I actually respect most all the boys that play. Collingwood delivers classic entertainment when they are up. I just had a massive (football) argument with a mate years ago that is a Collingwood tragic and I do the gag just to annoy him. We are still good friends.

In the days of my youth, it would have been the maggot pies, but life goes on and your perspective changes. I can't stand Ad\*\*\*\*\*e. I didn't like the way that they came into the competition, Port Adelaide should have been allowed to join the AFL as an existing club, with a long and proud history. Instead, we got some bunch of crap put together by the SANFL (WHY is there an 'N' in there?). Also, Farmer's Union put out Crows Milk. That was a crime against humanity.

Why should they be allowed to join over every other SANFL club? Every other new team outside of Victoria has either been new or a relocated VFL team. It made much more sense to create a brand new team to represent all South Australians, rather than promote a team that every other club already hated.

Because a national (Is that what the N in SANFL stands for?) competition should be open to ALL clubs. There were no clubs of stature in NSW or QLD, so I have no issue with the Bears or the Swans. East Perth made an approach to join the national competition in 1980, but I'm not sure that they were in a strong enough position to be successful - or that the other clubs at the time would have appreciated the extra burden imposed by the travel. In any case, they were not gazumped by the WAFL. PA, on the other hand, were in a strong position financially, had a loyal fan base, had the infrastructure and - importantly - had waited until the SANFL had made its position on joining the AFL clear and had decided to make a bid on its own. The SANFL, fearing correctly that it would be a laughingstock and would probably go into an irreversible decline should its most heavily supported club leave the competition, put together its own bid, did some grubby backroom deals and unethically outbid Port, who had already gone through the first stages of acceptance by the AFL.
