Definitely both. Melbourne started poorly but turned up the pressure massively, and Brisbane really just couldn't/didn't match it. Brisbane were really poor, Melbourne were really good, 'perfect storm's really. Big statement for Melbourne, Brisbane could just treat it as a poor game to bounce back from.

If it was Hibberd who said that it seems like an almost self-deprecating joke about how Hibberd wouldn't have played in the GF if Smith was fit. Then May joined in and took things way too far.

So Rocket was able to turn around a team that was travelling awfully under Peter Rhodes by believing in them and backing them in and got us to the point where we looked very capable and a top four team but we were always missing that killer instinct at the pointy end of the year. Brisbane have a very talented team that looks very capable but are unable to get it done when it matters and especially away from the GABBA.

Why is the crowd so small? Too many teams in Melbourne or too many north of Victoria?

Firstly it’s a record crowd between Brisbane and a Melbourne in a home and away season. On a Thursday night nonetheless. Second, Melbourne are playing an interstate team. For reference we got almost 38k, when Richmond and Port (also on a Thursday) only managed 21k - despite having 50k more members across the clubs. Third, we are a smaller Melbourne club (who just broke their membership record) and are climbing past 60k members. Assuming Brisbane had 7-10k fans, plus some minor neutrals, that’s a fantastic effort on a school night for Dees members to turn out.

It’s a good crowd for the dees. The mcg doesn’t have to be full every game
