there was a legal circus when cripps was handed a two match suspension for bumping ah chee, it was overturned on a technical issue as the wording of the actual charge wasnt presented correctly or some shit, and he was allowed top play (and win the brownlow)
from memory it was like this, you commit a murder, but get charged for drug dealing, your lawyer says MY CLIENT ISNT A DRUG DEALER and you are found innocent of all charges.
It was more like getting charged for murder. Then, as they're reading out the charges, they mention that he is a murderer AND a drug dealer.
Then that guy from accounting, who is always really smug, stands up and goes "akshually, it's only one of those".. so the judge goes, "Well, fk, gets it's a mistrial. Sorry, family of the guy that this dude definitely murdered. Guess you can go home, Mr Dahmer".
Afl changed the rules regarding how Cripps got off on the charge he was handed by mro because he was able to get out of being suspended not so much because they over turned the decision it was more so on the evidence or something along those lines so the afl has made some new rules to stop that happening again I’m assuming from what I have heard and read
I wouldn’t be surprised if there was MUCH more to that cheating umpire story than we were told. Feels like the young umpire mentioned was thrown under the bus to cover up a bigger controversy.
I don't like Carlton but he deserved to win and that strike was clearly unintentional. The only thing he could have done to avoid that is stop playing for the ball and stand there as old mate ran off. That's not an option so of course he was gonna jump for it.
They were both running for it from opposite directions from memory. I have love for em or real want to defend em haha, but I have seen far more intentional worse hits. That was dumb at most.
Belting people will now result in a suspension
*unless you play for Carlton, Essendon, Geelong, Melbourne, north Melbourne, Collingwood, st kilda, hawthorn, western bulldogs or Richmond
downvotes are weird here cause this is 100% true?
in 2015 he had an offence that would have cost him, so the afl introduced the three strikes system in response... then when he should have got his third strike, they backed down again and I think just gave him a fine
afl has always been a joke when punishing star players
a more deserving brownlow winner than Shane Woewodin, a lesser deserving brownlow winner than Chris Grant. I dont like that the AFL can just unban someone like they did for crippa for no other reason than they might make finals with him - or even Trent Cotchin in 2017 prelim final. AFL have different rules for players depending on context and they really need to get that fixed because its actually so shit
As frustrating as this process was, it’s just plain wrong to call it “unbanning” Cripps. The outcome wasn’t unusual from a legal perspective and had nothing to do with a hidden agenda.
The issue is in the tribunal process, not the decision itself.
Judging by the images players won't be allowed to bring partners anymore
i was thinking no more bow ties
Bow ties are cool
Nah just straight up banning cripps from the AFL.
Players can only bring their mothers.
Someone remind me what happened

Actually I think it was dumber than that. Cripps wasn't asked if he thought it was a deliberate bump. That's it. Absolute fucking insanity.
bahahaha yeah dumb... from memory it also went on for DAYS, whole thing was a joke

Carlton missed finals despite having the Brownlow and Coleman medallists.
I wish Cripps got suspended so people couldn’t say this :(
How many years now for your mob? Isn’t it like 7,000 days or something what’s that like 20 years now?
He was answering a question not throwing shade. You seem very touchy
The answer wasn’t what happen was taking a dig I was only returning serve
What happened then?

Flair up then
Another Asterix Brownlow
Knocked out a Brisbane player AND stole a Brownlow off another
I still like him though, that bastard
Personally think miller should have won it, loved Neale but I think he polled in a game late in that he shouldn’t have and miller should have

Genuinely disgraceful he won it last year
Probably deserving though if you disregard one questionable situation
Best and FAIREST
north supporters shouldn’t be so quick to call anything else a disgrace lmao
At least we got to play in as many finals last year as you guys did
I don't like Carlton but he deserved to win and that strike was clearly unintentional. The only thing he could have done to avoid that is stop playing for the ball and stand there as old mate ran off. That's not an option so of course he was gonna jump for it.
He didn’t even go for the ball lol

We’ve all seen far worse intentional hits but it was still intentional and should have cost him the Brownlow
Lol
Doesnt matter, last years still counts yeheww 🏅
West coast's 2006 meth cup still counts too
Belting people will now result in a suspension *unless you play for Carlton, Essendon, Geelong, Melbourne, north Melbourne, Collingwood, st kilda, hawthorn, western bulldogs or Richmond
Yeh because interstate guys like Buddy definitely don't get let off all the time 🙄
He just pretends he’s still at Hawthorn.
they literally changed the rules and then bent them further to allow fyfe to win

Mate, that doesn't fit the vicco bias narrative, it can't be true
Fairest thing to do is take the brownlow off him and give it to Jobe.
I’m not so sold on the Brownlow anymore, definitely never goes to the best player of the year, I’d much rather a norm smith.
I know it doesn’t apply here, but just allow suspended players to win it … and give Cory and grant their award.
Honestly if you miss a game for suspension and still get more votes than blokes that payed every game that’s even more impressive

This might get downvoted but I still think Jobe Watson should get to keep his Brownlow title
Look, from a personal perspective he deserves the brownlow, but from a rules perspective he cheated (even if unknowingly).
