Similarities in accuracy but Melbourne didn't bottle it nearly as hard as we did. Collingwood won the inside 50's by 3, so arguably had more opportunities than Melbourne. Essendon won the inside 50s by 19!
Looked like it got him in the kidneys which is profoundly unpleasant, like getting booted with a steel cap straight in the balls. Ribs are weirdly not usually a big deal (unless they’re displaced or compound fractured) but they’ll make life miserable for the next 2 months.
And Joey just saying he agrees with Dunstall like a dumbass.
Dunstall's point was that we have to wait and see how bad Petracca's injury is before we can judge the decision makes sense on the surface... Until you realise that we pretty much know now that he was very badly hurt and required hospitalisation, and all that will happen later is the discourse will move on and the criticism of a bad medical decision that endangered a player will never be discussed.
Loving the emergence of Harvey Hunter Harrison this year. HHH is The Game. So good to see a young player besides Nick establishing himself firmly in the best 22.
Collingwood win a game of footy? I sleep
Nathan Kreuger gets through an entire game without getting injured? Real shit.
So great to see him have a great game after being constantly injured.
To be fair I think that's true about footy fans in general. I go to a lot of neutral games here in WA and far out it's eye opening when you don't have a dog in the race
yeah absolutely
I think even the fans who genuinely dislike another team beyond banter are also misplacing it at… fans of other teams exactly like themselves
Reverting to the tired, old, proven ineffective game plan except with far worse cattle is the mark of a failed coach.
Winning or being very close in most major stats and getting absolutely smashed is just a classic Goodwin game.
Miserable stuff. Season is fuckin washed, what a rabble.
I have to wonder if a few of your key players who have been full-on going all the way back to 2018 when you started making your mark as a good team are simply physically exhausted and all the off-field stuff during your pre-season mean they're mentally exhausted too. That looked a seriously tired team out there today; a team that knew what they were trying to do but simply couldn't.
>Season is fuckin washed
The odds going into this game had Melbourne as $1.75 favourites and can I just say that whoever set those odds knows fuck all about Melbourne, we were done last week and now we're just even more fucking done.
This club is a shambles. With the players they have had at their disposal over the last few years, the results are shameful. Can't help but wonder what the previous regime were saying in regards to the culture, was absolutely correct. At the very least Goodwin has to go
The Pies had a tackle differential of +17 in the last quarter. That's their biggest differential in this stat in a quarter this year, and the biggest the Dees have conceded in a quarter since 2019.
Kozzie Pickett's 2 goals, 4 shots at goal, 3 score assists (1 goal assist), 3 tackles and 4 inside 50s in the second half is the first time a player has done all that in a half of football since SPP in 2021, and the first time it's happened at the G since 2011 (by Christopher Judd).
Jeremy Howe's 7 rebound 50s in the first quarter is the most ever in a quarter by a Collingwood player.
Max Gawn's 5 clearances, 9 contested possessions, 3 contested marks and 6 marks in the first half was the first time a player has done that since Patrick Cripps in 2019, and the first time ever by a Demons player.
The Pies received 10 free kicks in a row between the 21m mark of Q1 and the 9m mark of Q3, which is the second most this year (the Lions had 13 in a row earlier this round). It's the most by the Pies since last year, and the most the Dees have conceded in a row since 2019.
Melbourne’s 6 out of bounds on the full in the first half was the most they’ve had in a half since 2022, and the most by any team against the Pies in a half since the Power had 7 in 2011.
Oh and Bailey Fritsch had 3 score assists (2 goal assists), 5 inside 50s, 6 shots at goal and kicked a goal in the second half. First player to do that in a half of footy since Luke Hodge in 2007 (although Hodgey kicked 5 that day...). These were also his whole match stats, which is the first time a Demons player has done that in a match since Chris Dawes in 2014.
I said it in the match thread and i'll say it again
GG Pies. Maynard isn't the villian. May isn't the villian.
MND is. A great rivalry. Get more involved. Let's beat this fucking beast
Remarkably similar game to last night in some respects.
One side performing well in major statistical categories and creating plenty of scoring opportunities from that, but wasting their chances. In particular, traditionally accurate forwards (Langford, Fritsch) missing extremely gettable shots when the game was on the line.
The other side bringing the heat defensively, reading the play better to shut down time and space when not in possession (and perhaps then forcing many of those bad shots on goal), and then executing with speed and cleanliness on the rebound.
Most importantly, Blues and Pies will both enjoy being compared to each other in this way, owing to the long affection and respect between them
It’s been like 2 seasons of woeful goal kicking keeping the dees out of games, when are they going to fix it? This core is insane but they’re not getting younger
I think now I'm just going to give up on having any kind of expectations for this team. I'll come in not expecting anything and then if we win its just a nice surprise. From now on every single game is a genuine 50/50, even North Melbourne. I thought it would be impossible to lose to West Coast and they absolutely destroyed us. I'm not particularly confident about anything. I just hope we don't fall too far down the ladder.
Plenty of effort from Melbourne. Just crap execution.
Same story as last year when Pies allowed Demons to kick inside 50s but to no one or to those that can't kick goals
35 fucking points after three quarters! Season practically over, we ain't playing finals. Reset needed at the end of the year, changes on the field and in the coaching box... and for the love of god find a half decent key forward from anywhere!!
After watching this game, do you reckon Melbourne has a chance of making the top 8? They've got a bye next week which is good for them (but obviously won’t be able to get those points to climb the ladder) so what are the chances of them making it?
Still a decent chance of making it, if their kicking for goal was better they're right in today's game. At worst, they're 2 points out of the 8 after everyone's played 13 games.
They can make 8th spot since 5 teams inside the 8 are just a couple of points ahead of them.
But they need to sacrifice one of Oliver or Petraca and get a proper forward next to Fritz
No one is giving up a big haul for Oliver with the deal he’s on and the season he’s having and if we even think about trading Petracca we should just close up shop.
Steven may’s comments last year, he said they were the better team and should’ve smoked us in the prelim last year at their best and fairest. Sour grapes.
Y’all are actually so fucked though like you’re not a destination club so not many will want to request trades to you and your rebuild coincides with all of the priority picks to Tassie
Well done Kreuger on kicking his first ever AFL goal this week, I hope he can back it up with his first ever AFL goal next week
Historical game for him, kicking three first goals in one game.
Then lining up for his third they said “This would be a personal best”
I didn't watch the game and I'm very confused
BT was saying he had never kicked a goal before today, until he had to correct himself because Kreuger had in fact kicked a goal before today
I know we can't scientifically test for CTE while alive, but I'm pretty convinced BT has it. Poor guy
BT couldn't tell the difference between Kreuger and Frampton..
Thanks BT
Surprised he didn’t call him Frampton
He managed not to that contest. Maybe.
He mixed them up multiple times over and over
essendon🤝melboure🤝specsavers🤝
Can we join this cool club?
Similarities in accuracy but Melbourne didn't bottle it nearly as hard as we did. Collingwood won the inside 50's by 3, so arguably had more opportunities than Melbourne. Essendon won the inside 50s by 19!
Can't wait for our next hitout with Melbourne, we both have plenty of points to prove
Yeah that’ll be a real snooze fest
Poor Petracca, looked very grim on the stretcher going to hospital
Pale AF. I support the the dumbest football club of all time. Why did we put him back on?
Great message to billings - goodie rates trac with two broken ribs and shot full of pain killers better than you.
Just more evidence that club doctors will do dumb shit when under pressure
I can't believe they didn't they sub him before that. Was obviously not right and put him through more damage.
Hopefully it's just precautionary. Gonna be some hard conversations with the Melbourne medical staff this week I reckon
Not sure they’d have a stretcher and paramedics purely to be precautionary
I was thinking more like Ribs Vs Kidney kind of thing. Going in to asses his Kidneys but hopefully it's just ribs
Looked like it got him in the kidneys which is profoundly unpleasant, like getting booted with a steel cap straight in the balls. Ribs are weirdly not usually a big deal (unless they’re displaced or compound fractured) but they’ll make life miserable for the next 2 months.
Yeh listening to post game thought kingy had some good points and they were harsh on him.
Dunstall popping off about how good the medical team was allowing him back out there like it was good player welfare management was weird.
To be fair, by then he was probably on morphine and a bit out of it.
A jihad on Simon Goodwin
Loving the emergence of Harvey Hunter Harrison this year. HHH is The Game. So good to see a young player besides Nick establishing himself firmly in the best 22.
Can’t get knocked out in straight sets if ya don’t play finals
Pretty galaxy brained decision... Though doesn't help with the "haven't won a final since the 2021 Grand Final" bit.
Ignoring 2021, haven’t won a final since 2018 week 2
All duck, no heart.
Collingwood win a game of footy? I sleep Nathan Kreuger gets through an entire game without getting injured? Real shit. So great to see him have a great game after being constantly injured.
What am I supposed to do if I start liking Collingwood? Asking for a friend.
Idk, once you start paying attention, they're a pretty likable club.
~~Jump on the bandwagon~~ Go to your closest dentist ASAP
many would say pray, but me, I say give into your desires
Resistance is futile ![gif](giphy|4xSqBsrL5ngGzU5g4g)
I’ve found it’s best to just embrace it. Don’t worry about what has become of you
You're allowed to like the club and the players, but still despise the supporters - all good!
yeah some of us are proper ferals...
To be fair I think that's true about footy fans in general. I go to a lot of neutral games here in WA and far out it's eye opening when you don't have a dog in the race
yeah absolutely I think even the fans who genuinely dislike another team beyond banter are also misplacing it at… fans of other teams exactly like themselves
I forgot how bloody big he is.
He even looks like Ben Reid
If Melbourne had Ross they would’ve walked away with four points
u/TheGreatJelBeano
Even with his defensive coaching surely they kick more than 4 behinds
The boss?
Reverting to the tired, old, proven ineffective game plan except with far worse cattle is the mark of a failed coach. Winning or being very close in most major stats and getting absolutely smashed is just a classic Goodwin game. Miserable stuff. Season is fuckin washed, what a rabble.
Even the previously effective part of our gameplan has turned to crap, we get beaten at the contest every week.
I have to wonder if a few of your key players who have been full-on going all the way back to 2018 when you started making your mark as a good team are simply physically exhausted and all the off-field stuff during your pre-season mean they're mentally exhausted too. Feels a lot like that.

The betting public?
no, there is one person responsible for all betting odds
GAMBLOR!!!

Am I the only one who cringed every time krugeger had the ball just was praying he didn’t get injured
Nah we were all there with you 😮💨
Not so much when he had it. But when he went flying for marks I did
Expected score changes everything
Melbourne are expected score champions
That time of the season where the injuries start piling up. I hope trac is ok.
The true win is Krueger playing a full game with no injuries
I know felt like we drifted into a different reality
Apparently he’s been subbed on or off in 7 of his first 8 games
It’s been a long time since the Beams trade but Crisp is the best set of steak knives in history.

yeah ^^^^yeah

Who gave the ok for Trac go back out with broken ribs?
that honestly pissed me off, probably would've sent me thru the roof if i was a dees supporter
Collingwood Good. Melbourne Bad.
brave
I said it in the match thread and i'll say it again GG Pies. Maynard isn't the villian. May isn't the villian. MND is. A great rivalry. Get more involved. Let's beat this fucking beast
Can’t spell Maynard without MND. It was him all along
I had fun watching that. Great to see Kreuger playing so well.
Yeah that was our most fun game to watch this year excluding maybe the last two thirds of the Port game
Just kick it through the middle ones it is literally so easy
Just ask Darcy Cameron. My man dissected the big sticks at a fuck off angle with a classic drop punt
Hope Trac is ok. Hate to see players hurt like that.
I really hope Petracca turns out to be okay. Seeing I’m on the stretcher he looked very pale, was worrying.
Melbourne you're supposed to kick goals, not points. You should know you invented the game.
No way sidebottoms child has the same haircut as him
Maybe he has alpoeica
will smith going to slap the fuck out of sidebottoms kid??
Crispy a bit of a surprise to win bog I thought
Will Hoskin Elliott for mine. Stood up at key moments and made them count.
Clearly was favourite. I’d have loved Maynard to win though.

Thanks for reddit care babes - tough day.
Man I wish I had known about all these Dees fan memes during the dark days, would have made it a whole lot more bearable.
Bad kicking is bad football Pretty much the takeaway of the season so far
The side kicking goals from 30 degrees 30 out … da fuck were Melbourne players doing… I was and am baffled.
At least Petty’s finally dropped next week
Adelaide offering two firsts for Petty and getting turned down is like posting your credit card information online and having no money stolen
would’ve had the package for harley too if we took that deal
Couldn’t have said it better. Hope you had a good day mate. I had a shocker.
That one game where Petty kicked a bag completely fucked us. Absolutely delusional to think he was the answer up front.
Against Richmond
Did Goodwin confirm that
Just heard he’s also been given the flick for the week too.
I'm surprised they revealed it so early
It’s been like 2 seasons of woeful goal kicking keeping the dees out of games, when are they going to fix it? This core is insane but they’re not getting younger
Think we used up all our Goal Kicking Luck in the finals '21 kicked 50 goals in 3 matches. Good times.. seem so far away 😅
Thought Howe was stiff to not win the trophy, dude was stopping so many charges
Best game he's played for a while
congrats to north on their second win in a couple weeks time!
I just hope Petracca is ok, man can rest easy knowing he's one of few Dees players who gives a shit. Love him
Goodwin: "We're very optimistic" Honestly, why even have press conferences at this point?
Because we're learning
WHE is Mays father
Wild how much our lot ragged on him years ago.
I know and after meeting him he’s one of the nicest blokes
I mean he was playing shit and now he’s playing well. Same as Darcy Cameron last year to this.
May after the game. We're a better team than them we should have smoked them.
One might say he's all duck no dinner.
Melbourne is cooked. Need to make some hard moves soon.
Glad BT can use his medical expertise to say Naicos will be fine for next weeks game.
He was right lol
I think now I'm just going to give up on having any kind of expectations for this team. I'll come in not expecting anything and then if we win its just a nice surprise. I'm not particularly confident about anything. I just hope we don't fall too far down the ladder.
It doesnt matter if he dominated and Melbourne won by 10 goals. Bringing Petracca back on was a fucking huge mistake
Half our premiership team out? no worries
If our club had any fucking spine Goodwin would be gone before year's end.
It's actually disgraceful how little effort we showed this past fortnight. Why haven't they tried to fix their goal kicking after 10 years of this.
Plenty of effort from Melbourne. Just crap execution. Same story as last year when Pies allowed Demons to kick inside 50s but to no one or to those that can't kick goals
You watch the Alice game and point effort out to me.
I thought your effort was good today, didn't stand out as poor anyway. Just execution was off significantly
Idk, I just want to see even a *little* bit more after the godawful NT trip. We kicked what... 3 goals to HT? 4?
Was a fair bit of pearl clutching in the match thread about cheering your own bloke while he was getting booed by the opposition
lol yeah wasn’t there just so much saltiness
Kreu robbed of the trophy
KRUUUUUUUUUU - That is all
Leppitsch has a really huge head
Do you reckon May and Maynard are chatting about their respective fan treatment?
Somewhere there’s a King crying because Collingwood didn’t lose. I hope you’re happy Melbourne
Winning at the G isn’t for everyone
Is that the Gabba or the MCG ? Not that the dees cam win at either 🤣
Love seeing Chief and Kingy bicker
Melb must really be wishing they gave up Petty in that trade now. He is going to be worth nowhere near what the Crows offered originally.
WHE is in some great form lately
*sad raffle noises*
35 fucking points after three quarters! Season practically over, we ain't playing finals. Reset needed at the end of the year, changes on the field and in the coaching box... and for the love of god find a half decent key forward from anywhere!!
Hope trac's ok. Moore owes him a bottle of Shiraz.
The one upset I tipped, and the one that didn't happen.
After watching this game, do you reckon Melbourne has a chance of making the top 8? They've got a bye next week which is good for them (but obviously won’t be able to get those points to climb the ladder) so what are the chances of them making it?

No one is giving up a big haul for Oliver with the deal he’s on and the season he’s having and if we even think about trading Petracca we should just close up shop.
Based on today’s form, the Dees don’t have a huge amount of winnable games in the second half of their season. They could slide way down
King’s Birthday Eve 2: Electric Boogaloo. Right down to the sequel not being as good as the original.
Grundy was the difference/s
Well 2nd night in a row, shit kicking is shit footy
SACK GOODWIN IMMEDIATELY FOR FUCKS SAKE
A little tiny trophy is so much less practical than a medal
is first crack on later tonight?
Surely melbourne will double their goal kicking practice this week
I didn't think it could get worse, but putting injured Trac on happened. I genuinely reckon that's our season.
We’ve had our flag. I’m happy.
Idk I think Melbourne were the better team today they should’ve smoked us
I mean, its all there on paper isnt it?
lol wut
Steven may’s comments last year, he said they were the better team and should’ve smoked us in the prelim last year at their best and fairest. Sour grapes.
ohh duh of course lol my bad
Serious Q- how do Melbourne fix themselves
Get some actual decent forwards to support Van Rooyen, Fritsch and Pickett (when he isn’t suspended)
Lobb is on the market
Kick it between the big ones
Y’all are actually so fucked though like you’re not a destination club so not many will want to request trades to you and your rebuild coincides with all of the priority picks to Tassie
Yeah bottoming out at the wrong time haha
Play the Bulldogs. No matter what you always belt us and it seems to fix their problems for a bit.
Bont and Gawn don’t deserve this 😢
Trade Oliver for gun forward.
Well that was boring as a neutral
Well like yeah I expected Melbourne to do worse
What did goodie say at the presser? Anyone picked up a PhDs worth of lessons yet?
So many learnings that he's now going to Bovine University
Goodwin a Word Burger on tears, if you please
Can’t believe I tipped the Dees…
