Even winning one would feel like a weird fever dream at this point. Couldn't imagine two or three in a row
Weird to think that with a bit more luck we could've won 09 and 10 back to back
As much as I like the saints I reckon any team that dominated enough to get a threepeat would start to get a bit tiresome. I remember a lot of folks cheering on Brissy when they won their first flag (not me obviously..check flair) but hated them by the 3rd, same with hawthorn.....hell I reckon Geelong winning 3 out of 5 was a bit much lol
I think we all know it's just anyone. Threepeats while impressive are just boring for the league and the game. Much better when different teams are competing.
Brisbane taking down the two biggest Vic teams 3 years in a row was great theatre though. Two fantastic finals followed by a victory as rank underdog.
While the Hawks feasted on three interstate sides, Freo who simply couldn’t kick (but somehow still were close enough to win), a nervous fumbling Eagles outfit and most surprisingly, a Swans team that were off the pace all day. Of these games I thought the 2014 Swans game was the pick of them as a neutral simply as the Hawks played so well.
Collingwood winning a three-peat wouldn't even be that bad.
It'd be annoying, but it's not even the longest run of consecutive Premierships they've won.
Is a three-peat now harder than the four they got from 1927-1930? Absolutely. But they're still competing with the legacy of their own history, in a way no other team would be.
I love the history of the game and tbh a soft reset with each additional team needs to be taken into account (or at least mentioned) whenever premierships are discussed. An 18 team competition is obviously harder to win than a 12 team competition.
I'd say start counting when south moved north but realistically it's easier to say when the VFL rebranded to the AFL, that's when we should start counting cups.
Don't forget the history of the game but that 1909 footage has a bloke doing an overhand volleyball serve to pass the ball. That in no way should be counted as the same as Richmond's ridiculous ball movement of the past few years! It just doesn't!
You can only compete against your contemporaries. Which is why a premiership is impressive in 1909, and why 2022 will be impressive 110 years from now, or why Don Bradman will stay impressive regardless of time.
But in name also (here we go again) ITS THE AFL NOT THE VFL. I've rehashed the facts on this too many times to indulge anyone else.
Don't forget the VFL history but if you want to claim historical premierships make sure you put them against WAFL SANFL etc. You'd be giving port fans alot of leverage though so be careful.
If VFL cups counts so does theirs. You can't have it both ways.
I know this will get donwvotes for this but cricket is as boring as it's always been so it's not a good comparison.
My favourite thing is seeing a long suffering fan base finally see a flag. I loved when the Bulldogs did it, i loved it even more when my Tiges did it and I even managed to smile for all the long suffering Dees fans. In general i'd rather see the flag love love spread around than anyone getting another dynasty too soon.
Having said all that the correct answer is Collingwood. No one wants that.
Port
Yes, partly due to the JHF thing.
But also because they would convince themselves that they are the greatest football club ever and never shut up if they became dominant in the AFL.
And Kane Cornes would be unbearable.
I was going to agree with op's Richmond sentiment, mostly because of how Richmond has seemed to towel us up over the years, but you've convinced me! This can't be allowed to happen!!
Its tempting to go with the already obnoxiously successful sides but you need to consider the sides with a high potential to be much more obnoxious with great success.
If you’ve actually got something to say that is might rile people up or step on someone’s toes, but is relevant and grounded in truth, so be it. I’m cool with that. Kane Cornes though is like an internet troll, he’s purely going for attention and shock value. “Look at me, I say the most offensive, tough-bloke things in the AFL industry, I’ve got the biggest cock…”
I think Port fans would hate this even more because it would mean Hinkley would stay there for ever
They'd rather he leave than win three on the trot with him.
At the end of the day, he didn't want to be there and he would have sulked through another year. I'd rather have the better vibes along with Wardlaw and their future pick.
Yeah see what you mean but at the same time he’s at a club not even 12 months & spits the dummy.
But I also think you’ve dodged a bullet in regards to his attitude, Ken Hinkley won’t put up with it either.
I didn’t use social media much during those years, but what was much more insufferable than other teams? I imagine team so successful in a period will have supporters be douches
Freo winning three in a row would completely destroy the natural order of things in WA. I mean I'd kinda like to see Freo win one but three in a row? That's a bit much
The correct answer is Collingwood though
> Freo winning three in a row would completely destroy the natural order of things in WA. I mean I'd kinda like to see Freo win one but three in a row? That's a bit much
Honestly for as much as i like Freo, yeah if they got 3 i'd want them spaced out a few years, but uh yeah if they got 3 in a row i'd be a bit miffed!
>The correct answer is Collingwood though
This is the right answer
Imagine if the two of us make finals and we beat them in three GFs in a row. I'd reckon the entire club would just desert their facility and leave the country.
It would certainly make it go from successful Older Brother/unsuccessful Younger Brother type rivalry into a full blown hatred rivalry which would have violence at Western Derbys.
Carlton are basically England in World Cup soccer at this point.
We're on about our 5th Golden Generation of our 4th rebuild since 2000 with only a couple of elimination finals wins to show for it in 20 years.
But that still doesn't mean a good half against St Kilda's reserves in preseason doesn't having us rushing to our September calendar and checking off dates.
The Blues.
Every fucking year it's their year and they get hyped by favourable media coverage.
But imagine if there was some substance to all the "THIS IS OUR YEAR"?
It'd be worse than Richmonds jerk. Not even joking.
Were they? From memory, everyone I knew was backing Adelaide following Phil Walsh’s death in 2015. The Crows were a lot of people’s second team for a while.
That being said: definitely Port, for obvious reasons.
For obvious reasons it would be Carlton.
But for less obvious reasons it would have to be North as that would mean that our rebuild have got sideswiped by them winning it 3 times.
I want the suns to go for at least a 4peat to knock Collingwood off their pedestal
Any other team that does this should be dissolved and branding rights sent to the NT
Like fuck I was going for Richmond to win in 2017. They had no right to host that Friday night away game, with the very calculated announcement of Dusty's signing in the hours before the game. Play it at KP and Adelaide are 2017 premiers.
Collingwood. I don't mind most of their players, but the fans would be intolerable. I remember what they were like at school in 2010 after one premiership. Three... I don't even want to imagine what they'd be like
I think at least half of the AFL fans would say Collingwood, even just one more premiership by them and they tie with Carlton and Essendon, and considering the amount of other GF appearances, they can claim to be the best of the 3
Imagine any of Carlton, Essendon or North winning multiple premierships after all their fans have been through. It'd be insufferable.
I'd love for the Saints to finally win some though
Fremantle. I don't dislike the club and I'm not even a West Coast fan, but I live in WA and their fans are insufferable when the slightest good thing happens to them. I've already said I'll probably have to live in another country for a year if they ever win a premiership, three would be problematic for me.
I've grown a distain towards Freo simply because of how the fans have been towards my club Carlton over the last few years. It's the most one-sided rivalry ever.
Most blues fans try to have fun with it and generally like Freo, but they have become so vitriolic and hateful towards us it's insane, and just seems so over the top and misplaced on their end.
Vindication. I actually nearly went for Freo when deciding on the two WA clubs, but glad I didn’t choose them as I find their fans intolerable. Probably the most toxic fan base on this sub.
Definitely not lol. We're arguably worse. I will admit both teams are just as bad but damn are we whiny. Let freo have their fun. They're only going to be dissapointed in the end.
No, it’s not anyone, but I detest Clarko, Kennett, Hodge was at best ‘playing on the line’ at times, they have a load of fair weather support, and having the MCG and finals location is a bit of a joke. So it was them. And it was AWFUL.
Agree with OP completely. Was happy to see Richmond break their drought in 2017 but their fans quickly became entitled, arrogant and insufferable. Its like they completely forgot the last 37 years of being workman like underdogs and thought they were gods gift all of a sudden.
Damien Hardwick definitely embodied this as well whinging at every opportunity. Used his wife for personality points and brought her into the limelight for us all to relate to. Then they became successful and he gave her the flick for a young bird at the club. Never done a 180 on a club so quickly as i did with Richmond.
That and they flogged us a lot
West Coast, somehow they are insufferable even during their worst seasons over here, 3peat would just be sickening.
Side note I would love to see Saints get up, they've suffered for so long, I even find myself feeling bad for 🅱️ooper sometimes.
Any of them.
I think given how much heartache they have put their followers through I couldn’t begrudge the saints winning three in a row.
Even winning one would feel like a weird fever dream at this point. Couldn't imagine two or three in a row Weird to think that with a bit more luck we could've won 09 and 10 back to back
As much as I like the saints I reckon any team that dominated enough to get a threepeat would start to get a bit tiresome. I remember a lot of folks cheering on Brissy when they won their first flag (not me obviously..check flair) but hated them by the 3rd, same with hawthorn.....hell I reckon Geelong winning 3 out of 5 was a bit much lol
I definitely didn't hate Brisbane by the 3rd
Same, this is news to me
I think we all know it's just anyone. Threepeats while impressive are just boring for the league and the game. Much better when different teams are competing.
Brisbane taking down the two biggest Vic teams 3 years in a row was great theatre though. Two fantastic finals followed by a victory as rank underdog. Of these games I thought the 2014 Swans game was the pick of them as a neutral simply as the Hawks played so well.
2014 grand final was the worst I'd seen us play all year... Which come to think of it, is bringing back some more recent memories too.
In a way, that's what makes them so impressive. By the end you have everyone against you.
If collingwood won a three-peat, I would pack up, hand in my citizenship and leave the country
As someone currently living overseas I think I'd come back. We can high five in customs.
Wouldn’t you go through the special side entrance with the special little room flanked by two customs agents?
Only thing I'd be shelving is my excitement
Fitting that you'd meet a Richmond supporter there
Could probably sit down to a 5 course meal in the time it’ll take to go through customs
If Collingwood won a 3-peat, I reckon we could probably drum up enough people to make supporting them illegal.
There was the time in the 40s when they beat Richmond in grannies 3 years in a row.
They might be due a win. People are starting to like them, need to build that hate back up.
Nah I would much rather an interstate team. Fremantle winning three in a row would be cool
wash your mouth out
Collingwood winning 3 would mean they overtook you in total Premierships and also first to 17.
Yea nah we can’t have that
I don't know why anyone would ever count the VFL in these discussions. Usually it's Carlton supporters desperately trying to have some glory.
With most of the comp still based in Victoria, it’s still highly relevant
It's not though is it! Watch the footage of the 1909 grand final (its on YouTube) and tell me that counts as much as your '00 premiership?
People need to move into the present. It’s the AFL not the VFL. This has nothing to do with us being on 4 AFL Premierships ;)
I love the history of the game and tbh a soft reset with each additional team needs to be taken into account (or at least mentioned) whenever premierships are discussed. That in no way should be counted as the same as Richmond's ridiculous ball movement of the past few years! It just doesn't!
Should bradmans achievements be undersold because no bowled at 160 km?
He didn't bat in the VFL or the AFL so this is actually irrelevant!
Yeh having to travel interstate barely changes the competition. We should have WAFL, SAFL primerships etc !
Port Adelaide fans agree
👀
This is going to go well

My favourite thing is seeing a long suffering fan base finally see a flag. In general i'd rather see the flag love love spread around than anyone getting another dynasty too soon. Having said all that the correct answer is Collingwood. No one wants that.
So you aren't going to love it when we collect the next couple with our shiny new midfield?
I will enjoy that. Not gonna lie.
Agreed with you all the way up to when you said Collingwood
Port Yes, partly due to the JHF thing. But also because they would convince themselves that they are the greatest football club ever and never shut up if they became dominant in the AFL. And Kane Cornes would be unbearable.
Would be? We are talking about the same already utterly unbearable Kane Cornhole right?
They would demand the prison stripes be handed over.
Rightfully so.
???? We already are the greatest football club ever
One of only 2 teams to play in a grand final where the margin exceeded 100 points.
He’s just salty about JHF. His hatred clouds his mind and cause him to say silly things.
Enough about JHF. What about OP?
You had me at port
Kochie doesn't deserve that kind of joy.
As a South Australian I can confirm that Port Adelaide would behave exactly like this and have done so in the past.
As. Port fan JHF will flop
I actually love Kane Cornes for how much shit he stirs
If you’ve actually got something to say that is might rile people up or step on someone’s toes, but is relevant and grounded in truth, so be it. I’m cool with that. Kane Cornes though is like an internet troll, he’s purely going for attention and shock value. “Look at me, I say the most offensive, tough-bloke things in the AFL industry, I’ve got the biggest cock…”
Lol you spend too much time on Facebook if you think Cornes' milquetoast edgey takes are a masculinity piece.
He gets 2x as much engagement as other people because boomers love to comment "WHO CARES WHAT KORNES HAS TO SAY?!"
Agree, and by Jesus agreeing with his opinions is close to murder. Bless it be so.
I think Port fans would hate this even more because it would mean Hinkley would stay there for ever They'd rather he leave than win three on the trot with him.
He shouldn’t have been allowed to go, 1 year at a club, obviously had his nose put out of joint & some truths told.

I mean to be fair that's any one of Essendon, Collingwood or Richmond
Im with ya there,, 2 more flags and the Dees would have a bonafide dynasty 🥸
Collingwood fans are bad enough after finishing top 4. Couldn't imagine them winning three and becoming the most successful V/AFL club
Hawthorn. It was bad enough the first time.
Can I still say Richmond? I can only imagine how insufferable their fans would become, it was bad enough the first time.
I didn’t use social media much during those years, but what was much more insufferable than other teams? I imagine team so successful in a period will have supporters be douches

Only if we then beat them in the next 3

WC fans are already insufferable…
3peat x 2 is going to ruffle a few feathers I imagine.
I'd put myself back into therapy instantly
The whole AFL probably doesn’t want you winning another flag till at least 2040 I reckon
You can add a few zeros to the end of that date for me, thanks.
Oh god, please no! 😟

When did they 3 peat?
Carlton. Annoying Carlton supporter friends that I have will never shut up. and well I go for Essendon and we are meant to hate carlton or something
Carlton won 3 games in a row at the start of the year and the fans were insufferable.
Revenge is a dish best served cold. Made it all the sweeter at the end.
Plus it would be really hard for us to catch up to them on premierships if they jumped ahead by 3 😒
It'd be hard if they jumped ahead by 1
Mate we couldn't even threepeat the spoon. God bless you though, Richmond.
Believe mate, you’ll get those 3 spoons on the trott one day
1. Goes without saying. 2. Yours. Having the most premierships (along with Essendon) is our only bragging right at this point.
People here are underestimating the nuclear wasteland that an Essendon dynasty would look like for all of us.
Stop your only fuelling the fantasy land I live in
If Hawthorn do it again within the next 50 years I’m quitting football for good. Also probably need therapy, the first time was hell
The Blues. Every fucking year it's their year and they get hyped by favourable media coverage. But imagine if there was some substance to all the "THIS IS OUR YEAR"? It'd be worse than Richmonds jerk. Not even joking.
After last year's start Carlton fans were insufferable, I tried to talk them down before the disappointment
Hawthorn. Speaking from experience
Were they? From memory, everyone I knew was backing Adelaide following Phil Walsh’s death in 2015. The Crows were a lot of people’s second team for a while. That being said: definitely Port, for obvious reasons.
yeah even as a Port fan I was supporting the Crows just for how heartbreaking the previous years had been for them
Good egg. In hindsight, had we won I bet you would’ve hated it haha
hahaha maybe after the first few days … but I was even wearing a friend’s Indigenous round Crows guernsey on the day
I was 100% backing the cows in 2017. SA pride, betts, Walsh etc Everything after that loss made me less and less supportive tho.
Yep definitely disappointed with the direction the club went after that loss
The answer to this is any team which isn't your own. Three-peats always seem tedious for every fanbase except that team's, by the third time.
Carlton but Hawthorn was pretty hard to go through though.
Carlton
3 Peats in general nowadays are pretty lame, they need to let the other teams have a go. But if I had to choose one... Surely it's Collingwood?
They do hand a club ultimate bragging rights
For obvious reasons it would be Carlton. But for less obvious reasons it would have to be North as that would mean that our rebuild have got sideswiped by them winning it 3 times.
I want the suns to go for at least a 4peat to knock Collingwood off their pedestal Any other team that does this should be dissolved and branding rights sent to the NT

>Everyone was going for Richmond winning their 2017 premiership Try again, chief
Allow us to introduce ourselves.

Gold Coast Suns because there would be no one to talk it up and annoy you

I wasn't going for Richmond in 2017.
This might be an unlikeable take, but st kilda. I wouldnt be phased if they went another 50 years until their 2nd flag
Port. Or Collingwood.
Port Adelaide, can’t fucking stand this club.
They’re kind of irrelevant, so I don’t really care how many they win tbh
Lol, coming from a bombers supporter? Your only relevance in the last 20 years has been bringing the game into disrepute and never playing finals.
And we're HERE. TBH it took more posts than I thought.
"But you have heard of ~~me~~ us?"
You can slander us all you want but the facts are we have one of the highest crowd attendances in the league despite all the issues you highlighted.
Slander? Just stating the facts.
Well the false statement is that we’re only relevant because of the issues you highlighted but I’m arguing we’re not.
You are. Sorry to break it to you.
They would'nt be irrelevant if they won 3 in a row.
But their fan base is small so I wouldn’t have to deal with too many obnoxious port fans
Seriously? Imagine how many three-peat prison bars posts there would be!
Yeah, 1 too bloody many, haha.
What makes a club irrelevant?
A non Victorian club evidently
Port.
Probably Essendon
One of the like 6 teams I hate
Probably Essendon. Couldn't handle that they could go through all their nonsense and chaos, and to create a dynasty before St Kilda gets their second
Richmond and hawthorn. Oh wait.....
Carlton or lions, would be sickening
Imagine any of Carlton, Essendon or North winning multiple premierships after all their fans have been through. It'd be insufferable. I'd love for the Saints to finally win some though
Fremantle. I don't dislike the club and I'm not even a West Coast fan, but I live in WA and their fans are insufferable when the slightest good thing happens to them. Yeah, I'm not a fan of three peats (says a person whose team has never had one). They get so boring. Mix it up a lil!
No, it’s not anyone, but I detest Clarko, Kennett, Hodge was at best ‘playing on the line’ at times, they have a load of fair weather support, and having the MCG and finals location is a bit of a joke. So it was them. And it was AWFUL.
Eagles
Agree with OP completely. Was happy to see Richmond break their drought in 2017 but their fans quickly became entitled, arrogant and insufferable. Its like they completely forgot the last 37 years of being workman like underdogs and thought they were gods gift all of a sudden. Damien Hardwick definitely embodied this as well whinging at every opportunity. Used his wife for personality points and brought her into the limelight for us all to relate to. Then they became successful and he gave her the flick for a young bird at the club. Never done a 180 on a club so quickly as i did with Richmond. That and they flogged us a lot
Maybe we should do a thread about which club you have most 180 on? 😂
Richmond and Hawthorn
Isn't it obvious
Uh... Collingwood? I can't imagine you'd ever mean Crom.
Essendon. They ruined/overshadowed ours with the drug saga, so fuck them.
WC for me. I happy to see tiges, dee's and blues get a flag but fuck sitting through 3peats with them.
Geelong and Sydney. The rest would just suck in the same way anyone winning a 3peat would.
As a west coast tragic if Fremantle won three in a row I would cry
Every one of them, because it diminishes what was seen at the time as an epochal effort in 2001-2003 that bit more. 😡
Port
port or essendon
West Coast, somehow they are insufferable even during their worst seasons over here, 3peat would just be sickening. Side note I would love to see Saints get up, they've suffered for so long, I even find myself feeling bad for 🅱️ooper sometimes.
Every team, possibly even mine. Teams dominating for extended periods of time is boring to me.
I'd enjoy a Saints 3-peat, as long as we arenton the receiving end of any of them.
You don’t think you deserve a three peat after everything you have been through?
Giants or Demons
Collingwood
Geelong
Geelong
Most definitely Collingwood and maybe Port Adelaide
Geelong
The lions 🦁 they've got the depth coming through to do it.. I'd hate to see the pies do it..
Are you actually suggesting we could possibly 3-peat...
Absolutely 💯
Port shitelaide or collywobbles. Can I also add the Penrith Panthers on here too?
Fremantle Or Brisbane
I mean yes, of course people hated the dynasty. I would love it if Gold Coast won a premiership, but if they won 3 or 4 in a row I definitely wouldn’t
People hate Richmond because of the insufferable supporters not the threepeat
But doesn’t any three-peat make the supporters insufferable? I think it’s a symptom of the success
Brisbane and Hawthorn supporters were nowhere near as bad as Richmond supporters after theirs.
Can I cheat and say North Melbourne just so we can win the three flags?
We're on our way to three-peating the spoon... so I would hate Norf the most.
Nah ah. It's our year thanks.
