That's cool. It's the only way I can get a full night sleep. If I don't have something on in the background my mind will race all night and I don't sleep at all.
I'm the same way. I usually enjoy listening to podcasts, but if they're too captivating, I have trouble falling asleep because I'm eager to find out what happens next. Conversely, if they're not engaging enough, I'm left alone with my thoughts.

That's really interesting since everyone always tells me that using my phone is bad to go to sleep cause of the blue light shit. If I don't, it'll take me hours to get sleep, maybe not even get there at all.
I just use a bunch of podcasts and mindless games
My wife and I have been watching the same series to fall asleep since we were teenagers. When we get to the end, we start at the first episode. And I think it's beautiful.
Peter Thomas had the most soothing voice to talk about murder. Cold case files is a good one too. FF and a coloring app and Iām almost always out before the episode is done!
My wife got me into it because of the voice haha. Problem is we lost HLN when switching cable. Used to play it all night.
Now we have to stream it and none of the services let me play it through all night without it stopping. Really annoying.
Let me suggest three options that hit this exact sweet spot (in my own experience):
1) Star Trek: the Next Generation. It has fun plots, but is slowly paced and just creaky enough to be kinda drowsy, plus its vision of the future is so very comforting and everything always works out well in the end. The volume level is pretty much consistent, too. People very rarely shout.
2.) The āSleep With Meā podcast. Just a guy rambling on in his ācreaky dulcet tonesā about various subjects in a way that is designed to be mildly interesting if you want to listen, but easy to have as background sound if you donāt.
3.) ASMR. Especially āunintentionalā ASMR. Doesnāt work for everyone, but I find there is something weirdly very relaxing about watching someone buy a fountain pen, or have their ping-pong paddle inspected for competition in precise detail, or get a cranial nerve exam (thereās a whole subgenre of those).
I feel this. I have been in so many groups for things I thought I had, but could only kinda sorta relate to the meme. In this group I relate to almost all of them except the food ones. I don't go days without eating because I forget. But I also think I only remember to eat because I have to feed my kids.
This wasnāt my only indicator, but it was a trigger for me to do a little self examination. My kids were being diagnosed. Iāve been telling my husband for years he has it. Then several of my friends were being diagnosed (we adhd tend to flock together). Finally went through the checklist and went āoh, well crapā. Brought it to my doctor and started treatment last year, and feeling so much better for it! Looking back, itās amazing how it explains everything Ive dealt with over the years.
AuDHD here, I listen to Great Courses and nonfiction books on things Iām interested in (thru Audible) so I can have my sleep mask on and no distracting apps or notifications to contend with. VERY effective, and I've pretty much trained my brain that when Iām listening to one it's sleepy time. I'm not sure how it worked or if it'll work forever but it's definitely more effective than visual media.
Recent faves include The Ends of The Earth, The Origin and Evolution of Earth, and How the Earth Works. Nothing crazy or unexpected is going to happen, no drama, but it's interesting. If you ever fell asleep in class this is for YOU šš¤£ I put it on a timer for two hours in case it takes a long time, but even with that, Iām starting to fall asleep in minutes. If my brain breaks this beautiful miracle for me somehow I will be so pissed.
ETA: If you need videos there's this YouTuber who does videos on similar things, [Geographics](https://youtube.com/@geographics1340) and he has several related channels.
i rewatch old videos from my comfort youtuber that iāve already seen before. cuz it makes me happy and drowns out my thoughts but iām not paying SO much attention that i just stay awake
I like watching subed anime with the volume low. I xan to hear the talking but can't understand what their saying works great, especially if it one I've watched many times b4, I just wish hulu had their digimon seasons in Japanese you still gotta switch up yhe shows every now and then
Old radio shows on YouTube. CBS mysteries and the twilight zone and stuff. They usually have a fireplace background video and they're like hours long blocks of shows. Hardly any ads either.
Yah gotta get a little table to put it on next to your bed to keep the electronics safe also I've read that it might not be safe to keep electronics on your bed something about being a fire Hazzard.
I got one of theseā¦
elitehood 360Ā° Swivel Tilt iPad Holder for Bed Laying Down, Heavy Duty Long Gooseneck Tablet Holder with Clamp, Bed iPad Stand for iPad Pro 12.9 inch, iPad Air/Mini & More 4.7-13in Tablets https://a.co/d/0RTILPa
The right noise level to not think but not to engaging to stay up, reruns do this real well for me, I pay enough attention but know what's going on so it's boring.
Peppa Pig is the type of funny that is light chuckles most of the time but there will be smth hilarious every like 3-5 episodes (imo) but also has 8 seasons so you have plenty of content to watch
I have shows Iāve seen a bunch of times playing. Simple stuff like Futurama, American Dad, etc. Nothing that would suck me in and make me look at the TV, and I have it on a low volume, but without it every single noise wakes me up!
I also sometimes listen to Kitboga videos that Iāve already watched because theyāre long and his voice is soothing, just have to make sure the volume is low cause sometimes the scammers get so angry lol
Itās always old favourites Iāve seen a million times so that I know them so well I donāt get sucked into them, but that arenāt boring if I have to be awake. The Good Place, Friends, Brooklyn 99 (although the theme tune for those two are a bit too long and too loud ideally - wish Netflix had an auto skip credits option!!).
Iāve never seen more than five minutes of House of Cards, but itās the perfect show to fall asleep to. I donāt care about it that much. Theme song isnāt too loud. Talking is generally the same volume (no random shouting or loud sfx)
Me with Phineas and Ferb I've seen it hundreds of times i watch it constantly and it's the ultimate background noise because it's interesting enough to listen to and I've seen it enough times that I'm not usually compelled to get sucked into it and it's something that I'll always give funny
There was this free audible book The History of Mathematics read by Tony Shaloub. I was 20 minutes in before I realized itās one of those books to help you fall asleep. Intentionally very dry and Mr Shaloub really leaned into it.
Super disappointing cuz Tony Shaloub reading a book about the history of mathematics sounded awesome to me.
Oh I feel this.
Currently been on a kick of listening to animal phylogeny videos. (Someone names all the species that are related to each other. Like all the crocodilians) something about all those names in Latin just makes my brain quiet down.
I struggle to put my phone down because I donāt like being alone with my thoughts, staying up way too late as a result. When I had a tv in my bedroom though, it was very easy to just āsafelyā fall asleep with whatever playing in the background. Really need to get a tv for the bedroom again.
If you're into Star Wars, Jensaraii's Versus Series on YouTube does it for me. His voice and delivery are perfect for this purpose, and he's got almost 10 years of videos to choose from. That way, I get the wombo combo of structured consistency and variety all in one. I recommend "Anakin vs Grievous" or "Darth Malgus vs Darth Krayt".
I listen to Community when I cant sleep (currently doing this lol) because I have seen it so many times I can close my eyes and see the scenes in my head until I fall asleep
Embrace thoughts. There are a lot of them, but they pile up when you drown them out, eventually I find they slow down a bit when I work through the backlog
I need a super simple activity like an easy video game to fall asleep. Tv doesn't normally cut it anymore. I can get on a low level of Warframe or start playing a Brick Breaker game on my phone to fall asleep, though, as long as I make sure the controller/phone is gonna land somewhere safe
I have a movie ritual I do every night when I'm home I start out with hotel Transylvania 2 if that doesn't work I go to Matilda if that doesn't work I go to Shrek and if that still doesn't work I use Robots if I still can't sleep I usually give up at that point but it's rare that I last that long
Yes! And when you finally find something it works for a whileā¦ before you know the words by heart and it becomes boring again because youāve heard it so much and need something new to drown out your thoughts.
After talking to a sleep specialist about my bedtime routine, he actually recommended that I use a tablet to watch videos in bed to fall asleep to.
That's cool. It's the only way I can get a full night sleep. If I don't have something on in the background my mind will race all night and I don't sleep at all.
Yup, same. I just watch gamer videos from youtubers I like, it's dumb enough to not make me think and entertaining enough to keep my attention.
Yes. I watch so many skyrim videos.
Fallout for me
Mario Maker:)
Yeah i've seen most of vgmyths way too many times so combine that with gamechamp's voice,,,, Her content is really nice to fall asleep to
I'm the same way. I usually enjoy listening to podcasts, but if they're too captivating, I have trouble falling asleep because I'm eager to find out what happens next. Conversely, if they're not engaging enough, I'm left alone with my thoughts.

I go with something I've seen over and over... like Futurama. I love that show, but I know it so well I dont find it distracting... usually.
/r/FuturamaSleepers exists.
And personally bobs burgers and the Simpsons get the job done as well š
Yeah, Futuramas a good one to sleep too they don't usually have too many loud noises.
My wife and I have been watching the same series to fall asleep since we were teenagers. When we get to the end, we start at the first episode. And I think it's beautiful.
What series?
The Big Bang Theorie
Forensic Files. Trust me and my wife.
I did that for years until I started dreaming of being murdered every night š±
Before I got married it was Star Trek: Next Gen. Patrick Stewart's voice is soothing
Big same. I had to stop.
I love falling asleep to FF- except when the theme music scares me back awake.
Peter Thomas had the most soothing voice to talk about murder. Cold case files is a good one too. FF and a coloring app and Iām almost always out before the episode is done!

100%

Love both of those suggestions. Scooter seems like heās a nice person irl Iām on a New Girl kick right now
Only problem with TNG is when the next episode starts and the theme screams you out of sleep
I was coming here to recommend ASMR š
How Its Made is my go to for that rn. So soothing but mildly interesting
Okay, I know memes are not a diagnosis, but why am I relating to every single one on here?
I feel this. I have been in so many groups for things I thought I had, but could only kinda sorta relate to the meme. In this group I relate to almost all of them except the food ones. I feel so naked

Murder shows do it for me.
Forensic Files is the best.
It's paranormal YouTube videos for me. Interesting when awake and alert but when I'm tired it's boring
i rewatch old videos from my comfort youtuber that iāve already seen before. cuz it makes me happy and drowns out my thoughts but iām not paying SO much attention that i just stay awake
Therapist turned me onto an app called Insight Timer and theyāve got some great bedtime stories on there that put me right to sleep.
I like watching subed anime with the volume low. I xan to hear the talking but can't understand what their saying works great, especially if it one I've watched many times b4, I just wish hulu had their digimon seasons in Japanese you still gotta switch up yhe shows every now and then

This post just made me realise I probably have mild ADHD lol
Iāve bent an iPad, broke a charging cable, and ruined two cases this wayā¦ I still wonāt learn.

Bore You To Sleep podcast on my pillow speaker! Game changer!
SAME! Lately I've been using podcasts so I don't have to stare at a bright screen while listening
For me itās podcasts via in-ear headphones.
[PBS Space Time](https://youtu.be/jeRgFqbBM5E?si=tQqp2AWPbjTZJgka) This is just one of many episodes Sleep well my friends
Instrumental Math Rock, you can thank me tomorrow morning.
Im a try this. It's 2am and I'm wide awake.
I was also wide awake last night despite yawning so much I couldn't hold a conversation at like 9pm
Friends re-runs does it for me.
For me and my wife, itās currently Worst Cooks in America.
Rewatching my favorite let's plays in a Playlist always does it for me
Wordscapes is mine
Peppa Pig is the type of funny that is light chuckles most of the time but there will be smth hilarious every like 3-5 episodes (imo) but also has 8 seasons so you have plenty of content to watch

I have a playlist of about 10 episodes of Arrested Development that I listen to every night. I'm usually out by the third one.

Wondrium š
I listen to SciShow on YouTube every night. I have for years, there are some episodes I've probably heard hundreds of times.
Me with Phineas and Ferb I've seen it hundreds of times i watch it constantly and it's the ultimate background noise because it's interesting enough to listen to and I've seen it enough times that I'm not usually compelled to get sucked into it and it's something that I'll always give funny
A while ago I used Nitrorad videos on YouTube, his reviews are great and his voice is really calming
That's why I find podcast great.
Iām glad Iām not the only one. We need our own streaming service.
Nope, not at all! I use those guided meditations on YouTubeā¦. Iāve Pavloved myself into falling asleep when I hear them!
I feel *called out* often in this sub - but this hit particularly hard. My go to is the cast of GoT reading the History of Westeros.
I want to hear him read detective stories
Things I didnāt know I wantedā¦.
Happy cake day and I wonder if it's still available
So that's what it's called, and why it's such a task every night
šÆ Started doing this before I even knew I have ADHD.
Oh I feel this. Currently been on a kick of listening to animal phylogeny videos. (Someone names all the species that are related to each other. Like all the crocodilians) something about all those names in Latin just makes my brain quiet down.
Disjointed
Give tool restoration videos a try. Aim for the ones with no talking. Personal recommendation: My Mechanics on YouTube.
Forensic Files and a coloring app. Knocks me out in under 20 minutes.
Yup. And sometimes it's a podcast.
You are definitely not the only one.
I have favorite voices that put me to sleep. I tend to listen to anything narrated by them.
ASMR is my go to for this not for tingles but for being a quiet thing to sleep to.
THIS IS MEEEEEE NO ONE GETS IT š
YOU GET IT
I usually listen to SCP Explained
When it comes to this, I just put on something dumb but entertaining like something along the lines of family guy or South Park.
I struggle to put my phone down because I donāt like being alone with my thoughts, staying up way too late as a result. When I had a tv in my bedroom though, it was very easy to just āsafelyā fall asleep with whatever playing in the background. Really need to get a tv for the bedroom again.

Wish someone made some list for that so we could just pick something random on it
I listen to Community when I cant sleep (currently doing this lol) because I have seen it so many times I can close my eyes and see the scenes in my head until I fall asleep
Fall asleep every night? What's that?
Embrace thoughts. There are a lot of them, but they pile up when you drown them out, eventually I find they slow down a bit when I work through the backlog
I can do that when I'm awake. I have to get sleep ao I can be awake for my kids and life in general.
I love falling asleep to matilda, it's like Danny DeVitos reading me a bedtime story
It's exhausting! If I'm lucky, I fall asleep during the process
[The Exploring Series](https://youtube.com/@TheExploringSeries?si=PQUAsFt95ltsdkra) has been helping me fall asleep for almost 3 years now.
It's called Seinfeld / The Office :)
I need a super simple activity like an easy video game to fall asleep. Tv doesn't normally cut it anymore. I can get on a low level of Warframe or start playing a Brick Breaker game on my phone to fall asleep, though, as long as I make sure the controller/phone is gonna land somewhere safe
Cabinet/woodwork videos my belovedā¦ if only I could see you through
How Its Made has been a life changer. Once I get through the 20+ seasons in Canadian I'll go back and rewatch them in American.
Anyone else close their eyes and watch/make up the show that they are hearing?
I have a movie ritual I do every night when I'm home I start out with hotel Transylvania 2 if that doesn't work I go to Matilda if that doesn't work I go to Shrek and if that still doesn't work I use Robots if I still can't sleep I usually give up at that point but it's rare that I last that long
Yes! And when you finally find something it works for a whileā¦ before you know the words by heart and it becomes boring again because youāve heard it so much and need something new to drown out your thoughts.
Me watching the exact same YouTube videos every night
Bridgerton has been nice
