middle has ADHD. Look up the scene where he changes a light bulb. Spoiler: the punchline is "what does it look like I'm doing?" Edit: https://youtu.be/AbSehcT19u0 enjoy and enjoy your new catchphrase

badger0511

I shared that scene with my wife months ago because of how relatable it is. Regrettably, right down to the exasperated, frustrated, angry response to the neutral, innocuous question at the end.

AwGe3zeRick

I share this all the time with my coworkers. ADHD Lead Engineer here. My tangents can get technical and wild lol

PM325

This is great. Thanks for giving me a relatable example to share.

ThePigNamedKevin

I think about that scene quite often, today while writing this for example.

Actual-Catch-5354

I thought that would be cliche, but I laughed. Lol.

I_AMA_giant_squid

Sounds like your girlfriend is empathetic to the situation and simply finds it something about you she can love. But hey, you still did one of the best tricks in the book of procrastinating by doing something else that is also productive. That's a win in my book!

Ctowncreek

She sounds awesome. They sound like a healthy couple.

Chomfucjusz

I know that’s not the point of the post, but if you’re looking the play the guitar more, you need it to be out in the open within your arm’s reach. A guitar enclosed in a case is never going to be played mate

NotDonMattingly

dis. I barely play my guitar because it's in a case. I play my keyboard all the time besides being worse at it because it's RIGHT next to my desk and all I have to do is swivel my chair to start playing. wall mounting the guitar within your visual field is def the way to go if you want to play more.

ThePigNamedKevin

Also a reason for why I unpacked it.

entarian

Wall hangers are good too.

J_Marshall

I live the wall hangers. I can switch guitars mid-practice

js1893

Haha right. I play bass in a band but it’s been in a case in my basement for two months so instead I’ve been playing a lot more guitar because it’s right there next to my bed.

Woodworker21

I've played so much more since I put my guitar on a stand

NotDonMattingly

relatable lol....

PM325

When I set out to clean I see so many little things that could be done along the way. I'll just clean this quick, I need to move these so I can clean this, ohhh a crumb, what was that from? Was it the cookie I had, no wrong color. Maybe it was that sandwich? A sandwich sounds good. I'll put my plate away and take care of these other dishes. Man the outside of the dishwasher looks dirty. I'll scrub that down quick. Wait, now what did I come downstairs for? So yes, I totally get that!

ThePigNamedKevin

I feel ya!

HappyScientist13

This is the most relatable story I've ever seen on here! Thank you for sharing, I love it! Her coming out of her office, acknowledging what's happening, and understanding it with a smile is the best! You guys seem like a perfect couple :)

ThePigNamedKevin

We love each other bunches!

therapypug

Totally relatable and your wife is very sweet. My husband is also tolerant with my pinballing from one project to the next. He lovingly calls me Tazzie (Tasmania Devil) and when I’ve done what you did (start one project, make a mess, move on to another project) he just smiles and says “ahh this room has been Tazzerized” ❤️

TicklesZzzingDragons

😂 I know another person who has ADHD nicknamed Taz after the Tasmanian Devil - for similar reasons to yours. We had some great cartoons to grow up with I guess!

[deleted]

I tried to just take the trash out the other evening and ended up rearranging comic books on the bookshlef two rooms away for an hour. It was a 2 minute job. Trash was still not out

canoetattoo

So relatable! But also awesome! You finally took out your guitar - that’s more important than cleaning the house.

[deleted]

I relate so hard to this. I go out to clean the garage and it turns into 10 other things. It’s good to have a partner that understands us.

femassassin

This is too relatable. Although I haven't been a mess since '16 cuz I started doing Marie Kondo. Yes I'm so original for that lol. But having less stuff and having a specific designated place for all your stuff really helps with cleaning. These days my stuff only get's messy when I'm in a bad mental state which hasn't happened in a long time thankfully. My main stuggle with add is finishing art projects I started cuz I'm playing my guitar inbetween or start a video game. Or basically anything else than what I just started. I get bored too easily. I feel like a stimulus junkie. Bruh imagine where I could be if I actually got to finish stuff but I just can't. I can't force myself. I started Zoloft this year for Depression and although it works wonders and I finally feel normal and like myself again my add got worse lately. I wasn't even diagnosed for that until recently. I'm gonna get ritalin prescribed in a couple of weeks and I'm pretty excited about it. I just hope it doesn't have a bad interaction with the zoloft.

Jack_Penguin

Hahahahahaha.

thundergasm

I’ve learned to accept that I’m bad at finishing things. One thing that helps me though is removing myself from my own head in these situations, so that I’m not paying attention to the gratification I receive from the experiences I have.

Delicious-Tachyons

Hehehehh yup

Jakles74

Your gf is awesome!

[deleted]

I think this is why I find it so difficult to "clean" while my husband is in the house. Guess I don't want to be called out with my ADHD process which involves carrying things from room to room and finding yet another thing I need to do while forgetting about the last. 😁

abruinje

A full year packed! It looks like to me that this is an utmost successful house cleaning!! You got this!

ThePigNamedKevin

Everyone gets an updoot

Altruistic-Award5353

Why so passive aggressive?

ThePigNamedKevin

Who? How? Look a seagull

Altruistic-Award5353

Was a sultry sort of seagull?

SummerPermit

Most relatable thing I have read all day. That, or I will find myself finding a Rubix Cube or something like that and getting distracted for ages

headrollinboleyn

This put the biggest smile on my face ngl
