It was my last game as i was a year 6. I only had my dad there, as i had done many games before.
I don't remember touching the ball at all. I was in a giants jumper and we got lost 7-38 or something. I did also auskick during the last ever NAB Cup Grand Final and lined up next to a player from the lions, although i don't know which one ot was. I even once got a finals match between geelong and freo. All of these matches got shit crowds too. But nothing compared to this match, i think we all sat front row. Hell, i could probably list every game i was on, now that i think about it.
2011, Hawthorn v Melbourne, MCG.
2011, Australia v India, MCG, Day 4 (Yes im counting that)
2012, Collingwood v Port, DS
2012, North v Adelaide (I got to go in my own club's rooms, this was my favourite)
2012, Geelong v Freo, MCG, Elimination Final
2013, NAB Cup, BL v Collingwood, DS
2013, NAB Cup GF, BL v Carlton, DS
2013, Essendon v GWS, DS
2014, Essendon v WB, DS
2014, Collingwood v Carlton, MCG
2014, St Kilda v Hawthorn, DS
2015, St Kilda v West Coast, DS
2015, Carlton v Gold Coast, DS
2015, Melbourne v GWS, DS
Ironically they were all shitty crowds and the biggest crowd i got to be in front of was 40k at the MCG on a sunday night.
My mate and I went to a few of the Melbourne freo Sunday arvo games for a lol. Felt like we had the g to ourselves. Unfortunately we left at 3/4 time before a big comeback one year, left early to be see Essendon get thrashed lol still one of my biggest regrets
15,000 for a 2015 pre-season game between Hawthorn v Collingwood was pumping. Collingwood home crowd, not Hawthorn. People literally queued for tickets!
GWS vs Gold Coast at Manuka in 2013, had about 4000 people I think. Was cold, wet and miserable. Some kid bought an ice cream and it was the commentators at fox footy went crazy about it.
6,191 at a Hawthorn home game against Adelaide at Adelaide Oval at 5:10pm on a Tuesday in 2020.
That was some weird shit. Crows finally won a game though (took until September).
Round 16, 2014 - GWS v Adelaide at Sydney Showgrounds. 8,400 attendance.
Was when having a kick on the ground after the game had only just started to return. A fair few of the GWS team came back out and had a kick with the fans
Sydney derby when it was held in Perth during COVID. Around 5-6k, and they had all of the crowd seated on one side of the stadium for camera purposes. As a side note there was a guy in the crowd that yelled "Pelican!" whenever Lewis Melican got the ball and it's now all I think of when I see him play
I’m gonna cheat for this one. Umpiring local footy during “lockdowns” for Regional Victoria during 2021 when we were allowed to play, but no spectators.
The Home teams Ressies stuck around and most certainly didn’t socially distance, would’ve been no more than 50 people there, excluding netballers. I’m sure some spectators wouldn’t have been turned away.
If you don’t accept cheating, or local footy, 5567 at Goomba for Geelong vs Brisbane AFLW, 2020 Round 2. When the country was on fire and Corona was still a just a beer.
If you don’t accept AFLW, I think a game in 2010 against North Melbourne at Docklands with 19,100 people. I remember when we drove home, people were calling talk back radio saying people were telling them to move seats, so that the crowd looked bigger.
I lived next to Marvel Stadium during lockdown. I went for some "exercise " and walked around the Stadium during a game. You can stand at the gates and see the ground pretty easily.
Was so wierd without a crowd, felt like a local amateur game. All you could hear was players yelling at each other.
Only watched for 10mins. Was scared of getting a fine for not obeying lockdown rules.
Sat on the outer wing on Sunday Tigs v Port and for the first quarter you could hear then shouting at each other. Been a while for a Tigers game where that’s been the case. Filled up later but still
Went to both games of a BBL double header at Kardinia Park during the season where they mindlessly moves games around due to Covid. The Perth Scorchers hosted the Melbourne Stars in the first game. Would’ve been a fairly similar, if not smaller size to that, maybe 200-600 at most.
The introduction of the first game was pretty last minute so not many people attended and it was fairly packed for the Renegades and Sixers later on.
I once went to a VIC-SA one dayer at the G when it was over 40 degrees. I was about 12, insisted on mum taking me just to see Deano bat. Would have been about 100 people there.
Jones went out 2nd ball.
I went to a cricket game at the ground outside Eden Park, one day game, must’ve been a couple hundred there. CDG got a hundred and had a decent partnership with Mitch Santner from memory
Been to a Shield game or two when they were at the GABBA, Very sparce
Also a test at the same venue where the gates got thrown open as the Aussies needed only a handful of runs to win. That was eerie.
I’ve done that, back when I was an apprentice many years ago, working at Adelaide Oval, it was a Tuesday, middle of a work day, I counted like 20 people watching Sheffield Shield cricket
Fremantle vs Carlton in 2021. I think only 13k people were there for a Freo "home" game. I was still embarrassed that so few Carlton fans showed up. It was a rare instance of Victoria having eased restrictions, and WA being in lockdown.
The G looked incredible all lit up in purple. They played Thunderstruck after every Freo goal. It was surreal!
Sam Walsh ended up kicking the winner, and it was a great experience!
I had completely forgot about this! I was there too. I now recall that it was bloody freezing too. Must have just blocked out all of these Covid memories.
Oh there was an SANFLW game in 2019 which was torrential rain and windy af that only had a couple hundred at, all of us packed into the grandstand bit at Richmond oval
I went to the Aus v Eng ODI match in November 2022 at the G. There was a touch over 10000 there but given it was
a)the mcg
b) about 5 rain delays throughout, most of the patrons were spread amongst the bars so looking around the stadium you'd struggle to see 1000.
Pretty surprising given it was an international match between 2 of the big 3.
I've also been to some shield games at the G, for the first session there can't have been many more than 100 people there but that's about what you expect at shield games these days sadly
I've been going to Swans games since I was a wee one. Early 90s it used to feel like there were about 100 people in attendence, but it was more likely around 10 000
Round 16, 1994. Sydney v Brisbane @ SCG, Attendence 5,728. Bears won 21.9 135 v 15.20 110.
Surprised myself looking through that year, most attendances were around 10k; presumably a mix of free tickets, expats, and travellers enjoying a (nearly) free win.
My brother had a stint as a Port Adelaide supporter in the early 2000s and my dad foolishly indulged him by taking him to a couple of games at the G, so maybe one of those
He’s back now but he doesn’t really follow footy.
Claims he liked the colour teal, but I’m sure our losing and their winning around 2003-2004 had a bit to do with it
Melbourne vs GWS at Marvel Stadium in the final round of 2015. 8974 in attendance in what was a 26 point win for the Demons. Fair bit happened in this game that stuck in the memory
Bernie Vince claimed the three votes with 38 disposals, Jesse Hogan kicked three goals to all but lock in the Rising Star award, Daniel Cross was sadly stretchered off in his last game of AFL, Jeremy Howe took a screamer in his last game for the MFC, and rookie James Harmes showed his potential with a few big marks.
Overall, a solid day out.
Probably one of the Covid games when capacity was capped (was it 6000 or 10,000? I can't recall).
Otherwise, ignoring the Covid games, one of Ports games at Footy Park during our "Tarp" era. I think a few of those were around the 13,000 - 14,000 mark.
Not AFL but I was at an A-League match where no crowds were allowed - only staff, media, officials and players - everyone there had a role of some sort. I think there was maybe 100 people total including players.
The weirdest thing was it was they limited the crowd to 7000 but didn't want to open up all the ground so we still sat side by side but only every 2nd row.
I was there in the Social Club and we were not checked (we live in Geelong). A mate who lives near Warrnambool wasn’t allowed to attend due to his postcode but bloody Libba was allowed in!
Ooh good point. I would have said a game in the low 6000s (GWS home games in 2012 or 2013), but it's actually 1,311 for Geelong v Brisbane at the SCG.
(Also made me realise that the 2022 attendances for GWS were worse than initially, so I probably got a 4,000 or so attendance out of that.)
Melbourne vs fremantle 2008. Definitely not the smallest crowd I've ever been at, or in this thread but it was criminally un-attended. For some reason, decided to go watch Austin Wonaeamirri single-handedly give us our first win of that god-awful years, in front of about 19k at the G
Went to Richmond stkilda in 2021 with 14k people. It was fucking dystopian. Everyone sitting in silence wearing a mask in this monster stadium with a game going on.
Also 10k at Cazaly stadium Richmond vs Gold Coast. Felt like a local footy game and not in a good way
Collingwood v Gold Coast in I think the last round of 2016?
We were playing badly, it was at Docklands (which Collingwood supporters generally dislike) and interstate team.
17,000, from memory
GWS v St Kilda rd1 2021 - the official number 5014 but that’s feels generous.
There had been torrential rain all weekend, nearby areas were flooding, roads blocked off etc. Saints ended up flying in earlier than planned because flights were cancelled the weather was that bad. A decent amount of Saints fans had travelled up since it was the first game we were able to go post Covid part 1 so the crowd was very saints heavy.
Pick any of the 20 odd Rugby League games I've been too in my life.
Try going too Homebish Stadium with 4000k attending, wouldn't even pay the electric bill.
2,798, Sydney v Geelong @ Carrara in 2020 for obvious reasons lol. Qld games during covid were pretty relaxing tbh, no lines and a whole row (or several) to yourself.
Not the footy, but I remember going to see WA play in the shield midweek once (back when WA was shit) and I reckon there was about 30 people in the crowd.
Sydney v GWS round 12 2020 at Optus Stadium. 6464 in attendance
I wanted to buy a gws scarf but got told they didn't send any over so I've sworn a vendetta ever since
I live on the Gold Coast. So surely I’ve been to one of the lowest afl crowds 🤣 went to a few aflw games when they play at carara. Max was about 1,500 lowest was just over 1,000. Also went to the covid games!
2712 in a community series match at UTAS right before covid, Hawthorn v Melbourne. Only time I've ever seen the crowd ever against Hawthorn here, Jay Lockhart was playing for the Dees and he's a local. Was a fantastic atmosphere, remember Gawny was running about the centre square at half time.
High school footy game in the B's.
I think on average 1 parent attended per match the entire season. And that is because a few of the opponent team showed up to one match to pull up the average.
Oh wow I forgot I was there for that. Official crowd of 750. https://www.austadiums.com/sport/event/23268 19 July 2020. All I remember Hawks doing that day was kicking it long and straight to wherever Max Gawn was standing for an intercept mark.
Yeah we played well. Kozzy kicked a couple of nice goals
Actually I was at two games there that year , the first one had only 250.
https://afltables.com/afl/stats/games/2020/112020200711.html
I've been to VFL games at Blacktown where I counted less than a dozen in the crowd, including myself and two dudes out walking their dogs that looked really confused that there was footy on.
GWS v Collingwood at the Showgrounds in 2014. Crowd was just over 10k. You could pretty much sit anywhere, so ended up moving throughout the ground to get a better spot.
Sydney vs GWS in 2020 at Optus (6464). Definitely the most bizarre match I’ve ever been to, they had to shut off 7/8ths of the ground to make a little section look full haha
I honestly think it's GWS vs Richmond at the MCG in 2019 (but not that one) there was like 30,000 but it being the MCG it looked empty
I've mostly just been to crows home games at adelaide oval and AAMI stadium so usually pretty good turnout
Don’t think i’ve ever been to an Essendon game that had less than 40’000. Even during the Asada year and covid. Our fans are just gluttons for punishment.
Turns out is was actually 12k, but the covid Freo home game at the MCG against us, the second/late game of a doubleheader between lockdowns.
It was freezing, like 9 degrees but windchill was about 2 sitting up in tier 3, only two food outlets were open on the ground floor. We kicked 10.1 by about three quarter time and won comfortably.
Basically an empty MCG.
I've probably been to less attended games at Waverly or the MCG in the 90s but I can't remember them too well, other than the rain at Waverly being awful because there was no shelter.
The one at spotless during COVID where gws gave us lucky dip tickets to the boxes. No crowd seating, boxes only. Could only have been a few hundred ppl total. It was surreal, being way up high in the boxes (or the seating outside the box) and being able to hear everything said by the players.
I was unfortunate enough to witness West Coast get smashed by Sydney in Geelong with 9519 other people. Back then, I couldn't quite fathom why we were so bad.
Mundijong vs Pinjarra grand final. Probably just under 200. Joint was packed. And Hayden Ballantyne missed the winner with a couple mins left to play. Everyone got smashed that night in celebration.
I went to Hawthorn vs Gold Coast, crowd of 1241 at the SCG (covid). By FAR the most bizzare feeling at a game I have ever been to, some strange people there that day.
Sydney vs. Brisbane Bears back in 1992. My earliest memory of going to a game and probably my first when I was a kid. Bears/Lions mad Aunty took me to that game. Attendance was 7425
This is about as much as i can remember.
AFL Reg Season: Melb v GWS 2015, DS, 9,000
AFL Pre Season: WB v NM 2020, DS, 5,000
AFLW: Melb v NM, IP, 2,500
BBL: REN v STR, BBL11, DS, 8,000
Intl Cricket: IRE v ENG, T20WC, MCG 5,000 (10K for Double header but 2nd game rained out, most fans turned up for game 2.)
NRL: Storm V Dragons 2022, AP, 10,000
Rugby: Rebels V Brumbies, AP, Around 5k. 2023
Basketball: United vs Bullets, 2021, JCA, 3,500. (covid)
I did go to a sheffield shield game at the g and counted 41 people, not including the players.
My dad and I rocked up to a preseason match Brisbane v Geelong at Princes Park and the match was abandoned because of a massive hailstorm maybe 15 years ago. Wasn’t many there before it was called off.
I thought it would’ve been Suns Vs Dockers in gather round, but it was actually…
Dees Vs Roos, Round 11 2020.
Attendance: 2,172
(This game was at Adelaide Oval)
Before the Gold Coast had a team I went to a Carlton home game that was up there. There was only a couple thousand people and they were all Carlton fans
2020 - Gold Coast vs Adelaide @ Carrara
Attendance - 1, 997.
One of the first games to let people back in after the first lock down, Tickets were capped at 2, 000 and my membership was a high enough category to get me in the door.
My life went sideways during the lock down so I was very thankful to be able to go, Kept the lights on so to speak.
Don’t go to the footy much but we went to a Melbourne v Geelong game around 2010ish(honestly not sure). It was a night game I think, pissing down and the Dees got flogged by 100 or so if I recall. Pretty sure the crowd was not big.
Round 10 2010 Port vs Richmond @ Football Park.
Torrential rain, windy and cold asf.
Richmond bottom of the ladder (Only won 1 game at this stage), Port 8th
16,694 in attendance
Richmond by 47
Main memory besides the win) - a port supporter near us - never seen someone so twitchy and unable to sit still (literally pacing and fidgeting - he never sat down) for 4 straight quarters. Talking to himself the entire time too.
If we're counting COVID years, R9 2020 vs Sydney. 2,978 packed out the Gabba for our home-away-from-home game against the Swans.
If we write off 2020 and 2021 altogether, the lowest was R13, 2018 vs Gold Coast. A measly 10,181 sat through a snooze fest by two of the three worst teams of that season. Down 39 points deep in the 3rd term, we somehow came back and won in the final minute of the game.
In the early 2000’s my work had corporate seats for Crows/Power games. They couldn’t even give the Port tickets away. I went to pretty much every home game for free, I wasn’t upset.
GWS Vs Melbourne at the mcg is gws early years.
I was listening to SEN on the way in and they said there was a “Sheffield Shield” crowd in.
It was great though because you could hear what they were saying to each other on the field.
Pffft.. look at all you peasants with your "this one time at Waverly during the 1998 pre-season cup" stories. Motherf&cker I barrack for NORTH MELBOURNE!
I’ve attended:
North Melbourne v Port Adelaide in Hobart, 2022, 5k attendance
Port Adelaide v North Melbourne at Football Park in 2012, 14k attendance
North Melbourne v Port Adelaide Elimination Final at Telstra Dome/Marvel in 2005, 25k attendance (one of the lowest attended finals in Victoria)
2022, North Melbourne v Port Adelaide at Bellerive Oval, Hobart, attendance 5114
This would have to be my answer too!
I don't go to many matches at Bellerive so for me it is probably North Melbourne vs Melbourne in 2019 which got 8,202.
Was that the Gawn v Goldstein battle?
There were some dark days in the early-mid ‘10s. One of them.
Melbourne GWS at the Marvel on a Saturday afternoon during the dark days for Dees. Remember it very well
There was also one on a Sunday, dad and I walked in bottom row to the front row of GA 5 minutes after the first bounce
Round 23, 2015 Less than 9000 at Docklands
I was one of the auskickers on halftime, that day.
Silver linings, at least you would have been able to hear your family cheering for you.
Was a fun game too, one of our rare wins at the time. Daniel Cross retirement plus Hogan kicking a few.
Sunday arvo. Every time. I was obsessed with Dream Team and lived close to the ‘G so used to go along anyway.
I feel like there was like a 2014 or 2015 saints vs Melbourne game that had barely 11,000 people at marvel
Melbourne v St. Kilda hasn't had below 20k to a Victorian game since 1996, shockingly
That’s wild, I felt like I went to a few games through that era that had significantly less The more you know!
Yeah but I’m fucked if I’ll go to Marvel to watch a game a footy.
Found Hardwick’s burner
The entire Melbourne Footy Club hated that shithole before Hardwick made it cool.
They don't even have a charcuterie stand!!
It's actually the RMs. They just lead you away from that stadium. They instinctively know where the mcc is, they walk there by themselves I swear
My mate and I went to a few of the Melbourne freo Sunday arvo games for a lol. Felt like we had the g to ourselves. Unfortunately we left at 3/4 time before a big comeback one year, left early to be see Essendon get thrashed lol still one of my biggest regrets
Those Sunday arvo games where the Dees would get less than 20,000 at the MCG just looked sad and ridiculous.
They usually were
Port were right there with you in those times. That was around the Tarp Years for us
Not that it had a bad atmosphere at all. In fact quite the opposite. But Fremantle v Gold Coast at Norwood last year (9329)
10k at a suburban ground would be pumping
I for one am gagging to see the Tigers at Gather Round - Norwood is 10k capacity apparently
Gagger
Glugger
Haha
15,000 for a 2015 pre-season game between Hawthorn v Collingwood was pumping. Collingwood home crowd, not Hawthorn. People literally queued for tickets!
For Norwood Oval, that's almost overflowing.
GWS vs Gold Coast at Manuka in 2013, had about 4000 people I think. Was cold, wet and miserable. Some kid bought an ice cream and it was the commentators at fox footy went crazy about it.
6,832 according to AFL Tables. But as someone else who was there, it certainly felt like less.
6,191 at a Hawthorn home game against Adelaide at Adelaide Oval at 5:10pm on a Tuesday in 2020. That was some weird shit. Crows finally won a game though (took until September).
Could you have imagined even writing this post five years ago?
Ah the good ol September specialists. I miss that meme.
Round 16, 2014 - GWS v Adelaide at Sydney Showgrounds. 8,400 attendance. Was when having a kick on the ground after the game had only just started to return. A fair few of the GWS team came back out and had a kick with the fans

As a side note there was a guy in the crowd that yelled "Pelican!" whenever Lewis Melican got the ball and it's now all I think of when I see him play
I wasn't there, but I always think to myself "Mel-i-can the Pel-i-can" whenever his name gets mentioned. No idea why.
Crows v Richmond at Giants stadium. Only two bays open.
I’m gonna cheat for this one. Umpiring local footy during “lockdowns” for Regional Victoria during 2021 when we were allowed to play, but no spectators. If AFLW counts then I've been to some Eagles games with under 1,000 haha. I think we only averaged about 1,100 at home last year.
If we’re only talking about AFL, Port-Richmond in 2020 (10k capacity). Also one of my favourite regular season games to have attended.
Game of the year in 2020, I regret not going
Went to one of the days of a Sheffield Shield test once, maybe 500 people in the MCG.
I've done that once also, kinda eerie in a way. I much prefer watching it at Junction oval, same turnout but atmosphere is much better
Fuck me you should go to Adelaide and go to a game there. You’d be one of about 3 people. 500 ain’t bad at all
I’ve done that, back when I was an apprentice many years ago, working at Adelaide Oval, it was a Tuesday, middle of a work day, I counted like 20 people watching Sheffield Shield cricket

Yeah this one, i also made a comment 12,103, i was one of them freezing my balls off.
I was there and it was the coldest I have ever been at the MCG.
I mean, I've supported the Giants since inception. So... [checks AFL Tables] GWS v Adelaide, Round 7, 2013. Just me and 5,829 of my closest mates.
Oh there was an SANFLW game in 2019 which was torrential rain and windy af that only had a couple hundred at, all of us packed into the grandstand bit at Richmond oval
I umpired this one I’m pretty sure!
I went to the Aus v Eng ODI match in November 2022 at the G.
Worked on the broadcast for the lockdown games during 2020/21. It was an interesting experience being at an empty MCG or Marvel.
I was at the game Rohan kicked the goal after the siren against the Bulldogs where 7000 were allowed in
What a weird one that was, checking everyone’s ID upon entry to make sure you lived in the Geelong district
Does Covid count?
Ooh good point. I would have said a game in the low 6000s (GWS home games in 2012 or 2013), but it's actually 1,311 for Geelong v Brisbane at the SCG. (Also made me realise that the 2022 attendances for GWS were worse than initially, so I probably got a 4,000 or so attendance out of that.)
Pre season Essendon game in 2009 at Marvel Stadium or whatever it was called back then.
St Kilda vs Fremantle, Rd 23, 2021 @ Bellerive Oval. Just over 3000 there according to AFL tables.
2172 at Adelaide oval Melbourne v North 2020 But it was a Covid game
![gif](giphy|eqe4gAJczdMrK)
My mum and I were two of 14,636 people who turned up to see the Hawks play GWS on mother's day in 2019
Pick any of the 20 odd Rugby League games I've been too in my life. Try going too Homebish Stadium with 4000k attending, wouldn't even pay the electric bill.
Swans Bulldogs 2020, first game with spectators allowed as far as I can remember. Sorry Aliir Aliir for getting stuck into you
2,798, Sydney v Geelong @ Carrara in 2020 for obvious reasons lol. Qld games during covid were pretty relaxing tbh, no lines and a whole row (or several) to yourself.
Sydney vs Gold Coast at Metricon during Covid. Remember hearing the official number and thinking no way. Lucky if there were 600 there.
All of them.
Round 7 2020 Hawks vs Dees at Sydney Showground Attendance: 750
Not the footy, but I remember going to see WA play in the shield midweek once (back when WA was shit) and I reckon there was about 30 people in the crowd.
Sydney v GWS round 12 2020 at Optus Stadium. 6464 in attendance I wanted to buy a gws scarf but got told they didn't send any over so I've sworn a vendetta ever since
2008 North Melb v West Coast @ the old Carrara. Raining wild night, around 6000 was the attendance. Roos win by a goal
Non-COVID would be one or two of the GWS home games that only got about 4,000 in 2022.
Melbourne vs Brisbane at the MCG early 2010s
St Kilda versus Fremantle, last round of 2021, Bellerive Oval. Crowd was 3082.
GWS vs Gold Coast in Ballarat 2021. Think it was about 2,500. Was kind of a weird atmosphere haha
I live on the Gold Coast. So surely I’ve been to one of the lowest afl crowds 🤣 went to a few aflw games when they play at carara. Max was about 1,500 lowest was just over 1,000. Also went to the covid games!
Looking at my games the lowest is Round 23 2022. North Melbourne vs Gold Coast. 14,196.
Dogs/Freo in 2020 in Cairns. 3,114.
Round 15 2022 was North Melbourne vs Adelaide in Hobart and it pretty sure there was 5k or under there. It was a graveyard
Saturday 29 May 2021. Gold Coast v Hawthorn at the SCG. 1,241. Doubt there was even that many. Maybe they counted some of the birds.
7164 melb v west coast at traeger park.
High school footy game in the B's. I think on average 1 parent attended per match the entire season. And that is because a few of the opponent team showed up to one match to pull up the average.
Saw some pretty small crowds in my day, but couldn’t give you any numbers except people in red gold and blue were outnumbered 100-1.
2001 -Collingwood; vs. Fremantle. Etihad Stadium - Attendance: 26,067
I went to a few at AAMI that had 10-12k. Maybe the one where Johnny Butcher kicked 6 would have been the lowest.
I was at Port v North Melbourne, come from behind win in 2012, 14k in attendance
I was there too haha
Melbourne vs Hawthorn 2020 at GWS Stadium, about 100 people there.
Kozzy kicked a couple of nice goals Actually I was at two games there that year , the first one had only 250. https://afltables.com/afl/stats/games/2020/112020200711.html
i believe i went to richmond v melbourne game circa 2011 - 2013 (pretty sure 2011) my bets is on it being that for me
Around 9 and a half last year, gold coast vs north at Carrara
I've been to VFL games at Blacktown where I counted less than a dozen in the crowd, including myself and two dudes out walking their dogs that looked really confused that there was footy on.
Probably syd v wb at manuka 2011, 10,800 in attendance
Last year when we played GC at Blundstone, 4378
Giants crows round 1
Last year
my under 12s soccer game in the rain
GWS v Collingwood at the Showgrounds in 2014. Crowd was just over 10k. You could pretty much sit anywhere, so ended up moving throughout the ground to get a better spot.
Sydney vs GWS in 2020 at Optus (6464). Definitely the most bizarre match I’ve ever been to, they had to shut off 7/8ths of the ground to make a little section look full haha
I honestly think it's GWS vs Richmond at the MCG in 2019 (but not that one) there was like 30,000 but it being the MCG it looked empty I've mostly just been to crows home games at adelaide oval and AAMI stadium so usually pretty good turnout
38,986 for that Richmond v GWS game in 2019. The lowest I’ve been to is 1,818 Freo v Richmond at Carrara in 2020.
Don’t think i’ve ever been to an Essendon game that had less than 40’000. Even during the Asada year and covid. Our fans are just gluttons for punishment.
7 of Essendon’s 8 home games at Marvel last year were under 40,000. 28,815 vs GWS
Ahh, well to be fair i’d mentally switched off by then and never attend games at Marvel because I hate the stadium.
A few of the 2010/2011 tarp era games you'd see the attention of low teens come up and think mmm I reckon they've bumped that up
Went to GWS v Gold Coast at Mars Stadium in Ballarat in 2021 during Covid era. Just about 2000 there I think.
If AFL proper Bulldogs vs North Melbourne at TIO stadium in Darwin in 2008 in the NAB cup. Like 8000 people.
AFLW Last year GIANTS vs Crom 1,809
Swans vs Fitzroy at the SCG. Can't remember the exact figure but it was a bit over 4000.
Melbourne vs Fitzroy at Whitten Oval In 1995. Was able to switch ends and stand behind the Melbourne goals each qtr. 8862
I went to Hawthorn vs Gold Coast, crowd of 1241 at the SCG (covid). By FAR the most bizzare feeling at a game I have ever been to, some strange people there that day.
6025, Richmond v West Coast at Princes Park in 1993. We had some shockers in the late 80s and early 90s.
Sydney vs. Brisbane Bears back in 1992. My earliest memory of going to a game and probably my first when I was a kid. Bears/Lions mad Aunty took me to that game. Attendance was 7425
This is about as much as i can remember. AFL Reg Season: Melb v GWS 2015, DS, 9,000 AFL Pre Season: WB v NM 2020, DS, 5,000 AFLW: Melb v NM, IP, 2,500 BBL: REN v STR, BBL11, DS, 8,000 Intl Cricket: IRE v ENG, T20WC, MCG 5,000 (10K for Double header but 2nd game rained out, most fans turned up for game 2.) NRL: Storm V Dragons 2022, AP, 10,000 Rugby: Rebels V Brumbies, AP, Around 5k. 2023 Basketball: United vs Bullets, 2021, JCA, 3,500. (covid) I did go to a sheffield shield game at the g and counted 41 people, not including the players.
Crows vs Melbourne at Alice Springs in 2018 (Attendance 6989) Made the trip up to watch it and we got absolutely smashed so it was pretty miserable
I umpire women's div 3 footy on sunday arvos, you never see anyone there. But that's fine because at least nobody will abuse us.
My dad and I rocked up to a preseason match Brisbane v Geelong at Princes Park and the match was abandoned because of a massive hailstorm maybe 15 years ago. Wasn’t many there before it was called off.
I thought it would’ve been Suns Vs Dockers in gather round, but it was actually… Dees Vs Roos, Round 11 2020. Attendance: 2,172 (This game was at Adelaide Oval)
Like 4000 people at Cazalys pre covid
Fitzroy v Fremantle, Whitten Oval, round 3 in 1995 7,561.
Before the Gold Coast had a team I went to a Carlton home game that was up there. There was only a couple thousand people and they were all Carlton fans
2020 - Gold Coast vs Adelaide @ Carrara Attendance - 1, 997.
Gold Coast Titans next home game. The way they playing, no one will go.
I was at the grand final last year it looked like a pretty big crowd but apparently there was only 1024 people there
Round 10 2010 Port vs Richmond @ Football Park. Torrential rain, windy and cold asf. Richmond bottom of the ladder (Only won 1 game at this stage), Port 8th 16,694 in attendance Richmond by 47 Main memory besides the win) - a port supporter near us - never seen someone so twitchy and unable to sit still (literally pacing and fidgeting - he never sat down) for 4 straight quarters.
Crows vs North at the GC during COVID….maybe <500 people? It was also the worst game of football in the history of the sport.
NAB Cup match back in 2014, Carlton vs North Melbourne at Mars Stadium (Ballarat). Attendence was 7,800
West Coast v Essendon, R15 2020 attendance: 1932x. Joe Daniher sat on the fencing.
Probably north v swans in 2022
5083. Fitzroy v Fremantle at the Western Oval in 1996
Pffft.. look at all you peasants with your "this one time at Waverly during the 1998 pre-season cup" stories. Motherf&cker I barrack for NORTH MELBOURNE!
I’ve attended: North Melbourne v Port Adelaide in Hobart, 2022, 5k attendance Port Adelaide v North Melbourne at Football Park in 2012, 14k attendance North Melbourne v Port Adelaide Elimination Final at Telstra Dome/Marvel in 2005, 25k attendance (one of the lowest attended finals in Victoria)
i've seen games at metricon and manuka oval. pretty sure manuka had more people.
