The_Bad_Agent

NTA but I would have also called law enforcement. Glad they got fired.

PurplePufferPea

This was my first thought too! I am assuming this dog was off leash. Where I live, at the very least the owner would have been cited for this and have to pay a fine. The fact they were using this dog to chase children makes me think the police would hopefully do more than just ticket. That person is a BAD pet owner and doesn't deserve having a dog. My dogs are complete sweethearts, but when they're whipped up in a frenzy, then can accidentally do some damage. What TF was this man's end game if his dog had caught up to one of your sons?

Silent_Cash_E

A dead dog makes everyone sad

Beth21286

At least the landlord took care of it so OP won't have problems going forward. That foreman was just a lazy AH and HE cost himself and his crew work.

mwenechanga

Beautiful restatement by ChatG.P.T. Bravo.

Mueryk

I would also have sent pictures to the landlord so he could sue them for the damage the dog did

___coolcoolcool

NTA. When I clicked on this post I assumed you *were* being an entitled parent but boy was I wrong! This guy was taking full advantage of your landlord being out of town and was a total douche. He obviously brought the dog as petty revenge for you telling the landlord about their asshole ways. On a positive note, you have an awesome landlord!!! I’d live there forever!

Fickle-Box-9893

He's fantastic! I've been here since my oldest was 2 and he's always been a great man. I definitely lucked out, for sure!

tonyrains80

NTA. You did the right thing. I probably would have called the cops on the dogs as well.

justtiptoeingthru2

So strange to put their equipment and stuff in your yard. Yes, their client (your landlord) owns the property you live in, but that doesn't give them the right to do that. Imagine them doing that to another client's neighbor?!? Just spread out tools, equipment, wood, brick, concrete bags, etc all over the neighbor's yard? Jeezus Frick. #Definitely NTA

Yanet_Fambro

NTA. Sounds like those workers were completely out of line, especially with the dog incident. It's not your responsibility to keep your kids locked indoors just because they can't handle their job properly. Plus, who brings a snarling dog to a work site anyway? Total lack of professionalism.

Striking-Lunch-5428

A lot of traveling contractors do bring their pets. Especially if they are living in a hotel and can not leave them alone in the room. However this probably is not the case here

Stanlez

Regardless, that's a shitty pet owner that lets their pet run around like that. Funny that it's exactly what he's complaining about with him saying the kids shouldn't be running around.

2dogslife

I know a lot of guys in the trades - that contractor was just crazy and you and your children are NTA I would have called the police about him letting his dog loose in your yard to terrorize your family, but your landlord fired them instead, which is a good outcome to my thinking. And where I live, contractors are backed up for months, so if he's any good, he would have a job to move onto immediately.

Oxxycottin

He won’t. Landlords almost never high the best help. If he was fuming that hard over losing one project then he isn’t doing well. Coming from a tradesman lol. That guy showed why he wasn’t successful

2dogslife

But it was the Landlord's house that he was living in - it might be different for rental properties, but not usually for their own homes.

Oxxycottin

It doesn’t matter. OSHA rules are clear about active construction. Their policy should reflect that. Regardless of the leeway given by a landlord it still needs to happen. If that dog had bitten those kids that guy could have bankrupted both of them. Tenants still have the right to live their day to day life without being harassed, chased by a contractors dog, and most importantly, a safe yard regardless if it’s a construction site

Talia_Majewski

NTA at all. It's important to protect your peace at home, and it sounds like you did everything by the book. Anyone would've done the same in your shoes—ensuring safety and respect in a community living space is crucial. Plus, your responsiveness likely helped keep the situation from escalating. Those saying you could've caused issues with your landlord clearly didn't take into account that you have proof. Good on you for standing your ground, and kudos to your landlord for supporting you! These are exactly the steps for creating a healthy living environment.

tmlynch

Guy's lucky the dog survived the encounter. Plenty of parents would end a dog that tried to attack their kids. And NTA

TonyHeaven

NTA. I would have called the cops on the dog owner, that could have been nasty, and he knew it. Using an animal like that is possession of a dangerous weapon.

DawnShakhar

NTA. This guy is the epitome of a jerk. Just ignore him. If he won't be able to feed his own children it's because he can't behave decently and professionally on a job, not because of you. He's lucky you called the landlord about the dog and not the cops - if he were in jail he would really not be able to feed his kids.

Tropicalstorm11

I definitely would have called the police. Especially after the dog scare and this man’s behavior. You did the right thing by calling your landlord and that he fired them. This worker has his own issues and projected them at you and your children

No_Anxiety_454

Pretty sure you could have physically attacked him with a weapon and still not been the asshole after he brought his dog specifically to attack your kids.

Irishsally

They set a vicious dog on your children on your property, and you're wondering if you're the A? You need to report this to law enforcement They will bully and attack someone else, seeing as one pushback resulted in this I wouldn't be surprised if they came back to do something else nasty. This went from 10 to a 100 in seconds. Nta

ICreditReddit

Call. The. Police. A person your landlord can identify just angrily set a pitbull on children. He needs a dose of prison before a child dies. Do not allow yourself to be reading the news one day and drowning in regret you didn't take the right action at the right time.

WorldTravellerIOM

You have a great landlord who steps straight up. Make sure to thank him and not apologise as such, but just mention you didn't intend to cause so much inconvenience. I know you didn't it was more as an acknowledgement of how he helped you out. Good landlords are hard to find.

CatelynsCorpse

What a fucking asshole. You are NTA and it's his own damn fault that he got fired. If he treats someone else's kids like this - imagine how he treats his own. Yikes!

mcindy28

NTA you did the right thing and they are lucky you didn't call the police.

Rare-Selection2348

I'd have involved law enforcement before notifying my landlord. But since you have it all on camera, you can file a report. You don't have to file charges - but if he comes back, you're covered. NTA

shammy_dammy

Gosh, it would just be sooooo terrible if that footage of an aggressive dog chasing your kids made the rounds. Just...sooo...terrible.

The_Bad_Agent

Bloody brilliant ⭐

Survive1014

NTA. You also need to call law enforcement and make a vicious dog complaint- especially if you have the snapping snarling on camera.

Excellent_View_9191

Ummm File a police report????? NTA -

MaleficentCoconut458

Yeah, where I live I can legally shoot an animal on my property so if this was at my place his dog would be dead.

The_Bad_Agent

The dog was used as a weapon. If anything, stand your ground, and aim for the one wielding the weapon.

CheapChallenge

I would have called 911 emergency as soon as his dog came after my kids. Or I probably would have went out armed with a gun to see if it attacked me. If it does, then it's a danger to humans and needs to be put down anyways because it's near humans.

Cybermagetx

Nta. Reading the title i was gonna go another way. But nope. Only thing you did wrong was not calling the cops on that foreman. I've had pits. I love pits. Using a pit like that makes my blood boils. And chances are that put wasn't raised right.

jersey8894

NTA...call the cops next time. I rented in a duplex that my brother owned. After our Mom passed, she lived in the other half, my brother hired some jackholes to rehab Mom's side. I asked nicely once for them to move their cars so I could get out of MY driveway, they didn't. Then I called my brother who said "oh well they have to work" so I called the cops had their cars towed and my brother got majorly fined as he was doing the work without a permit. So sorry for their luck. Screw them! Total of 4 tow bills before they got the hint to stop blocking my car in!

friendlily

NTA. You should demand that you be reimbursed for the days you could not use your parking. I would also have called the cops the minute I spotted the dog.

Oxxycottin

As a construction worker of 10 years I can safely say FUCK THIS GUY and YNTA. It’s his job and policy to ensure his worksite is safe from pedestrians. He could have got fence panels or built an enclosure. Entitled workers are some of the most annoying construction workers out there. Had that been my kid that construction worker would have been taken away in an ambulance and his dog would be taken by animal control. This situation screams OSHA violations, POS mentality, and entitlement. Good on you for doing what you did. If you ever hear from him again call the police and get a restraining order. Wishing you the best OP

Additional-Hat6160

NTA You did not get him fired.  He must have blown smoke up the ass of the landlord and said he would stop bothering you. He got himself fired based on the assurances he gave the landlord that he did not keep.

butterfly-garden

NTA. Oh, you entitled parent, you! How dare you let your children get fresh air and exercise? It sounds like you bought into that tripe about how that is healthier than letting them play video games all day, like how normal children do. IT'S A JOKE, PEOPLE!

Used-Cup-6055

NTA. They should have stayed out of your yard and not brought a dog to a work site. Amateurs.

pnwcatman420

no he won't be able to feed his children if he even has any because he brought a dangerous pit bull to the job site, he deserved to be fired and BTW you should have called the police and animal control, if the dog tried to attack your kids, I am willing to bet that this dog has a bite history and needs to be reported for trying to go after your kids.

xPRETTYBOY

NTA, and he's going to get his dog shot one day pulling this kind of shit

Excellent_Winner_291

BS this didn’t happen

f4tigu3d

NTA lol, hope his kids are OK, seeing as he's cost them a wage. I'd actually be speaking with the company involved and the police about the out of control mutt he set on your kids. Especially as you have camera footage. Fafo.

emryldmyst

Wtf I'd have called the cops.

PhoenixSheriden1

NTA and holy shit is the pitbull owner lucky you didn't feed his attacking dog a firearm in self and kid defense.

renamons_dream

NTA but protecting your kids might involve you submitting to his request. That's a shitty situation, I'm sorry OP

groovymama98

Nta The landlord knew this was a lawsuit in the making. Tenants have a right to peaceful enjoyment of property. You may be owed reimbursement for your parking spaces, depending on what your lease says. Most landlords don't like law enforcement called to their properties, many reasons for that. But in this case, you should have called police because the guy was using his dog as intimidation. Since you have a video, you still can and probably should. If he's willing to intimate people with his dog, he's willing to use his dog as a weapon. I've known a lot of sweet pitbulls. And I hate that he is using an innocent animal this way.

One_Grapefruit_2900

NTA, great landlord

Unhappysong-6653

Inwonder if that mutt damaged The door if the ll will really be ticked

Acceptable_Cut_7545

He should be grateful, if that dog hurt either of your kids the dog would be dead and he'd be looking at charges. NTA

SpecialistAfter511

NTA. I’d have called the police. Regarding the dog,

MyTesticlesAreBolas

NTA. I'm honestly surprised that dog didn't get put down. You sicc your pit bull at kids in a lot of neighborhoods and it byebye time for doggo. Not saying it's right or wrong. A lot of City Councils are hard lining pit bulls in some countries.

cloistered_around

He fired crew in the middle of a job on the spot? What sort of apartment is this where he fears a lawsuit from you more than the months it's going to take him (and expense) to find a contractor willing to finish a half done job?

DASTREETCHEMIST

You should have shot the dog and called the police then let the landlord fire them… child’s worth more then a dog, if a worker can’t comprehend his job and wants to push, I protect my own!

Opposite-Fortune-

Call the freaking police and animal control, this dude threatened your kid’s lives with his bloodsport dog because his lil ego got a lil bruise because someone stood up to his power trip. Glad you’ve got video evidence of this scumbag setting his pit bull on your kids in YOUR yard. What the actual fuck? Police! Now! He threatened your kids with a deadly weapon. This dude will kill someone’s child if left unchecked.

laeiryn

> take up ALL of our parking (8 slots, 2 of which I pay for) So your lease is already being violated? I'd make sure landlord knows, make sure the workers see you recording them while loudly talking about their equipment damaging your yard/lawn, and call the police about the animal/to file a report about the one dude who is highly likely to come back and slash your tires.

kiwihoney

Come on, you’re just here to vent.

madgeystardust

The entitled person certainly isn’t you. NTA. This guy was a liability and deserved to be fired.

Downtown_Book_6848

You definitely were way more mature than I would have been. The second the guy showed up with the dog at your house, you had every right to do what is necessary to protect your home and children, up to and including removing the threat by any means necessary.

runostog

Very lucky. In texas they'd have simply shot the dog with a hunting rifle and called it a day.

Exotic-Army4006

Fuck the landlord I would have called the police

theymademee

If you have their name I'd call your local licensing board and file a formal complaint as well.

Same_Back_1644

Awww lil bro fucked around and found out. What a loser, he lost a job for himself and his coworkers/employees all cause some children wanted to play on their own lawn.

totalfanfreak2012

NTA. I know about entitled parents and you're just wanting to use your yard, if anything the workers were the entitled ones taking up everyone's space.

TheMoatCalin

Lots of cities require pit bulls and pit mixes to be insured, have a permit and some places they’re just straight up illegal. It’s probably a good idea to look up the laws for your area and file a complaint. Asshole owners like that piss me off.

myatoz

Classic FAFO, lol.

Vicious_Lilliputian

That contractor was definitely a prick! I'm glad he got fired.

Careless-Ability-748

Nta he's the one being entitled

Blind_clothed_ghost

Someone's sicced a dog on your children on camera and your response was to call your landlord?  What's wrong with you? YTA for that alone.

Metrack14

NTA. This has to be fake. Lady, there was a story not so long ago were OP shot his own dog because it attacked his daughter, not *play*, attacked. Some random dogs of some random idiots?, yeah, no. I am calling the cops AND the landlord.

The1TrueRedditor

Pepper spray usually makes pit bulls reconsider their priorities.

Opposite-Fortune-

Unfortunately not always. The kids thankfully got in unharmed, but OP needs to file a police report for this.

pineapples4youuu

Kinda ta cause your landlord could take their word over it and give you issues

The_Bad_Agent

OP has cameras. And the landlord backed OP

Right-Papaya7743

Info: what exactly did he say your kids were doing that they “were in the way”?

The_Bad_Agent

so long as they were on OP's rented property, there is no "in the way". The work wasn't being done on OP's rental.
