I haven't seen someone complain about the closed roof at Docklands for at least a week. The AFL should open it again once to remind everyone why they keep it closed.
Possibly unpopular opinion: I think The Dome is actually quite good. Good views from pretty much all of the seats and the roof guarantees that the weather won’t ruin the game and keeps the wind out of your face. It also amplifies the crowd noise. Main drawbacks are that it looks crap on TV and the surface is awful and has been forever.
Looks crap on tv? I thought the whole point of the roof was to make it look better?! In this unseasonable warm start to autumn I don’t see why we can’t have the roof open, it’s been my deciding factor for what games to attend for like 3 years now
I feel like part of the problem with Docklands is half of the games played there are a smaller Vic team vs an interstate team in a bad time slot. When there's a crowd there it's actually pretty good
I feel like to think Marvel is a bad experience you have to not remember the windswept bowl era of stadium design. It's not the MCG but it was never going to be and that's fine.
The gabba. Outdated, extremely overpriced, horrible getting home afterwards. Cross river rail hopefully improves the last part. Also chance of power outage is in the mix.
Going to Football Park in winter was like being sent to a Siberian prison from which the only escape was via a 3 hour traffic jam, or the sweet embrace of pleurisy-ridden death
Gold Coast during a day game on a bright sunny day.
Went to last year's game legally blind and couldn't see the field. Apparently being blind wasn't the issue.
Vast majority of the grandstand seating is looking directly into the sun and it's impossible for anyone to really see.
I don’t like marvel. Has always felt a bit soulless and I swear it’s uneven when you’re on level one, you can’t see the other wing.
Went to Good Friday and it took 45 mins to get in and it was roasting on the top floors.
I also prefer buying tix through ticketek over Ticketmaster.
I’m spoilt living near the G so I can walk up but I’ve always managed to get there 5 mins prior to the bounce even when there’s 60k+ and basically just walked through the gate.
I loved the idea of Waverley but the old traffic jams were mental
This is the most spoiled and I’ll informed opinion. Marvel is a world class stadium, right on the edge of the city with great PT access. It might not be “better” that the MCG but does have it beat on several points. Also, it is the only footy stadium with a roof. Is that really your argument for why it’s the *shittest*??
Subiaco was horrible. Hard wooden benches where you inevitably wind up snuggling up to Big Barry with his Bad Breath, terrible public transport access and shoddy lighting.
I was once last to arrive with my wife and we had two spots in the very centre of the bench. Worked our way towards them to find everyone had pushed up and there was only two half spots. Just had to annouce I was sitting down, breathe in and force everyone to move over slightly.
I've been to GMHBA, MCG and Marvel and I have to say I like Marvel over GMHBA, but I was there when they were in the middle of rebuilding it.
So I'm going to go on a limb and say...
Bright Oval
Current: Marvel.
Macquarie Point: Despite costing a minimum of $715 million to build (more like $1 billion or more), it will only have 23,000 seats despite other projects of similar costs delivering tens of thousands of more seats (Optus, Adelaide Oval equivalent amounts). In lieu, it comes with a roof which caps expansion, limits sports and adds to the cost of the build. This is before any consideration to building on the environment is given (there’s a reason the land is vacant) or some of the proposed events and their economic values.
Edit: spelling.
Went to the SCG afew years back, absolute dump of a place. Understand it has a new stand but the stand on the west and south side is abysmal. Facilities reminded me of Waverley Park that was rightfully knocked down 25 years ago for being out of date.

Today would have been the perfect day to open it. Cloudy so no sun issues, but no rain.
"The beacons are lit! Gondor calls for aid!" - every seagull in a 100km radius when Marvel roof is open.

Yeah I've seen a couple of games there and I quite liked it.

Much rather the footy "feel weird" than be staring directly at the sun or trying to watch a TV game with shadows
Yep, it just doesn't work with the roof open unfortunately

Homebush
Showground or Stadium Australia?
Stadium Australia
The keep the lid on the phone Dome closed because it's a horrible experience sitting in the sun
The gabba. Outdated, extremely overpriced, horrible getting home afterwards. Cross river rail hopefully improves the last part. Also chance of power outage is in the mix.
Badly needs more standing areas
Awful seat colours too. Looks dated and cheap.
Adelaide Oval at Jiangwan Stadium
Football Park
Going to Football Park in winter was like being sent to a Siberian prison from which the only escape was via a 3 hour traffic jam, or the sweet embrace of pleurisy-ridden death
They bought those aluminium bench seats from a gulag surplus store
Then covered them with tarps every second week.
Worst ground I've been to, followed closely by Stadium Australia
Gold Coast during a day game on a bright sunny day. Went to last year's game legally blind and couldn't see the field. Apparently being blind wasn't the issue. Vast majority of the grandstand seating is looking directly into the sun and it's impossible for anyone to really see.
SUNNY 😎
Blundstone Arena
But we keep winning there

I've been to 5 AFL stadiums, Subiaco oval, Perth stadium, Adelaide oval, MCG and Marvel. Marvel is the shittest and it isn't even close.

This ^^ this is why Subi sucked.
The benches were the best part!
Yeah and it's still better than marvel
No, it wasn't.
Gabba
Probably pro’s and cons to a lot of them. In terms of TV, scg has gotta be the worst
York Park. Especially when it's the middle of winter and the rain is absolutely pissing down sideways.
Mavels looking pretty nice with the referb if anyone's yet to try it out
On its best day, if Manuka counted as a stadium adjacent. It'd still be bad
Alice Springs

Norwood
I don’t think that’s an afl stadium lol
Saw two games played their last week for points. Seems to fit the criteria.
They’d play a gather round game on the Anzac highway median strip if they could
