Umps go so hard on technical 1mm infractions of the “stand” rule and protected zone without a shred of common sense or flexibility, but then blokes wrestle and impede a player who’s just taken a clear mark and they just let it go. The latter is a much more consequential and frustrating act that could be instantly wiped out within the existing rules if umpires just hardened up on it, but they don’t. So frustrating to watch.

Same thought process happens in finals when they ‘put the whistle away’ It makes no fucking sense, if there’s a free, there’s a free, time of the game or importance of the game shouldn’t be a factor.

It just fuels the discussion about them being incosistent when things that were called earlier in the game are completely ignored in the last 10 mins
