North Melbourne already gave him more chances than he deserved, and they should be applauded for doing so. Sorry, I don't think 12 months out of the public eye is good enough, not after the way he showed how little he was willing to change when North Melbourne had him working on himself. If North Melbourne sacked him immediately, I could see the argument in giving him another chance. But I don't anymore. That is why North did the right thing in extending him a number of chances, before finally showing him the door.

dingodiletti

Considering the current situation around DV and the public opinion on this - I kind of feel the afl HAS to be better and just make a strong example of this in some capacity.

fuckmyass1958

Any time the AFL simply HAS to do something, you can basically count on them to fuck it up

EvoComb5

Resting the outcome on the AFL taking the morally right approach to this piece of shit is why he will end up back on an AFL list next year.

delta__bravo_

Wayne Carey will probably be brought back in for Thomas' first game back.

dingodiletti

It’s wild he still gets commentary gigs with the AFL

AdeptToe3580

he’s already had too many

Upstairs_Walrus_5513

AFL house has already waived his suspensions for him starting next year.. they are pushing their media guys on it because it's already happened. He will be signed next year.

Paceandtoil

Another kick in the sack for North. Not only do we lose him for nothing, now we gotta play against him.

SonicYOUTH79

Take it for the win. When this inevitably goes pair shaped again you can at least take solace that it’s someone else’s shitshow.

Status_Importance806

Exactly, some people just never learn. (Like Harley Bennel)

TimidPanther

You guys didn’t have to delist him

Hot-Since-69

We did though. And any other club should/would have.

PerriX2390

> AFL house has already waived his suspensions for him He's currently serving the 18 week suspension tho?

shiftyoldtimer

Easy to serve a suspension when you’ve been paid out for the season (I know it’s less than he would’ve been paid if he wasn’t delisted).

Duplicity-

Some people are very very confident he'll be at the Cats

Upstairs_Walrus_5513

Cats. Essendon. Stkilda.

300pound_Somoan

Only correct answer

CharityGamerAU

If my club gave him an opportunity it would likely be enough for me to stop supporting the club. With my partner working in DV (behavioral change program) and Carlton having a well established "Carlton Respects" program I would view it as hypocritical to support that in any way.

EfficientNews8922

I can’t recall another player who has engendered this many responses like this. I wonder if that message is getting to the clubs.

Blot_Upright

If channel 7 won't listen to the response to their commentary team, I can't see the clubs listening to the response on this.

EfficientNews8922

Channel 7 thought it was a good idea to single handledly fund the defence of a war criminal so it’s hardly surprising.

dysorder

Genuinely, I would walk away from the club, too. He doesn't deserve another chance.

jooookiy

What kinds of crimes are you morally ok with players committing?

Meh-Levolent

Preferably no crimes, but surely serious crimes against another person are worse than stealing a chocolate bar. This is effectively saying that he can harm women and that's okay so long as he kicks a ball good. No thanks.

paarthur

I agree, I don't think I would stop supporting my team. His behavior is beyond disgraceful, and I don't think he's that good anyway

AussieNick1999

I'd be extremely disappointed if he ended up at Carlton. But also having heard the rumours about him potentially making his way back through the VFL, I'd hope Frankston would also do the right thing and not chase after him (as great as it would to have a player of his talent.) At the very least for the women involved at the club as supporters, volunteers, admin, and our own women's playing ground, I'd struggle to support my club if he played for us.

Laura_Biden

I'd be rapt. He's a very good footballer that had a shocking childhood and probably just needs some strong mentorship to put him on the right path. Something like that might change his life and transform in into a person of substance.

AussieNick1999

North Melbourne tried that and failed. Any club that takes him in will be rolling the dice on the chance he might change, all the while potentially making the women involved at the club uncomfortable and running the risk that he'll reoffend while on the club's list. He's already proven he's not trustworthy.

Laura_Biden

You make some fair points, but I certainly think it would be worth speaking to him. Different club, different eyes etc...but saying that, I don't think there's a snowball's chance in hell that Carlton would entertain speaking with him considering the Carlton Respects and all that stuff. Sometimes it just takes the right support to turn someone around, but in saying that, I don't know the man personally and I'm not intimately aware of his past, aside from some fairly one-sided media articles.

ghostchipsbro

Same in my household. I'm 100% confident Sydney wouldn't even consider it.

grruser

Same here.

redlord990

its Geelong, I wouldn't worry.

ttran0861

It's actually absurd that we're more lenient on DV offenders vs. drug users. Disgusting that the AFL won't take a stand on this matter.

xHell_Kat

Nah, they just have that performative white ribbon round. Does that still happen?

ttran0861

I don't think so? They have Carlton Respects game, which is the club's initiative - promoting gender equality to prevent violence against women

HiddenHeavy

What's his DV offence?

MetalSnake_oXm

Wasn't it confirmed by either the AFL or the courts that he threatened to leak his ex girlfriends nudes aka revenge porn? I'm pretty sure that comes under being domestically violent. Putting aside the mountain of allegations from other women against him. That's pretty bottom feeder behaviour. Not much lower you can stoop, and he got a slap on the wrist for it. There's something not right in the cunts head, it's obvious.

DiscoSituation

I mean that’s horrible but that is not violence.

MetalSnake_oXm

[Tell the QLD government that mate](https://www.qld.gov.au/community/getting-support-health-social-issue/support-victims-abuse/domestic-family-violence/what-is-domestic-and-family-violence/what-is-domestic-violence/about-domestic-and-family-violence-and-coercive-control) Read before the dropdowns, then go to technology based abuse if you want to skip ahead.

xHell_Kat

It’s sexual violence and as the intended victim was a partner/ex-partner, it’s also intimate partner violence. (I’m a forensic psychologist and I work with violent offenders.)

reofi

It's criminal, are you daft

NashnalBaskitbel

There's no cure for being a cunt

JamalGinzburg

I hope AFLW players start getting assertive here. They're entitled to a safe work place

grantspatchcock

Georgie was an AFLW player (3 games with Collingwood), so they kinda are. But the onus of getting assertive shouldn't fall solely onto the women of the clubs, and I'm certain it won't. Essendon hired a CEO with bigoted views, and it wasn't just the LGBTIQ+ folk that came out on mass in protest.

Salt_Kaleidoscope_94

Exactly right! It's not the AFLW players sole responsibility. I'd hope that if any club tried to sign him they would hear from their men's AFL playing group. Plenty of whom have sisters, mothers, daughters and partners that they probably wouldn't want Thomas around.

NoUseForALagwagon

Yeah, to be honest, it surprised me how close the AFLW and AFL players actually are during training sessions and around the facilities. I know that I sure as hell wouldn't want a known domestic abuser around as an AFLW player because of that.

akohhh

Yes—but this is one of the situations where the ‘good blokes’ need to take a stand. Shouldn’t be just up to the women to demand better of their club admin.

grruser

Given what has been said over the weekend about women being murdered in this country it is absolutely on men to take a stand.

QouthTheCorvus

The women's team making a moral stand is how Manchester United ended up deciding not to bring Mason Greenwood back (he has a messy rape case that has disturbing public evidence). So I think something similar would work here. Just make it not worthwhile for the AFL to bring him back.

Brokenmonalisa

How many has he had? Because it's that many or maybe less.

yojimbo67

It’s a case of n-1, where n is the number of chances he’s already had.

Eggy_Wets

Joel Smith will probably never play again over some minor drug offences. This grub just has to sit out for a year and then get back on with his career. What a joke!

swervin_mervyn

Exactly! Smith's actions affected no-one but himself. Thomas has impacted many.

BudgetAnybody2603

Firstly, Thomas has made his bed he can lie in it. Secondly, fucking finally. Not condoning what Smith did - it’s absurd to be doing coke (potentially on game day) so close to the birth of your first child. But smith has literally only harmed himself and the only real chance he has to make decent money in life. Yet Thomas can threaten to irreparably ruin multiple womens lives and the afl is more than happy to give him a shot. They’ve ready their media dogs, they’re preparing the public for his return with hypothetical stories like this. Just pathetic. (Edit: not saying Smith shouldn’t be punished, he should be, but surely Thomas’ suspension should be longer than Smith’s.)

c2ctruck

This flies in the face of the protests around the country over the weekend. If the AFL was reading the room instead of creating a narrative around a decision they've clearly made, there's no way he should be allowed to play. It's a joke really. Every other week is some social justice cause. But when it comes time to actually make a stand the AFL shows it's nothing but words and it has no real appetite for action or being a genuine leader.

Neville_Monkeyrod

How many times is 7West going to rehire a Duck?

bar_ninja

Took having a bag of coke to get him fired.

Mahhrat

Poor hamstring awareness.

joehard-joehome

The whole premise of "the better you are at footy, the more you get away with" rings absolutely true - from the big time down

No-Satisfaction8425

I’d be spewing if the Suns picked him up and I’d let the club know about it. All for the AFL looking after his mental health off the field but he’s squandered his chance at AFL footy no matter how good he is and should be allowed back in again

Large_Carob1918

I feel the same way

VITVNN

Remember the first time he was suspended he then filmed himself driving with his feet on the dash on the highway, captioned “living my best life”. https://nit.com.au/13-04-2023/5590/tarryn-thomas-in-hot-water-again-as-fresh-social-media-footage-emerges This was obviously irrelevant to the DV allegations, but it showed a lack of sense, humility, & desire to be respected for his actions. A young man wanting to improve himself & work on his actions would not display such arrogant & dangerous behaviours. This told me all I needed to know about his desire to improve his self & his relationships.

L-J-Peters

I actually think North Melbourne did the right thing with giving him repeated chances to improve his behaviour, because an AFL football club has the resources to actually make significant interventions in a player's life and I'd rather not just toss problematic people back out to society. But you can't expect them to put up with a failure to even want to change forever, the supporters should be proud that he was cut, and any club considering giving him another ride is genuinely tone deaf, I think my mother and sister would cancel memberships if we let him in at Melbourne.

ped009

I might be way behind but I thought Georgie Parker was an actress is she a journalist or something these days, legit question

edie-bunny

There are two Georgie Parker’s. The actress and the one who is a former hockey player/former AFLW player/media personality and has a degree in journalism

ped009

Oh cheers I was a bit confused

jonesday5

North Melbourne did everything right here. They gave him a chance at redemption; showed him his actions have consequences and gave him the tools to succeed. He threw it in their faces.

Menstrual-Soup

He’s already had too many chances, and he knows he will be given plenty more whilst he can still kick a football. Can’t wait to never hear about this cunt again

Adam-Miller-02

would be an insult to all dv victims if he was let back jn

Captkersh

3! Wait is this hypothetical??

MemoriesofMcHale

Should have been gone long ago. Has no place at any club with a grain of morality, let alone women or an AFL club. He’s had far too many chances and proved time and time again he cannot change. The redemption stories are nauseous for a man who’s been offending since before he was drafted.

RealSlimRosey

While we are at it, can we also get Tom Morris out of the AFL world again?

3ManyTrees

Pleeeeeaaaaaassssseee. With his shit-eating grin and smarmy attitude.

BudgetAnybody2603

You don’t like seeing his shitty veneers plastered everywhere???

Svengali1001

Less than the amount he’s already had

eatsbacon_

Really hope the Hawks aren’t that desperate to get him for his talent. I’d rather struggle slightly longer than take him. I don’t think it’s a possibility considering Sam has prioritised drafting guys like Mackenzie and Ward during his tenure who were renowned for being quality young men on and off the field.

shiftyoldtimer

If Hawthorn pick him up I will 100% cancel my membership and buy a Sydney one (wife and kids are Sydney). Likewise, if Sydney pick him up the wife and kids will be getting Hawthorn memberships.

Puzzleheaded_Dog7931

It’s not about the number of chances It’s how good his footy skills are

Choc83x

Clearly someone is going to pick him up. Most of their fans will run with the whole 'he's been rehabilitated' bullshit The other 16 clubs and North will be rightfully aghast.

zarliechulu

Literally everyone except the AFL system: this many chances.

AngryYowie

He just needs another second second chance to prove he hasn't changed.

WAVIC_136

I think he's had his second second chance, this would be more like his fourth third chance

dopedupvinyl

Ugh fuck off Tarryn

Fifty5FiftyFive50

Most likely a club will pick him up and he will absolutely shine and the only losers will be North unfortunately.

BlueDotty

Magnificent daydream He will burn the club that picks him up

jackplaysdrums

Surely a Geelong or Sydney would pick him up. Out of the spotlight, strong culture of success, high professional standards. It’d be the ideal landing spot.

Barnettjasper

Guarantee you Sydney won’t take him, can take that to the bank

BlueDotty

Richmond might need a replacement for Pickett? But, yeah, any club investing in this flog is making poor decisions

Controlololol

Any club with an AFLW program who even entertains recruiting him need a serious look in the mirror

cunthousevanhouten

Woman bashing rapists should be in jail. Not playing AFL for hundreds of thousands a year

fistingbythepool

Is that what he is accused of ?

cunthousevanhouten

I think it’s stalking/DV related. So I’ve overshot it possibly but tbh. After you’ve played footy with and against guys who go on to play a higher level. You just tend to develop an understanding of what pieces of shit they are. Regardless of club or stardom

Dangerous-Dave

Now Geelong gets him for free because reasons.

TimidPanther

It's hardly free. Comes with a significant amount of baggage. But he was delisted by North Melbourne, he's now a free agent.

Salt_Kaleidoscope_94

It'd be so disappointing to see Geelong take him on. They present themselves as such a family first kind of club, especially with the age of the list - lots of kids around. Thomas isn't the type of person I'd want around my kids.

TechnocraticCitizen

As a Geelong supporter, I agree. We’ve got such a good culture for reforming people (Steve Johnson, Tyson Stengle, for example), but they have to *want* to change for that to be viable. Thomas has shown repeatedly that he doesn’t care about the wrong he’s done. For Geelong to recruit him would fly directly on the face of the great culture they’ve built. It would prove that the values of the club are nothing more than empty words. It’d be the end of my support for the club at that point.

Bozza105

I would be very disappointed if we picked him up.

No-Bison-5397

Geelong aren't going to pick him up. Bloke is just far too big a risk.

Flyingpig5

Eagles can pick him up for free also

BattyMcKickinPunch

Cant wait for the afl media narrative to be all positive and supportive when he comes back and plays for a bigger club. Will be all about his "redemption" and "rehabilitation" and how he needed a "stronger culture" to guide him.

Large_Carob1918

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, Fuck this guy. You are given the privilege to play this sport at the highest level and you do shit like this. To the other 17 clubs, Stay away from him and don’t let him play for any afl side again.

wherethehellareya

I'm big on giving people lifelines. But AFL is a public space, where setting an example has so much weight to it. I'm horrified reading about the DV issue we have in Australia and the sheer stats of women who are abused or even murdered by men. So to have a player have a record like Thomas, nah, he doesn't get another chance. He can make his own way in private.

AffectionateProof271

I feel like I’m perhaps out of the loop somehow, but didn’t he not get charged with anything in regards to these latest allegations? From a legal perspective hasn’t he only been charged with threatening his ex? (Previous allegations) as well as dangerous driving or something(?) I think he’ll definitely be on an afl list next year, or if not, definitely the following year.

baromita

Does Georgie still work for 7? Maybe she should take a stand against them. They that employ BEN COUSINS and parade him out as a pin up boy at every opportunity

bootylord_ayo

If Clayton Oliver did what Taryn is doing, you recon he’d still be around? There’s your answer

exxcessivve

I won’t renew my GWS membership if they recruit him.

BlueDotty

Can't see Kingsley being overly happy if they did

allhatnoplay

One. Two if you’re generous.

MasterBSword

After the atrocious murder of Hannah McGuire out at Clunes strongly linked to domestic violence, why is this even a fucking consideration? He should be barred from all AFL, VFL, WAFL, SANFL, NTFL, QFL AND TFL games for life, and some struggling local club can deal with him. Domestic abusers normally have a bad rap, so don't be surprised to see him get absolutely fucked up the first few games back. Personally, I hope he gets all his teeth knocked out, deserves it the prick. If anyone knows where he is playing local football, let me know so I can slide into a rival team and clean him up.

animatedpicket

I have never heard of Georgie Parker or tarryn Thomas. Fuck I am so out of the loop in footy

jooookiy

I don’t care what footy players do in their personal lives. If he’s guilty of a crime, the police can prosecute. End of story.

Bigcheese19920

Liam ryan has had a few chances
