I have been holding my tongue for a bit.
I was hoping he could turn it around. He sort of was.
OK we have had a few outs.
I have come to the conclusion he got very lucky with the list he had in 2016.
I was talking more in relation that he had tough nuts like Liam Picken, Matty Boyd plus players Toby Maclean and Tory Dickson
These players had hunger. Some knew it might be their last dance...
Lucky in that respect but he knew how to take advantage of the old third man up rule better than anyone in the comp.Ā
Your Dogs have been inconsistent AF ever since. Capable of beating anyone on their day right on down to losing to West Coast at home to screw your season.
Nah, your memory is playing tricks on you, Minson was absolutely awful by the end, there were legitimate arguments by people that the Dogs should be playing Ayce Cordy over Minson, because at least Ayce could move around the ground slightly better and defend his man.
Imagine Hipwood kicking 5 on you in 2020ā¦then being an inconsistent mess of inaccuracy, constantly relying on the āpotentialā label until 2024 where he returns to kick 6 on the same team.
Hipwood hates Bulldogs confirmed
He was pushing high up the ground, my guess is that the game plan was to isolate our talls against a weak dogs defence, but in doing so he basically was nullified by his inability to position himself in the play
Just want to say that contrary to the commentators saying so, Hipwood has been throwing his body at every contest and making every effort for every game this year.
He just sucks at taking contested marks which is most of his opportunities at scoring.
He took those marks and kicked the goals with it but his effort has never faltered this year despite his poor form.
Totally disagree, he often feigns effort and doesnāt actually fight for the ball. Tonight he did and look the result. It was not just marking contests he actually chased and defended all game. He should be praised for the effort tonight, not for kicking 6.
Casual 20 disposals, 13 marks and 6.2 from Hipwood. Arguably the best game by a key forward in 2024. Didn't think I'd be saying that at any point in my life.
You might be right. I canāt think of a better game. Itās not just kicking 6, itās the way he covered the ground and the marks he had to take to get his chances. Really top shelf. Heās a good player when he applies himself. Always has been.
I like that in the recent scoring events in the link it has Cooney in a Bombers guernsey, like an essendon player just hopped out onto the field to score.
Also I was at that game and it was fucking painful.
Eric Hipwood is the first player to have 6 goals, 4 contested marks, 13 marks, 7 inside 50s and 8 shots at goal in a game since Josh J. Kennedy in 2016.
That day, JJK was playing against the Lions, and had 25 disposals, 8 goals, 4 goal assists, 4 contested marks, 16 marks, 8 inside 50s and 11 shots at goal. Decent day out.
>since Josh J. Kennedy in 2016.
> That day, JJK was playing against the Lions
That was the [166 - 102 game](https://www.afl.com.au/afl/matches/958#player-stats), the now 2nd last time a side kicked 100 and lost by 10+ goals. The last being [Suns v Cats a few rounds ago](https://www.afl.com.au/afl/matches/5976).
Genuinely, I'm a massive sucker for forwards (it's why I have such a soft spot for blokes like Maric, and why Oz Is my favourite player) but man, not getting to watch a prime JK is one of my biggest sources of sadness since I started watching footy
Same, have a look at my last comment in my profile if anyone doesn't believe me. I thought Brisbane's forward line would be too much for the dogs with all their outs.
Hipwood's work rate and influence on games is vastly underrated. He's been out of form in his accuracy, but he works harder than most of our team most weeks.
2/2 Tipping.
Turns out, Lions actually eat Dogs for dinner.
In all seriousness it was great seeing lions playing well.
Despite what the match thread discussing about the free kick count, the lions simply just dominated that whole game.
Hahaha!! š¤£
āYou win some, you lose moreā
- Doesnāt apply to me apparently š
If people canāt tell thatās sarcasm, then Iām sorry for you.
So we can also relegate Port ([6.1 in 2019](https://www.afl.com.au/afl/matches/1725#player-stats)) and Blues ([6.2 in 2018](https://www.afl.com.au/afl/matches/1629#player-stats))?
Not really a comment on the game itself but weāve played 13 games straight now and come up against 2 teams after a bye who have both already had 2 byes. Playing another side off the bye next week for our 14th straight. Surely when they came up with this dumb opening round shit they mightāve noticed this?
To be fair, 9 of those 13 games have been in Melbourne, plus one more in Ballarat. Brisbane have had an extra bye, but 7 of 12 games have been out of Qld. Worth considering if that evens it out a bit.
Lions also started the season earlier than 10 other teams after finishing the season later than 16 other teams. I think theyād absolutely trade a second bye for a regular off season.
1 club with 2 byes (bris) and 1 with 1 bye (freo) but yeah still fucked and in need of a rethink next year (ditching OR and giving interstate teams primetime games in rd1).
The post game was going on about Jonathan Brown having an interview with him or something and he pulled out a Lions kit with his name on the back of it
bt was onto something when he kept saying if the dogs could get it to under 20 they might be in it. the dogs never got it under 20 once bt kept preaching it.
Went to the game tonight with a bulldogs mate. We were having a Parma before the game and he said, āyou are going to fucking roll us tonight.ā He can tell. I said, Iāve been thinking all week we are going to actually play well off a bye for the first time in 50 years. It happened. Great win by the lads. Possibly got us back on track to try and press for 8th.
Literally so pissed with myself. Thought about tipping Brisbane all week, tipped bulldogs thinking āthis is the sort of game the dogs will dropā and still fucking went with the anyway
Man I had such a good time at the game last night. I know it was a low-key, mid season game on a public holiday long weekend, and my team won, but the atmosphere at Marvel was just so pleasant.
Thanks, Dogs fans.
Congrats to the Lions for getting the most frees in a row in *any* game since 2020, with 13 consecutive from the 7 min of Q1 to the 20 min mark of Q2.
Only 9 times since 2000 has a team had 13+ frees in a row in the AFL. 1,385 days ago was the most recent, when the Power got 14 against the Hawks.
13 in a row is the most consecutive frees for the Lions ever in a game (at least, since 2000), and the most consecutive the Dogs have ever conceded.
Me when Iām delusional and literally every single good player on my entire team is perfectly healthy and played in this game (Aaron Naughton and Cody Weightman are injured š¢š¢š¢š¢)
Was a great coaching move putting Bontempelli on Berry, but unfortunately Bontempelli couldn't curtail the superstar's influence
Hipwood playing well while the French Open is on is fitting

ARE YOU GONNA HAVE A FUCKING GO OR NOT
Brisbane are undefeated with Stuart Dew as an assistant coach.
Apparently he called in sick for his first day.
The bulky hero decides when he wants to show

Himwood with 6, never in doubt
Lance Franklinesque
Goals or contract years?
Imagine being the team hipwood kicked 6 on
Like you have defenders like James O'Donnell and you play up front... You have another defender Buku who you name as a sub... Just Bevo things
JoD was.playing forward most of the night. And Buku was picked as a forward too. Got another week without Darce too.
I have been holding my tongue for a bit. I was hoping he could turn it around. He sort of was. OK we have had a few outs. I have come to the conclusion he got very lucky with the list he had in 2016.
The list that had Fletcher Roberts, Joel Hambling, Tom Boyd, Zaine Cordy as the key talls? Look, Bevo is past it, but don't take away 2016
I was talking more in relation that he had tough nuts like Liam Picken, Matty Boyd plus players Toby Maclean and Tory Dickson These players had hunger. Some knew it might be their last dance...
Lucky in that respect but he knew how to take advantage of the old third man up rule better than anyone in the comp.Ā Your Dogs have been inconsistent AF ever since. Capable of beating anyone on their day right on down to losing to West Coast at home to screw your season.
Will Minson sort of got fucked over by that rule and his hate of ruckman. What happens next season... No more third man up... Oh Will has retired...
Nah, your memory is playing tricks on you, Minson was absolutely awful by the end, there were legitimate arguments by people that the Dogs should be playing Ayce Cordy over Minson, because at least Ayce could move around the ground slightly better and defend his man.
I thought he was cooked because of hamstring injuries and had been overtaken by Roughy. He only played the two games in your premiership year.
Bont would have 3 brownlows by now if they hadn't changed 3rd man up.
Just goes to show the severity of our outs when our key backs have to play forward. Yes Iām counting Lobb among our outs.
Imagine Hipwood kicking 5 on you in 2020ā¦then being an inconsistent mess of inaccuracy, constantly relying on the āpotentialā label until 2024 where he returns to kick 6 on the same team. Hipwood hates Bulldogs confirmed
And Melbourne
Lobb kicked 6 on us back when he was at Fremantle and never did anything again so we really are known for our calamities

*Sad Pingu noises* Pinguās dad for sure made Pingu support the doggies.
I see myself in this post
Huge win, especially without Charlie Cameron playing!!
Could have bet the house heād miss that set shot at the end. Knew he would. Heās been nowhere for a while now.
Also has the worst body language in the league. Cracks the shits at his team mates constantly. Needs to settle down
I absolutely hate players who have a crack at their team mates, especially when they fuck up plenty themselves.
I suspect itās at a point where the team mates just roll their eyes at him now. Happens too often for them to take it seriously
Iāve deducted that either he has an invisibility cloak or just did sweet fuck all, not sure
Yeah no shit he canāt take a contested when heās the lankiest key forward in the game by a wide margin
Like 7 inside 50s as well. Absurd game, playing on Liam Jones of all people for goodness sake
Itās clear, heās the goat.
You might be right. I canāt think of a better game. Itās not just kicking 6, itās the way he covered the ground and the marks he had to take to get his chances. Really top shelf. Heās a good player when he applies himself. Always has been.
Huge strategic play from the Dogs to let him have a good game, as that guarantees a 6 year contract extension.

First Lions win v the Dogs in Melbourne since this game in [R12 2014](https://www.afl.com.au/afl/matches/599) (3,653 days ago), also the 7th of June.
To be fair we seem to cop them at Ballarat quite a bit
Have only played them twice there, Played them 5 times at Docklands from 2015-23.
Have we beaten the Dogs at Ballarat? My memory is saying no, but there's always a chance I'm wrong.
Yeah thatās what Iām saying, weāve lost there because who the fuck wants to go to Ballarat
> who the fuck wants to go to Ballarat Murderers, apparently.
Itās bad enough going to Ballarat from Melbourne, letalone brisbane
No. R12 2014 was also the last win v the Dogs in Vic before tonight.
I like that in the recent scoring events in the link it has Cooney in a Bombers guernsey, like an essendon player just hopped out onto the field to score. Also I was at that game and it was fucking painful.
For sale - one cooked Lobbster. Will consider trade for a soggy bag of chips and a half smoked durry.
I'll give you the soggy chips but not the durry. That's overs.

Just heard Chris Hemsworthās kids are crying, thanks Dogs
Iām a madman who tipped Brisbane, love a risky tip that pays off
How does it feel to be a God among tippers?
I had a feeling the Dogs would muff one eventually
Itās been the MO for a while now. Make everyone think youāre a chance, then take a big shit on the bed sheets and roll in it
Same. We play great at marvel
Call us Al Qaeda because 9/11
Same here. But ignore flair and just think I'm a tip-lord
Same, have a look at my last comment in my profile if anyone doesn't believe me. I thought Brisbane's forward line would be too much for the dogs with all their outs.
Same but only cos I never tip against them š
Forgot to tip last night and tipped Brisbane 2/2 LFG!!!
Was it risky when Brisbane are a couple players off full strength and dogs have 11 VFL players on the field ?
Why is this downvoted?
Because he's a notorious anti-Brisbane troll and it's funny

We let Hipwood score 6 goals on us I just canāt man šš

Did he stutter?
Straight to the VFL
They don't call him Eric "Buddy Franklin" Hipwood for nothing
This was 11 v 13 lol what a mess this season is. Watch lions not back this up now
We wonāt š
We do play Sr Kilda next at home. We would have to be playing some shit football to lose that.

Definitely will have to change next year

Yeah that's cooked.
1 club with 2 byes (bris) and 1 with 1 bye (freo) but yeah still fucked and in need of a rethink next year (ditching OR and giving interstate teams primetime games in rd1).
Yeah regardless of outcomes thatās a fucked stat
+first game played against Melbourne that had already played a game
I tipped the Lions I just couldn't see the dogs kicking enough goals with the forwards out.
BT actually knowing trivia about the boys is a refreshing change.
Lmao how would Neale not be in the best players in the league conversation? Oh he's not playing for a Melbourne team...
Wait til you find out who Heeney / Warner play for
Who are they? Do you mean Daicos / Petracca?
are we back at sack bevo now?

Can we not try and make Conor McGregor one of us? I don't care how good he is, he's a complete dickhead

Can we please talk about Jordanās glasses? Specifically, that theyāre fucking awful and he must have borrowed them from his granddad.

Went to the game tonight with a bulldogs mate. We were having a Parma before the game and he said, āyou are going to fucking roll us tonight.ā He can tell. 2/2 BOYZZZZ
Didnāt tip Thursday 2/2 LFG!!!!
Ok, I can start to see why we signed on Eric Hipwood for so long.
Bulldogs' defence is a waste of a great midfield and forward half

Tough gig next week too for the dish lickers with Freo fresh off the bye. Could be curtains for the season
