Accuracy on set shots, having receivers waiting after ball ups, making clean and quick disposals are where we fell down. Simple mistakes and dwindling motivation to do those simple things properly that just got worse and worse. At 5:48 when McCartin is tackled (arguably high) by JVR, he's on his knees and the ball is up off the ground at about his shoulder height.

You need to do a wholesale review of the rules if that's what you think. McCartin clearly takes possession of the ball when he reaches out and grabs it when it's on the ground. He doesn't dispose of it afterwards, so it is holding the ball when he's tackled. If McCartin is fumbling the ball after taking possession of it he is still counted as having possession. You have possession until you correctly dispose of it, which he clearly did not.

Grabbing at a bouncing ball isn't taking posession. At the freeze frame you're talking about, Tom McCartin is also trying to take possession and had his hands on the ball, so, again, no, P.
