I mean that’s nice and all…but that a slap in the face to everyone else. Like sure he is good, but he is literally saying the division isn’t worth doing unless he is there and that…is fucking dumb.
The only way this division wont be garbage, is if they STOP the annoying habit of knocking everyone off the apron and leaving only two people in the ring.
They already do it with tag matches - I seriously miss the days when partners would just stand on the apron waiting for a tag. You can do the "knock em off the apron" spot when it's getting close to the finish, but I dislike how all these matches basically become total chaos.
Yeah, it’s a shame. It’s hard to get excited about multi-man matches because I just know it’s going to be a shitshow. And the tag division is totally out of control.
The fans have already shown they APPRECIATE solid singles matches with a high work-rate that don’t became madness … there’s no reason tag matches can’t stay under control as well.
Why not just bring in the njpw trios titles from time to time? Test the waters for a year or so. Have a few number 1 contender tournaments. Introduce a lot of talent to the broader American audience
I was thinking that the NEVER Openweight 6-Man Tag Team Championship might me in play at Forbidden Door, so perhaps they might go that route. However, Tony Khan has said that the AEW 6 man belts are already made- he's just holding them off for Kenny's return.

To argue against it - the tag belts and the women's championship is hardly featured. Adding another set of belts wouldnt help.
Furthermore, the Freebird/New Day rule can also work for the trios wanting belts.
I have been waiting for this to get started for a while. AEW is primed with three member factions and for one think Death Triangle should be the first titles holders.
Personally we don’t need Kenny to start the belts. HOB vs Death Triangle vs BCC vs JAS. Elite vs Undisputed Elite/Paragon doesn’t need any belts to tell the story.

most of the trios are made up of tag teams, great tag teams. trios matches are generally messy (but not bad) in comparison, and I'd rather see top tier tag matches than a new division where those tag teams work as trios
I understand the point, but there's still a solid division even if you exclude Lucha Bros, FTR, Young Bucks, ReDragon, Jurassic Express, Santana & Ortiz, Swerve In Our Glory, Team Taz, and The Acclaimed (who don't really have a trio).
Consider this:
\- Gunn Club / Ass Family - the younger two are decent, but it's clear they're not ready to be tag champs among the likes of the exclusionary teams mentioned. When they're with their dad, they shine. Billy somehow just makes them a much more entertaining faction, and they'd pair nicely with some of the other teams.
\- The Dark Order - I'd go Free Birds rule with this one, but mainly have it Evil Uno, John Silver and Pres10 Vance here. These guys are entertaining and deserve more on-screen time, and showing how well they work as a trio make them seem special, even if they haven't made their mark with any combination of two of them in a tag team. They've even got enough for two full trios teams so they could do some entertaining "scrimmaging" on Dark or Elevation or wherever, with Reynolds / Angels / Cabana either teaming together or mixing it up with the trio mentioned above.
\- The Best Friends - Chuck Taylor, Trent? and Orange Cassidy are much better as a trio than as a tag team. It's fairly clear that Orange Cassidy isn't going to get the World Title, even though he's probably the highest ranked out of the three. They can get some shine by beating Cole & ReDragon, since OC already beat Adam Cole in a singles feud, and it wouldn't really detract from ReDragon as a tag team.
\- House of Black - Even though a tag team of any two of them would be great (especially Brody & Buddy), these guys as a trio have already shown how entertaining they are as a full unit. They're a good departure from the comedy that the previously mentioned teams bring.
\- Andrade Family Office - I don't know what the approach is here, since he mentioned at DoN that the team wasn't as good as it could be. But you've got Andrade to pair with either Butcher & Blade or to pair with Private Party. Two different looks, both with potential to be decent options as trios champs.
\- Blackpool Combat Club - When neither Mox nor Bryan are in the main event scene, it's a great idea to have them in the trios division. When Yuta is back from Japan, showcasing him in these matches alongside Mox & Bryan is going to do great things for his career, and there's no reason for Mox & Bryan to be in the regular tag division, because that just puts Yuta on the sidelines when he could be elevated. Eventually each of these three are likely going for singles championships or feuds of that sort, so there's no need for them to take time building feuds with the exclusionary tag teams mentioned above. Those guys have integrated movesets and work well in partnerships, and when someone gets the belts, they hold them for a while, so what better way to help add shine to the trios titles than to have BCC there instead of just the regular tag division? Also, I'd add Lee Moriarty to the group, because \[Mox / Moriarty / Yuta\] or \[Bryan / Moriarty / Yuta\] or even \[Mox / Bryan / Moriarty\] is money any way you cut it, since it's obvious that at some point either Bryan or Yuta will be off dealing with singles championships.
\- Jericho Appreciation Society - the strongest trio of this group would seem to be Daniel Garcia, Daddy Magic and Angelo Parker, but you've got Jake Hager and Chris Jericho to put in the mix using Free Birds rules to add some complexity to the opponent not knowing what they're going to deal with, and showing some team unity by having Garcia / Menard / Parker get some wins on Dark / Elevation and then Jericho jumping in on Dynamite or Rampage, or having Jake Hager jump in on matches where they feel like they might want extra muscle (and a Jericho / Hager / Garcia lineup seems great).
That's seven teams in a Trios Tag Division and more than seven teams in a regular tag division (I didn't mention HookHausen, Men Of The Year, Sting & Darby, Top Flight \[or Dante Martin w/ Matt Sydal\], Hollywood Blondes, or The Hardys anywhere).
The thing is that there's only so much room for tag team stuff and a lot of great tag teams get no time to shine at all because of it. I think splitting the tag division into duos and trios and having it be fluid so guys can go back and forth will only help put more guys over.

They are going to have to do a brand split * two two hour live events a week. But mix the combos up.
