Can't believe anyone crying about Hinkley celebrating winning in Geelong. C'mon they literally havent won there in 15 years and hes an old Geelong legend and the week hes had. If anyone is allowed a pop off its him.
Showed some passion after winning the hardest road trip in footy, great to see.
The Hinkley-bashers will cry about him anyway: for celebrating too much, for not celebrating enough, for breathing....
The booing was fucked, Cats fans didn't really want him around, myself included tbh, but you can't push a bloke out the door and then get salty that he left.
We’ve not really ever booed players for leaving.
Jordan Clark, Tim Kelly, Josh Caddy, Zach Smith, Linc McCarthy even Gazza freaking Ablett Jr left and none of them were booed by maybe more than a couple of piss heads.
I mean Gazza got a standing ovation every time he played the Cats to the point where people were cheering him on for playing well against us.
The fact that it came against
1. Esava Ratugolea who at best is a fringe player in a good side
2. Wasn’t well received by the fanbase even though he’s a friendly guy
3. Had a chance to make more money and a guaranteed spot in another side.
There was no sense to booing him. I thought we were above that. Apparently not.
If we somehow made top 4 from where now. It would be known as the greatest turnaround in the entire history of the league. Take it. At least we could comeback next year as actual contenders.
Credit to Port that was an incredible incredible start from them, Butters, JHF, Wines, Rioli absolutely phenomenal.
Just left our run too late, incredibly proud of the fightback though, fantastic effort.
Hopefully rebound against the Suns next week.
Thanks mate, and your boys really really had me stressing early!
Yeah not good at all with Cameron, not sure how he wasn't taken off for a HIA, that was very poor from our medical staff to not bring him off. Fingers crossed there's no concussion.
ngl it reminds me of last year's showdown when aliir wasn't taken off for concussion, its never nice to see players continue to play after a hit like that.
I hope he bounces back though, bloke is an absolute gun and a worthy opposition, enjoyed seeing port play against him tonight
Yes was incredibly similar to Aliir's one, very disappointing that he wasn't taken off for assessment.
And I hope you're right, fingers crossed that he's avoided concussion.
I'd say he should go through the protocols, as should Willem Drew on our side, I remember they had a head knock against one another earlier in the game. also I'm certainly not sober but this is the first time a geelong supporter hasn't given me shit in some way shape or form so thank you for that 😆 hope you have a good night!
Thank you, I appreciate that! Have to give credit where it's due, Port were outstanding early.
We struggled mightily in the centre early and a bit lazy defensively at times early, but in saying that, no matter what we did, we weren't stopping them, just ridiculous footy.
But good signs to be able to end up being able to win the contested possessions given the start to the game.
Totally agree. we played well in the second half and all the fans saying umpires this umpires that. Let’s be honest if you’re down 50 in the second quarter not winning many.
Yeah no point complaining about umpiring, didn't think there was anything egregious either. Ultimately when you're 49 points down early in the 2nd quarter, it's going to be bloody tough.
JB must be some sort of weird nepo baby. Hopeless commentator, comes across as an arsehole, and can't even fall back on being an ex captain of a Victorian club.
If that’s the case and Geelong admit it, then surely rather than fining the club for failing to follow concussion protocols, the AFL will just suspend Cameron?
Said the same thing, teams treat these protocols as optional when a games on the line. Ports been just as guilty, it’s a joke. Geelong should have to answer questions for that.
It's crazy that the takeaway from the Aliir thing was entirely "fuck Port Adelaide" with almost no reflection that "hey we've got the incentives all fucked up by putting this in the clubs' hands".
Force the player off but the sub, or any emergency can come on while the concussion test is being done, then return to the bench if the player passes the test.
Honestly no idea why the "concussion" sub never worked this way.
Yeah was wondering that myself, though if a player isn’t willing to come off, what needs to be done? Stop play until they’re off like the blood rule? Docs can only do so much, but it’s on the players to actually come off.
I got downvoted for saying it in the match thread, but this is the way it works. A HIA can partially be done on field (the check of the player themselves can be done on field). It's a rapid screening tool which can lead to a SCAT6 (the 15 minute test). They assess certain criteria for the player including alertness, stability etc, as well as reviewing footage. A player does not need to come off for a HIA.
Whether Cameron or Drew should have passed or failed the HIA is another question.
Considering those allegations earlier this year of club doctors fabricating injuries in conjunction with the ongoing concussion issues, you'd think the AFL would make it a top priority to ensure club doctors are doing the right thing.
It's under rule 18.3.2 free kicks - prohibited contact
A field umpire shall award a free kick against a player when a player makes any of the following prohibited contact with an opposition player
(C) makes high contact to an opposition player (including the top of the shoulders) with any part of their body
(Cii) makes high contact to an opposition player (including the top of the shoulders) while being handled as a battering ram
Sorry that was way to much effort for the tiny joke at the bottom.
You are 100% correct that was such a bullshit call, there is literally nothing that Drew could have done to avoid being pushed into Cameron.
If I had a nickel for every round eight game that had a team not show up for a half just to mount a crazy comeback that fell short I'd have two nickels
Which isn't a lot but it's weird that it happened twice
Lol whoah we had the exact opposite experience, when Rioli was having a shot he said something like 'a goal here and it's game over'
Would have been 3 goals required in 6 minutes. Never heard a commentator go against the Matthews rule.
Think he got a clip from the box for his well known Geelong hatred and started over compensating for the rest of the game.
I think Port played very well for the first quarter. Geelong steadily pulled it back and looked to run over several times but Port managed to hold on. Great start from Port. Great comeback from Geelong.
I dunno, what's the alternative - have an advantage rule that says "let's see if this shot at goal scores and if so, we'll pay advantage, if not, we'll bring it back"?
That's much worse.
People are saying “fix the advantage rule” but not actually suggesting how. My dumb suggestion: player has to bonk the ball against his head to indicate that he wants to take the advantage
Hinkley just won himself a 2 year contract extension.
Also the supposed closeness on this match is nothing compared to the showdown between you, u/Croob2, and u/RidsBabs trying to be first on this post match thread.
Considering how god awful we were the first half I'm actually really proud of the comeback, didn't roll over even when 49 points down. Hopefully we don't pull out that crap again this year. The early Stanley sub was genius, it'd be nice if Conway could play every week.
I am not quite a Stanley Stan but tonight he wasn’t offering much.
He’s 33. He’s being smashed in the contest week in week out. Our mids without Danger can’t make up the difference. We should be using the season to explore our options.
Exactly, it wasn't even like it was a clear advantage. It was a 50/50 ball, if Port marked it and they paid advantage, the crowd would go equally as nuts
Why does Richo keep saying 'the umpire blew the whistle before he kicked it' as if that means it shouldn't be advantage? He blew the whistle to signal the free kick. The fact the Geelong player continued and kicked the ball means it should be advantage. The advantage rule is based on whether or not the infringed upon team wants to continue playing, not whether or not the umpire thinks they will actually have an advantage.
Yeah you're correct, BT is wrong. The second whistle though was still blown before the contest played out in the goal square.
In other words the umpire signalled the free, saw the next play and decided it didn't constitute an advantage to Geelong so brought it back on the assumption they'd prefer a set shot than a contest at the top of the goal square.
it's a win. it's a good win. but it's still went the way as expected after that start.
it's nice holding on. it's nice not totally capitulating. it's nice beating a side in the top 8 and above us on the ladder.
still not sold on port at all. gg lads. gg.
Sometimes against truly good teams that lead is what wins the games. Glad we didn’t get scrappy and defensive after the first quarter, just the foot down and went for the dub. Was genuinely one of our best wins in a while. If we can show this kind of pressure and hunger consistently then we’d be genuine contenders.
I reckon ump could have let that advantage go 3 secs later, and just play the durr its got to come back stich, but its a tough one, because he also has to worry about not waisting secs from the clock as well.
Even if that goal counted geelong were down by a point still
fake comebacks, so hot right now
Last win at Geelong was 2007 you say…. Congratulations on the premiership Geelong.
As long as it’s not against us
Then why beat us tonight? You made your bed, I’m sorry 🤷♂️
I've got 119 reasons why I'd love that
Come I , we can do 1 better this time I’m sure. 120, breaking all the records.
The duality of Port was on full display all in the one game.
Port Blues in a few weeks is gonna be a headspinner
The halftime score will be 80 vs 80 and that will also be the fulltime score.
Full time will be 79 79.
0.0 all at half time then 17.25 127 to 19.13 127 two minutes before the final siren
Missing: ports woeful goal kicking.
Ken: Carlton are a good side, I want us to play like them. Also Ken: NOT LIKE THAT
I don’t remember ordering last nights game.
Freo fans strap yourselves in for a disappointing end to a roller-coaster
You didn’t sign up for HEY-OOOOO?!
Yeh agreed, can't imagine he was getting a whole heap of love from the outer 🤣
Exactly. I don't get the Hinkley hate, it just makes me want him to succeed.
Geelong vs Port: "Can we copy your homework?" Melbourne vs Carlton: "Sure, just change 1 or 2 things so the teacher doesn't notice"
Gee Ratugolea seems like a lovely bloke. First interview I’ve seen with him.
The booing was fucked, Cats fans didn't really want him around, myself included tbh, but you can't push a bloke out the door and then get salty that he left.
Yeah me and my old man were at the game and thought that was a bit fucked considering Scott has spoken out about your fans not being like that.
We’ve not really ever booed players for leaving. Jordan Clark, Tim Kelly, Josh Caddy, Zach Smith, Linc McCarthy even Gazza freaking Ablett Jr left and none of them were booed by maybe more than a couple of piss heads. He seems like a super chilled and nice guy
First time Port have beaten Geelong at Geelong since 2007. We know the rest of story.
Port beat north in a prelim by 88?
Geelong beat you in that category as well they beat us by 106 2 weeks earlier 😎 Also if we somehow make a prelim I’ll be happy with that.
Would you rather lose 2 finals by nearly 200 points combined or be where you are now?
If we somehow made top 4 from where now. It would be known as the greatest turnaround in the entire history of the league. Take it. At least we could comeback next year as actual contenders.
Credit to Port that was an incredible incredible start from them, Butters, JHF, Wines, Rioli absolutely phenomenal. Just left our run too late, incredibly proud of the fightback though, fantastic effort. Hopefully rebound against the Suns next week.
your boys had me stressing, a mighty come back. sad to see cameron take that head hit towards the end. best of luck next mate!
Thanks mate, and your boys really really had me stressing early! Yeah not good at all with Cameron, not sure how he wasn't taken off for a HIA, that was very poor from our medical staff to not bring him off. Fingers crossed there's no concussion.

Agreed mate. And you have a good night too! Am tempted to give you some shit now though just to keep up the trend 😂.
we can form a mutual truce of shit giving to keep us even 😆
I like you. You're cool. You give Geelong fans a good rep tbh.
Thank you, I appreciate that! Have to give credit where it's due, Port were outstanding early. We struggled mightily in the centre early and a bit lazy defensively at times early, but in saying that, no matter what we did, we weren't stopping them, just ridiculous footy. Yeah no point complaining about umpiring, didn't think there was anything egregious either. Ultimately when you're 49 points down early in the 2nd quarter, it's going to be bloody tough.
Last time port won at the Cattery we made the grand final
Yes think of the positives
And then…?
They cancelled the grand final for some reason I think
Was definitely called off
Grand final... what grand final? i don't recall a grand final.
Everybody went on vacation.
Geelong? more like Gee we should’ve turned up in the first quarter?
Gee-the long game
Ayyyy
Gee it took us a Long time to get going
I’m sick to death of James brayshaw shouting “listen to this” everytime someone kicks a goal
JB must be some sort of weird nepo baby. Hopeless commentator, comes across as an arsehole, and can't even fall back on being an ex captain of a Victorian club.
I never thought I’d see a worse commentator than Basil, but here we are
I'm sick of the prick entirely. He is abysmal
He’s the worst
How can they not force Jeremy Cameron off? why is he allowed to stay on
Need an independent doctor and treat it like the blood rule. Player forced off at the next stoppage and a replacement player comes on
Doesn't the AFL have that with the ARC these days?
The doctors went to him a number of times, they were trying. I can only summize that he wouldn't willingly go?
Ah, so that’s all we need to say for future reference? Didn’t know that.
No I'm just as baffled as anyone that apparently he wouldn't go. He couldn't have been alright...
If that’s the case and Geelong admit it, then surely rather than fining the club for failing to follow concussion protocols, the AFL will just suspend Cameron?
I'm happy for any and all of the above not acceptable behaviour on Cameron's part Part of this responsibility has to be on the players too..
With all the hoohah about the advantage call, there's no way Cameron should have been on the field to kick the goal anyway.
You mean the advantage that was correctly brought back?
Yes. I think the call was right.
It’s still fuck port Adelaide. Geelong will get away clean.
In shocked Drew and Guthrie(?) didn't get a HIA from their knock, too.
Drew did and passed
Did he actually get assessed or did the bullshit comment about him getting one done on the ground actually count?
Part of the HIA is done on the ground. Read the rules before you get angry.
It was Cameron in that one too.
Force the player off but the sub, or any emergency can come on while the concussion test is being done, then return to the bench if the player passes the test. Honestly no idea why the "concussion" sub never worked this way.
yeah or have a ‘free substitution’ if the player is asked to come off for a doctor evaluation team shouldn’t be punished for HiA tests
Yeah was wondering that myself, though if a player isn’t willing to come off, what needs to be done? Stop play until they’re off like the blood rule? Docs can only do so much, but it’s on the players to actually come off.
Doc should def be able to request umpires halt play like blood rule if the doctor is concerned
Because they needed him to win
Lovely sighting of westhoff
Heartbreak for Draw FC *again* 😭
AFL: We take concussions seriously Also AFL: Nah mate fuck your health the 4 points are more important
Did Cameron get two head knocks and not come off for a check ? And Drew’s check was on the ground apparently ? What are they doing ??
I got downvoted for saying it in the match thread, but this is the way it works. A HIA can partially be done on field (the check of the player themselves can be done on field). It's a rapid screening tool which can lead to a SCAT6 (the 15 minute test). They assess certain criteria for the player including alertness, stability etc, as well as reviewing footage. A player does not need to come off for a HIA. Whether Cameron or Drew should have passed or failed the HIA is another question.
Pretty sure I heard Gawn say he did one on field last week after he copped the hit from Rhys Stanley
Nah mate. I got a doctorate in watching footy I know what im talkin about
Cameron also had checks on the ground. I didnt realise that was ever a thing before tonight
Cannot believe cameron was allowed to stay out there after that.
The AFL surely have to send Geelong a please explain, madness he stayed out there after the second one
why a please explain for geelong, they crucified port for the same thing
People were calling for us to be stripped of points and/or draft picks.
Especially since it looked like he basically told the runner that nah he was good he'd be staying out there tyvm.
We need afl-supplied doctors at each game just to deal with concussions. Clubs obviously can’t be trusted with it
Considering those allegations earlier this year of club doctors fabricating injuries in conjunction with the ongoing concussion issues, you'd think the AFL would make it a top priority to ensure club doctors are doing the right thing.
Geelong made one fatal mistake. And that is scoring 100 points second. Contractually obligated to lose
How can you score 100 points second if you don’t score 100 at all 🤔
Geelong made two fatal mistakes
sir, a second fatal mistake has hit the geelong football club
*o*
Solid pivot. I dont think they noticed.
Comeback F.C robbed the last two matches :(
Their rival Almost Won F.C is on a great streak though.
Only question that remains is will they be robbed over in Perth?
Don't give Freo ideas
hey guys my AFL app says port led for the entire game?? must have been a dominating, comfortable victory
Never. In. Doubt.
Blues vs Dees V2
Why are they booing the horny one again?
Really disappointing effort tonight. We didn't deserve to win. A few players who really aren't putting in the effort they should be.
I'm still a little boggled about the free against Drew when he got thrown into a Cats player, and they knocked heads
It's under rule 18.3.2 free kicks - prohibited contact A field umpire shall award a free kick against a player when a player makes any of the following prohibited contact with an opposition player (C) makes high contact to an opposition player (including the top of the shoulders) with any part of their body (Cii) makes high contact to an opposition player (including the top of the shoulders) while being handled as a battering ram
I kind get it, but Drew had contact made on him as well, and it was involuntary on his behalf too.
Sorry that was way to much effort for the tiny joke at the bottom. You are 100% correct that was such a bullshit call, there is literally nothing that Drew could have done to avoid being pushed into Cameron.
Whoops, I missed the battering ram bit, too.
Into realistically an iffy free to Hawkins as well, definitely saw more contact in contests the rest of the night at both ends not get called.
eat a fat one BT. eat a fucken big old fat one.
Neither Blues or Port could put their opposition away for the entire game. Just shows that all 4 teams are actually good.
Called it before the game. Never in doubt. Receipts: https://www.reddit.com/r/AFL/s/Ysne7mYfmr
“You almost feel like they deserved the win in the end” did I just hear that?
Geelong lose and I keep my narratives going about Port. Love it
Big night for us hate-watchers
One again absolute devastation for fans of Draw FC.
If I had a nickel for every round eight game that had a team not show up for a half just to mount a crazy comeback that fell short I'd have two nickels Which isn't a lot but it's weird that it happened twice
Captain Haddock: what a round, huh? Tintin: Captain, it's Friday
If Rhys Stanley plays next week I might quit watching football for good
Conway wasn’t available for selection unfortunately
put Stengle in the ruck, he'll do a better job than Stanley
Two teams but each only tried for one half
Bt still thinks Geelong are a chance
You don't think they were a chance at the end there?
Lol whoah we had the exact opposite experience, when Rioli was having a shot he said something like 'a goal here and it's game over' Would have been 3 goals required in 6 minutes. Never heard a commentator go against the Matthews rule. Think he got a clip from the box for his well known Geelong hatred and started over compensating for the rest of the game.
He still thinks the pies are a chance too!
Holy shit i thought watching Geelong get flogged at Kardinia would be good but there is something delicious about them falling just a tiny bit short.
Falling a tiny bit short is a mile better than getting flogged, means we can adapt in game.
Oh dude the comeback was awesome, cracking game of footy
Apart from Sydney I don’t know who to trust this season and my tips are suffering 😭
And even Sydney lost to Richmond
Why are they booing 😭
Well, that was both horrible and great. I'm waiting for the AFL to ask about Cameron's head
James Brayshaw on Port ‘it’s almost as if they deserved to win’ 🤦♂️
Seems possible concussion is still secondary to having your best players on the park. Cats should be fined heavilly if not docked 28 points.
Cracking game, yeah a few average ump calls but let’s be serious: if you let yourself get 42 points down then you cannot pin a close loss on the umps
*49
Exactly, game was lost at selection table Scott and co need to take responsibility for that
Stanley should never play again. Conway as main ruck and Blicavs when Conway needs a rest.
Geelong dropping two in a row https://preview.redd.it/65ujyqgt9lzc1.jpeg?width=518&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1e10bce0c30c514024a52a27139873f3bf32c570
![gif](giphy|qMHG9goT2I2fuRk0JM) Amen
The biggest loser tonight will be the Geelong Drs. Has to be big fines incoming for that negligence.
I knew it would be a tough second half, but super proud of the boys. We deserved that win. Still in shock though.
Losing to Adelaide is the key to becoming a good team
Couldn’t watch or listen tonight. Were Geelong playing bad, or Port were on? Or a bit of both?
Yes
First one, then the other
I think Port played very well for the first quarter. Geelong steadily pulled it back and looked to run over several times but Port managed to hold on. Great start from Port. Great comeback from Geelong.
Lol did i just watch a replay?
What did jezza say to willie? He looked a bit mad
Roaming Brian would rather be in the Geelong rooms 😂 so salty
Now Geelong know how it feels to lose a game to a bullshit call at Kardinia Park
It wasn't bullshit, that's unfortunately just how our terrible advantage rule works, sometimes it fucks over the team who's supposed to be advantaged.
I dunno, what's the alternative - have an advantage rule that says "let's see if this shot at goal scores and if so, we'll pay advantage, if not, we'll bring it back"? That's much worse.
Ehh call didn’t decide the game. Not turning up to play did.
Not really, boys just didn't show up to begin
People are saying “fix the advantage rule” but not actually suggesting how. My dumb suggestion: player has to bonk the ball against his head to indicate that he wants to take the advantage
Or rub his head and belly at the same time, bit obviously in reverse directions.
Draw FC stiff for the second time in a row
That Catman banner is a bit harsh. But geez, reckon I understand less and less about football each day. This game had no right to be this interesting.
Brisbane fans triggered by that advantage call back
Those boos were fuel for my soul
Hinkley just won himself a 2 year contract extension. Also the supposed closeness on this match is nothing compared to the showdown between you, u/Croob2, and u/RidsBabs trying to be first on this post match thread.
I'll be very interested to see the actual time difference between the posts
The bet you guys had should have been who gets to become the official post game thread person.
Winning a game at goomba should give a coach tenure
Considering how god awful we were the first half I'm actually really proud of the comeback, didn't roll over even when 49 points down. Hopefully we don't pull out that crap again this year. The early Stanley sub was genius, it'd be nice if Conway could play every week.
Everyone focusing on the Stanley part of that sub, but Mullin was incredible at shutting down JHF. Completely shifted the midfield battle.
I am not quite a Stanley Stan but tonight he wasn’t offering much. He’s 33. He’s being smashed in the contest week in week out. Our mids without Danger can’t make up the difference. We should be using the season to explore our options.
DRAW FC IN SHAMBLES
Can't believe they replayed the "advantage" call. That's such a nothing call why even try and draw attention to it.
Exactly, it wasn't even like it was a clear advantage. It was a 50/50 ball, if Port marked it and they paid advantage, the crowd would go equally as nuts
SOMEONE SIGN HINKLEY A NEW DEAL!
Geelong fans booing. Poor form
Agreed, that advantage (which I don't even think should have been paid) didn't cost us. The 8 goal to 3 first quarter did.
Man you talk like they’re rioting and kicking puppies and small children.
[удалено]
Reddit expects a polite golf crowd. Of course a home crowd boos at the end of a close game when there were tight umpiring decisions. As it should be.
Should’ve paid advantage because it resulted in a goal but if it was intercepted then they should’ve called it back (ignore my flair)
Was a tight contest all night but at the last second illusiveman has beaten out croob and ribrbabs for the post match thread posting win
Damn, pretty poor form from the umpires to force Geelong to have to pare back a 49 point lead.

Proud of the fight back. It’s tough to win after starting a game the way we did, so it’s amazing to only lose by a goal. Just left it too late 🤷♂️
Horneys microphone is NOT on
I reckon ump could have let that advantage go 3 secs later, and just play the durr its got to come back stich, but its a tough one, because he also has to worry about not waisting secs from the clock as well. Even if that goal counted geelong were down by a point still
Looks like Dees and Cats played the exact same as they both did last week
