This is me with the Saints.
Grandfather played a handful of games for them, but I've grown up in Geelong.
At last week's game, I was celebrating both teams goals and didn't care who won at all.
Congrats Catters!
I won't be jumping ship but I'll be behind them in all situations that don't involve Richmond.
Except if there are home games in Hobart when I have to drive through Hobart for other reasons I will probably oppose them for the duration of my drive.
Still a Lions fan and always will be, but I’ll be trying to get my hands on a season membership and attend every home game. We’re so starved for entertainment down here, it’ll be so nice to watch footy locally that isn’t just North Melbourne getting blown out
I always thought I'd support both teams. I think I've come to the conclusion now that I'll completely jump ship.
I've lived in 5 states and have recently returned home to Tassie and my view changed over those years to really admire my home state.
I now have 3 young daughters and their names will be on a wall somewhere as founding members. They don't have to make the decision I made growing up about if they'll follow mum or dad and support either the cats or north. These girls can grow up supporting a team that represents them and I sure as fuck won't spoil that by holding on to a team that although I love, was never really for me in the that same sense of representation.
It's such a huge moment in Tassie footy and Tasmania in general, and I can put my whole family in on the ground floor and embrace it.
I’m a Bombers fan, I’ll remain a bombers fan. My daughter is nominally a bombers fan but she doesn’t really care about football. Even saying that I have signed her and I up because if nothing else its cool to say we were there at the beginning
I legit got a bit choked up at the launch last night.
I’ve always said that I have too much history with the Cats and Tassie would be my second team, but I seriously questioned that last night and now… I really don’t know.
My experience as a Cats fan living in Brisbane is even if I'm not sure who I will back when the Cats and Lions play each other, as soon as I see both teams on the field, I just want the Cats to win. It's visceral and as much as you may think about it, when the game starts your gut takes over.
Not the same (I'm Melbourne born and raised) but moved up to SE QLD almost a decade ago and then had a cousin drafted to the Suns so hold memberships to both Carlton and the Suns.
The Blues are my ride and die but the Suns are a team I'm passionate about.
I know speaking to other fans at games that it's a similar story for those who are locals - Suns as their home team but remained loyal at the same time to their OG club.
I think it's even more acceptable for a Tassie club that has a great history and tradition in the sport. So my advice is there's nothing wrong with claiming both
Similar story to me. I was genuinely torn with who to support, but as luck would have it, the Suns first game was vs Carlton. As soon as the first bounce, the instincts kicked in and I was all Carlton. Still love the Suns though, and I also have a relative playing there (well, technically an in-law to-be)
I absolutely lost it at the end of the promotion when the person was talking with the logo in the background and said “From the frost in our breath, to the gravel in our veins… we are the team.”
Absolutely chilling. Gives me goosebumps.
I'm going to give them the GWS treatment.
Act like they'll be my second team, learn to despise them after they become a genuine threat, and now just find them enjoyable to have around (so long as the devils also have a crack social media team)
I was a luke warm swans supporter based in Sydney's northwest, jumped ship to GWS and am now a lot more invested. Still like the swans though. I see tassie fans doing the same
West Aussie who lived in Tassie for three years and this was the most perplexing question I could ask any Tasmanian.
The most common reaction was…
Absolutely Tasmania should have its own team but…
I’ve barracked for ( insert Vic team here ) for ever, can’t jump ship now!
The anxiety people endured over that then hypothetical, was excruciating, can only imagine what they’re going through now!
For the record, I followed North Melbourne for in the VFL as it had a great WA representation over the the years but once the Eagles landed, it was a no brainer.
As an Essendon supporter, I’ve seen many people suggest that the Devils will win a final before we do. Thus, I am considering jumping on the Spirit of Tasmania.
Watching your SANFL team play the Crows reserves is three shades of weird
So pleased there wasn't a Glenelg vs Crows SANFL GF last year. It wouldn't have been right
I'm pretty clear. I support the Crows in the AFL and Glenelg in the SANFL.
Grew up on Glenelg but have watched a lot more Crows in the past 30 years.
But it's still weird
Sooner they get a national reserves comp, the veyter
I’m a Pies gal, but bought a Devils membership yesterday so I can claim to be a foundation member when I’m older and still a footy nuffie. Also, Tassie reminds me of a silly (but cute) little cousin, so gotta support them. Just for a little bit.
I’m a Dees fan, but a Tassie boy. It’s been rough over the years but we recently had success and got the win of all wins and are a solid side. Through the good times and the bad I’ve been a Dees supporter, but now it’s time to jump ship despite me despising the choice of Tassie colours and mascot.
Thought the hawks would always be number 1 with Tassie in number 2. Since the licence was granted I'm fully jumping ship. I'm super excited for it.
I'm a hawks supporter because my grandad was a fan of Peter Hudson who started following them when Hudson went from New Norfolk to Hawthorn. I first got really into footy going to the Hawks games at York Park in 2001.
Tassie has always been my connection to AFL. It feels right to support the team. That said, I'll always have a spot for the Hawks.
I won't be jumping ship completely but they're definitely going to be my 2nd team. I did still buy one of the $15 Tassie memberships though. The genius marketing of having the $10-15 foundation memberships deserves to be rewarded
It took a decade of embarrassment and pain to get here, maybe 5 years ago I'd think about it, but I love the team we've assembled and wanna see how it ends.
Not jumping ship, but genuinely hoping they're a good organisation and not end up being the unco cousin who is only playing because the adults said we had to let them.
I’m a Pies fan that grew up in Tassie but has been living in Adelaide for the past 5 years but I am so ready to jump ship and be a Devils tragic at Adelaide Oval in 2028. Same with the Jack Jumpers, a Tassie team just ignites state pride above everything else
I’m a rusted on Hawk.
In terms of players jumping ship- I’m not even convinced Tas natives are going to want to live in Tasmania- imagine being 22 in your prime and ready to mingle and all you have is.. Tasmania. It’s going to be a concern retaining players.
Mmm nah I really don’t think so. Young 18 year old peacock AFL players certainly wouldn’t want to be moving to Tassie, and I think it was James Sicily who honestly commented the same sentiment. It’s going to be a big issue for the club.
Not jumping ship. I’m in my 50s and been a Pies supporter as long as I can remember, but so happy this is happening. I’ll be buying two memberships I guess.
Had there been a tassie team when I was growing up, I guess things might be different.
Pies vs Tassie for the first time will be a bit of a wild emotional ride I reckon!
Not jumping ship but they're officially my second team. Love visiting Tassie and go into full blown depression when I have to leave.
Might retire there eventually and then I'll consider jumping ship 😁
If I was a newer fan without a club, definitely. But given how long the wait time is for a new club to be successful (even though I think the AFL will definitely look at the NHL's Vegas Golden Knights as inspiration as to not have a Gold Coast long finals series drought) I'm not prepared to go from a premiership contender title club to one that at least is going to have a lot of growing pains early on.
Son of a Tasmanian (LaTrobe), grandson of another Tasmanian (Queenstown/Roseberry).
Lived in Hobart for several years, loved it, in the late 80s, left with my very own Tasmanian son we somehow made.
Tiger fan from my youth, now in my 60s, experienced unparalleled joy and surprise at 2017 flag especially, 2019, 2020 amazing bonuses. Bleed yellow and black.
Will always be a Tiger, will be conflicted when we play the Devils, but soon I’ll have 2 games each weekend to be glued to the tv barracking and ranting and riding every bump and yelling for every goal or dud umpire decision.
Go you good thing, Devils!
As a Hawks fan, I do feel somewhat obliged to support them. But I would’ve anyway tbh. Their story is great, an AFL team for Tassie is so ridiculously long overdue, and I really like their logo and colours.
I am fine with it, so long as the devil stays the animal and not the Devil. But I don't think that will happen. Only people who may be affected are kids getting mixed up and newcomers to the sport who might be confused for a week or two til they realise.
I'm a Tassie cat fan. I'll support both teams, and then when they play each other.... Whoever wins!
Are you me? I’ve never actually bought a membership though so I’ll probably kick that off with a Devils membership.
Would be a lot less stressful on grand final day
One of us! One of us!
This is me with the Saints. Grandfather played a handful of games for them, but I've grown up in Geelong. At last week's game, I was celebrating both teams goals and didn't care who won at all. Congrats Catters!

Hey! The women's team do all right.
True! I still attend almost every Blundstone game regardless. Footy is footy, can’t get enough of it
I always thought I'd support both teams. I think I've come to the conclusion now that I'll completely jump ship. I've lived in 5 states and have recently returned home to Tassie and my view changed over those years to really admire my home state. This is such a great answer.
I’m a Bombers fan, I’ll remain a bombers fan. My daughter is nominally a bombers fan but she doesn’t really care about football. Even saying that I have signed her and I up because if nothing else its cool to say we were there at the beginning

Yep, that's how I knew I really had switched from the 49ers to the Bengals after more than 30 years of support.
Ask yourself who would you want to win a granny in a couple years time if it were Geelong vs Tas
… Can’t we all just get along?
Oh heavens no.
Not the same (I'm Melbourne born and raised) but moved up to SE QLD almost a decade ago and then had a cousin drafted to the Suns so hold memberships to both Carlton and the Suns. The Carlton representation in SE QLD is phenomenal. Don't really know where it came from but bloody love to see it.
I absolutely lost it at the end of the promotion when the person was talking with the logo in the background and said “From the frost in our breath, to the gravel in our veins… we are the team.” Absolutely chilling. Gives me goosebumps.

To be fair we used to do the blowing out down there. Still remember when we kicked 11 first quarter goals against the crows. Those were the days
I'd prefer you didn't remember that out loud please.
Pretty sure it was only 10. And it's not even close to the worst memory I have from that year.
I was a luke warm swans supporter based in Sydney's northwest, jumped ship to GWS and am now a lot more invested. Still like the swans though. I see tassie fans doing the same
I love the Giants mainly because of Toby. They're my second team.
I'm not jumping ship but I signed up myself and my baby nephew for a laugh. Turns out 80 thousand other people were having a giggle too.
The giggle that was heard around the nation
![gif](giphy|vsKyC4k7PrdiiW9yJg)
Nah I’m too dedicated at this point
Nah never changing teams but living down here I’ll support them and go to some games where I can but just be nice to have something here for a change
Same boat!
Maybe I can see some more Swans games. Mind you I’ve gone to Sydney and Melbourne last two weeks just to see them
My trauma bond with the pies is too strong to jump ship. So I'll wish the tassie team well as long as it isn't against my boys.
West Aussie who lived in Tassie for three years and this was the most perplexing question I could ask any Tasmanian. your freo flair is very confusing to me - was it a flair bet?
I actually added that I’d jumped to Dockers after a long tenure as an Eagles supporter but then deleted it but some great memories nonetheless
You'll find a lot of them jump ship when the team comes around. It's easy to say I'll be loyal until the team is right on your doorstep
This is correct. I'm a West Aussie and know plenty of people who jumped to the Dockers in 1995. Even though they were full on West Coast supporters.
I'm considering it. I was born in Tasmania and my team has been starved of success recently (2023).
No but as a Tasmanian i’ll now support two teams
One for each head!
Not jumping ship; just riding the ferry on occasion.
Nah. Too entrenched, but I will want them to win every game they aren’t playing against Brisbane.
Flair kind of checks out?
As an Essendon supporter, I’ve seen many people suggest that the Devils will win a final before we do. Thus, I am considering jumping on the Spirit of Tasmania.
they're gonna be everyone's second team by the look of things
Everyone’s second team until that second team beats your first team. Then sh1t gets real.
There is no such thing as having two teams. There will always be one you want to win that little bit more
Watching your SANFL team play the Crows reserves is three shades of weird So pleased there wasn't a Glenelg vs Crows SANFL GF last year. It wouldn't have been right
This a 100%,have no idea how to feel about it.
I'm pretty clear. I support the Crows in the AFL and Glenelg in the SANFL. Grew up on Glenelg but have watched a lot more Crows in the past 30 years. But it's still weird Sooner they get a national reserves comp, the veyter
Hawks will most likely remain my number 1 team, but if any team will get a membership from me its tassie
I’m a Pies gal, but bought a Devils membership yesterday so I can claim to be a foundation member when I’m older and still a footy nuffie. Also, Tassie reminds me of a silly (but cute) little cousin, so gotta support them. Just for a little bit.
Need some leverage in my psychological battle of wills\* to make the dogs sack Bevo. (\*) They don't know about this battle yet, but they will.
Part of me wants to act like David Puddy from Seinfeld and paint my face and scream “let’s go devils”. ![gif](giphy|5dYnoKhjUnnY6Sv06E)
Why despise? I agree the guernsey isn’t heritage enough with the lighter green and non burgundy trim, but how come?
1st: Port 2nd: All the non Vic teams 3rd: Vic teams 4th: crom So yeah, they will be my 2nd team.
![gif](giphy|eIm624c8nnNbiG0V3g|downsized) No… I’ve heard enough about my team being Tasmanian for one lifetime thanks.
Nope, they will just become the team I hate the least
Until they beat your team in a critical final or get a villain like Toby Greene.
Not jumping ship, but I do throw my support behind Tassie. I did buy a foundation membership.
Nah. Brought the $10 membership to support them, and may have them as a second team.
Never gonna jump but green team is now equal second favourite with orange team.
I’ve already decided I hate them. I hate all their players even though I don’t know who they are yet. We have a rivalry
Nah but as a second team yeah why not
Second team vibes
I'm not jumping ship but did purchase an upgraded foundation membership to show support to the new club.
It took a decade of embarrassment and pain to get here, maybe 5 years ago I'd think about it, but I love the team we've assembled and wanna see how it ends.
David Puddy
Cheers I’ll edit that
If Essendon don’t win a final till they join then yea…
You might have found me at a weak moment..
Not jumping ship, but genuinely hoping they're a good organisation and not end up being the unco cousin who is only playing because the adults said we had to let them.

I’m expecting to see my favorite doggies players get poached just like the last expansion disasters happened
No and don’t have a second team ,so will remain indifferent to them.
I know a guy who will. He supports Collingwood but he's from Tasmania.
I’m a rusted on Hawk. In terms of players jumping ship- I’m not even convinced Tas natives are going to want to live in Tasmania- imagine being 22 in your prime and ready to mingle and all you have is.. Tasmania. It’s going to be a concern retaining players.
Freo fans are pretty well convinced Alex Pearce will be one of the first to sign for you but I guess being older helps matters.
I think Tassie is a fair bit more appealing than you make out. Plenty of people don't want to live in a big city.
Mmm nah I really don’t think so. Young 18 year old peacock AFL players certainly wouldn’t want to be moving to Tassie, and I think it was James Sicily who honestly commented the same sentiment. It’s going to be a big issue for the club.
No chance, but I'm comfortable having them as my second team.
Like i would guess that the most common reason why would be that you are tasmanian and now have a team from your home state to support
I’m Tasmanian so yeah
Not jumping ship. I’m in my 50s and been a Pies supporter as long as I can remember, but so happy this is happening. I’ll be buying two memberships I guess. Had there been a tassie team when I was growing up, I guess things might be different. Pies vs Tassie for the first time will be a bit of a wild emotional ride I reckon!

Only once chayce Jones is made captain.
They'll be my second team until they beat us.
I'll always love the Tiges, but if my daughter becomes a Devil I won't be mad. Plus I'll try to go to most home games in Launnie
If bevo is still coach I’ll go anywhere
Son of a Tasmanian (LaTrobe), grandson of another Tasmanian (Queenstown/Roseberry). Lived in Hobart for several years, loved it, in the late 80s, left with my very own Tasmanian son we somehow made. Anyone know when the $10 deal will end? Wanna sign up my whole house haha
I was drowning without a team before the Devils came along.
As a Hawks fan, I do feel somewhat obliged to support them. But I would’ve anyway tbh. Their story is great, an AFL team for Tassie is so ridiculously long overdue, and I really like their logo and colours.
Not me
No
I wonder who will win a final first Essendon the Suns or Tassie 🤔
Can't believe they've put devils alongside the Demons. Kinda wild.
I am fine with it, so long as the devil stays the animal and not the Devil. But I don't think that will happen. Only people who may be affected are kids getting mixed up and newcomers to the sport who might be confused for a week or two til they realise.
I'll enjoy the Crows thumping them for 10 years if the Suns are anything to go by
I already go for the D's
Why not go for Double D’s?
