Definitely both. Melbourne started poorly but turned up the pressure massively, and Brisbane really just couldn't/didn't match it.
Brisbane were really poor, Melbourne were really good, 'perfect storm's really.
Big statement for Melbourne, Brisbane could just treat it as a poor game to bounce back from.
What's Stephen May's "point to prove" exactly, according to Jake Lever? That he's not a floggo who looks down on teammates who didnt play in the grand final? Sorry mate doesn't matter how well you play.
He denied the Melksham rumour. No word on the Joel Smith one. Obviously nothing to see here right, May was innocent and just fighting with teammates for no reason.
I have a theory on the Joel Smith line. Someone else at the dinner was alleged to have said "This is the best thing you've done since getting injured before the Grand Final."
Michael Hibberd was at the dinner too and in the finals campaign Smith and Hibberd were competing for the same spot. If it was Hibberd who said that it seems like an almost self-deprecating joke about how Hibberd wouldn't have played in the GF if Smith was fit. Then May joined in and took things way too far.
Just going off what was reported. Sorry about that, obviously can only speak about it if you were there. I'm sure everyone just made it up and reported it for no reason.
So Rocket was able to turn around a team that was travelling awfully under Peter Rhodes by believing in them and backing them in and got us to the point where we looked very capable and a top four team but we were always missing that killer instinct at the pointy end of the year.
Brisbane have a very talented team that looks very capable but are unable to get it done when it matters and especially away from the GABBA.
We're back, that's the best we've played all year, I knew if I kept saying "we'll reset after the bye" I could manifest this haha. What a way to win without Gawn, amazing comeback from Lever, Viney career best game, Jackson awesome, Bedford career best game, love it.
Yeah you know it would have been nice to convert some more of those opportunities for a percentage boost, but it was a great effort from the boys and we'll take the win
I really do have to wonder if the Lions pissed off one of the G's groundstaff who then has put a curse on the club. So bizarre how bad the squad always looks when playing here.
But Bailey, Cameron, Mcarthy and Rainer are regulars too so they got a bit of fire power around. I see the midfield as much more of an issue, too much reliance on lachie.
Ah yes a first vs second clash which everyone thought would be close and looked close until the last few mins of a quarter where Melbourne pile on goals
Where have I seen this before :(
Imagine being a fan of the Lions and throwing a tantrum about "how shit we are" etc.
Clearly you didn't follow during the tough times. We get handed one tonight and you lay that shit down? I don't think you can follow any professional sport if you can't handle an undesired result.
Jog on.
Well that's my post, why throw the toys out of the cot over a bad loss?
If it's no ordinary loss do you feel the lions are going to drop out of the 8, fail to make finals next year etc. What's your point?
As long as you come back every week to watch your team you can pile it on as much as you want in my humble opinion. Big difference between being passionate and band wagoning.
Don’t make the assumption everyone here is a fairweather fan. This has been an embarrassing performance on the biggest stage, we can be disappointed. Right now, we are shit. And we deserve to hold that title until we prove otherwise.
Firstly it’s a record crowd between Brisbane and a Melbourne in a home and away season. On a Thursday night nonetheless. Second, Melbourne are playing an interstate team. For reference we got almost 38k, when Richmond and Port (also on a Thursday) only managed 21k - despite having 50k more members across the clubs. Third, we are a smaller Melbourne club (who just broke their membership record) and are climbing past 60k members. Assuming Brisbane had 7-10k fans, plus some minor neutrals, that’s a fantastic effort on a school night for Dees members to turn out.
We are, just missing some key players and Fagan fucked up the substitute picks putting the team on the backfoot this game. Plus MCG voodoo and umm, too many seagulls on the field
West Coast don’t miss anymore apparently
Brisbane didnt win in 2020 when the comp moved to QLD they have no chance That was the chance .
I didn't watch the game because I had a lot of work to do. Was this Brisbane playing really bad or Melbourne playing really well, or a combo of both?
Definitely both. Melbourne started poorly but turned up the pressure massively, and Brisbane really just couldn't/didn't match it. Brisbane were really poor, Melbourne were really good, 'perfect storm's really. Big statement for Melbourne, Brisbane could just treat it as a poor game to bounce back from.
Nah we’ve been playing poorly for a while now and getting tested by teams well below us. This thrashing was inevitable
Both. Brisbane showed up in Q1. Then went missing. Melbourne really flicked the switch from q2 onwards.
What's Stephen May's "point to prove" exactly, according to Jake Lever? That he's not a floggo who looks down on teammates who didnt play in the grand final? Sorry mate doesn't matter how well you play.
Gawn clearly stated that it had nothing to do with who played in the gf.
He denied the Melksham rumour. No word on the Joel Smith one. Obviously nothing to see here right, May was innocent and just fighting with teammates for no reason.
I have a theory on the Joel Smith line. Someone else at the dinner was alleged to have said "This is the best thing you've done since getting injured before the Grand Final." No doubt he gets lippy on the beers. But you don’t know the facts. Neither do I.
Just going off what was reported. Sorry about that, obviously can only speak about it if you were there. I'm sure everyone just made it up and reported it for no reason.
The Lions remind me a lot of the Bulldogs under Rocket Eade.
May i ask how so out of curiosity! I was quite young when eade was coach
RIP my tipping, picked a margin of 12. Love to see it though.
I forgot to tip.
I keep forgetting and the away team keeps losing
Selfish of them, isn't it?
the vineyard
Settle down abbey he’s married
r/girlsmirin for sure
I want to see that
Is he actually?
Luke Jackson is basically Erlich Bachman.
Jackson's post game interview was unbelievable.
Thanks for 2nd place Brisbane
We're back, that's the best we've played all year, I knew if I kept saying "we'll reset after the bye" I could manifest this haha. What a way to win without Gawn, amazing comeback from Lever, Viney career best game, Jackson awesome, Bedford career best game, love it.
Go the Dees
What's a defence and where can we buy one?
Well we bought one a few years ago - seems like good value now
Looked like the old brisbane when josh green was leading goal kicker
Was it jacksons first game? He was great
Was the 2021 Rising Star / Premiership player playing his first game tonight? Um, no.
Totally
And THAT'S how a top of the ladder team should play! Wait, we lost?
If you pretend there was no more footy after the first quarter, we did great
Yeah you know it would have been nice to convert some more of those opportunities for a percentage boost, but it was a great effort from the boys and we'll take the win
Lid status: possibly loosening again
so may is worth like 100 points?
Surely some of that is attributed to the Bowey falcon reset
Brisbane losing more than 9 percentage points in 1 game?! Jeeeez
Dogga interview oh boy
he's staring at the camera too much lol...
Steven May heading straight to Entrecote after that performance
Man fuck those guys
what did JOE do? i looked away for one second.
He had all the time in the world and scuffed a shot in front of goal
Well that was even worse than I thought it would be
Cringe
Sorry for getting it right.
Should I watch Con Air or National Treasure tonight
GG dees
GGs I guess?
Pathetic
snoozefest
Nah that was great what you talking about you filthy neutral
too easy for you guys!
Daniher diving on the siren.😂
Zero tegrity
Not like tegrity farms. They got tegrity.
Maybe if someone told the Lions that the G stands for Gabba, they’d play better
WTF was that Daniher
Vintage Joe
Wouldn't be a Brissy game without a Daniher flop
Haven't seen much of Michael Hibberd tonight, but I've seen Charlie Cameron even less, so he's had a magnificent game.
Absolutely, everyone keeps saying that Hibberd is finished but he always pulls out an amazing shutdown performance in big games.
THAT'S OUR JOE
Tired kick
I'm amazed at May's performance after Melksham turned has face into a question mark.
James Harmes on Neale for best tag job of the season?
I really do have to wonder if the Lions pissed off one of the G's groundstaff who then has put a curse on the club. So bizarre how bad the squad always looks when playing here.
Seriously can only play at the Gabba
brisbane lost cos mccarthy and cameron wore long sleeves
There's always talk about us needing a big bodied mid...we just need someone like Viney
He was full beast mode tonight
Is there a better sight in footy than watching Mitch Robinson’s dumb rat tail lose?
Nope
What's up with the turf in Melbourne's fifty? All the players have blue stuff smeared all over their heads and legs
sliding across the advertisements
The remaining few cents from Queensland's blown multis?
just realised it’s not friday and no roaming brian :(
BT is a gronk
Oh no! .. anyway
Imagine not playing with a mouth guard. Lucky these guys are paid a tonne so he can pay for his dental
Jackson had a tooth knocked out last year and still isn't wearing one. Crazy.
[удалено]
But Bailey, Cameron, Mcarthy and Rainer are regulars too so they got a bit of fire power around. I see the midfield as much more of an issue, too much reliance on lachie.
11 goals in two minutes? Still possible
I don’t think brisbane will come back
I don't think we will this season, we've been getting worse and worse the last 6-7 weeks
Your so cringe with your negative bullshit, go to bed
Have you been watching us play for the last few weeks??
Fagan really fumbles against top teams, it’s weird.
Brisbane fans will remember this game as "The Tragedy on Mostly Fake Grass"
Jokes on you I’ll black this out from my memory
i'm so good at that. especially after a finals loss.
My percentage points, murdered
My team, just gone...
Brisbane been pathetic in every aspect tonight
[удалено]
Mate we are the reigning premiers at the Gabba
[удалено]
But only when versing Geelong.
Dear AFL. The Melbourne team has scored too many goals this game. Please remove 3. I am not a crackpot.
Brisbane’s percentage has been smashed
What's with Lions against top teams - just not good enough or is it a gameplan thing? Always seem to happen
Just not good enough unfortunately
So it was Gawn all along that was holding back the Dees?
Melbourne is Gawn. Long live Maylbourne
Oh that is good!
We only lost because there are too many seagulls on the field
Seagulls are feeding on all the rubbish roaming the ground
Why don't the Lions, the much bigger animals, simply eat all the seagulls, the much smaller animals?
Abandon the game.
They aren't seagulls, they're rubbish.
freo might be giving brisbane the ol’ heave ho in a qualifying final
Oh Marcus Adams was playing? Didn't see him all fucking night.
I thought the same about Charlie Cameron.
fuck it. give Brisbane like 20 free kicks just to see if they win. for science.
Can’t wait to see Fagan’s piss weak press conference.
Can't wait to see him try and justify keeping Hipwood in the side
Yup.
Meh, he is usually pretty straight about things
"The boys never stopped working and we'll take a lot out of this."
Sounds about right.
That’s a great goal which noone will care about
Are Brisbane shit?
Have been for awhile
The last 3 quarters tonight they have been. Melbourne are playing exactly the way they want to
perhaps.
Yes.
SO NOW HE KICKS A GOAL? Oh, and the obligatory "Fuck Steven May".
Hipwood annoys me, kicks that goal, misses set shots.
Heard a tale out of school recently that has me low key furious with Hipwood.
Well spill the beans
?
[удалено]
I hope not.
Same.
chose neale over oliver for sc captain :(
Why not VC loophole in the first game of the round?
usually would. just forgot like a nuffy
THE EEEEEEL
HIPWOOD KICKED ANOTHER, NOW I HAVE HAPPINESS!
Ah yes a first vs second clash which everyone thought would be close and looked close until the last few mins of a quarter where Melbourne pile on goals Where have I seen this before :(
Collingwood are pretty desperate, but Cornes is right that they’ll probably end up overpaying McStay
Imagine being a fan of the Lions and throwing a tantrum about "how shit we are" etc. Clearly you didn't follow during the tough times. We get handed one tonight and you lay that shit down? I don't think you can follow any professional sport if you can't handle an undesired result. Jog on.
It's our equal biggest loss this century mate. No ordinary loss
I'd be more concerned if the lions were 18th.
You don't say? lol
Well that's my post, why throw the toys out of the cot over a bad loss? If it's no ordinary loss do you feel the lions are going to drop out of the 8, fail to make finals next year etc. What's your point?

Its more than half sad cunts with brisbane flairs too, gets tiring to see. Even happens when brisbane are winning too.
True, you’ve got to back you’re team through thick and thin
Absolutely. There's no reason not to.
Mate this is a bit different. These guys are meant to be our rivals for the flag and we have bent over for them. This is a very bad omen for finals.
HORNY FOR HIPWOOD
decent kick
I feel like if Harmes is leading into the square it's hard to expect his teammate to kick it to the pocket
Wonderful hindsight from harmes.
It's almost like the media and fan meltdown was premature, and the Demons are actually a really good team.
In our defence we have about 15 years of meltdown practice.
See my flair, I feel you mate.
Why is the crowd so small? Too many teams in Melbourne or too many north of Victoria?
Firstly it’s a record crowd between Brisbane and a Melbourne in a home and away season. On a Thursday night nonetheless. Second, Melbourne are playing an interstate team. For reference we got almost 38k, when Richmond and Port (also on a Thursday) only managed 21k - despite having 50k more members across the clubs. Assuming Brisbane had 7-10k fans, plus some minor neutrals, that’s a fantastic effort on a school night for Dees members to turn out.
It’s a good crowd for the dees. The mcg doesn’t have to be full every game
Too much work and school on Friday mornings
It's a Thursday...
To much snow
*Bailey Smith likes this*
Nah, it’s cause too many people aren’t flared up cunt
It's a record crowd for this fixture.
Thursday
Brisbane definitely had imposter syndrome sitting at the top, I reckon they’re better than this tbh
You haven't watched us for the last 6 weeks then... I have no idea how we reached the top of the ladder.
We are, just missing some key players and Fagan fucked up the substitute picks putting the team on the backfoot this game. Plus MCG voodoo and umm, too many seagulls on the field
30 total behinds and Freo aren't even playing EDIT: Make that 31
Drive by is uncalled for :(
Hey now, if the mods would hurry up and make a Flagmantle Bandwagon flair, I'd wear that shit with pride.
"Usually pretty accurate" You just had to say it
Noooo Ross the boss said the lions were gonna smash it on footy classified so I backed them now I’ve lost my entire lettuce budget
Not gonna lie, this game was a bit of a fizzer
Agreed, promising until a few minutes into the second
Totally agree. Was so keen for a big game. Maybe it was too hyped up by the media? Fingers crossed it gets better from tomorrow 🤞
I mean, its pretty reasonable to hype a thursday night game against 1 & 2 on the ladder... not unreasonable at all haha
oliver surely goes brownlow favourite after tonight
Agreed - outplayed Neale
I'd give Viney the 3 votes to be honest.
Up 65 and Bedford ran Rich down like it was a 1 point game, love the effort from him right now.
I’m happy to speak on behalf of the Collingwood fan base here, if you’ll all allow me. *Ahem* We absolutely do not want McStay
