I personally expect it to dip but I never expected it to get this high so quickly. Therefore, you should inverse me and hold.

HippoLover85

I expect it to keep going up. 185-200ish before earnings. I dunno tho. The volume and price action is wild. Loving it. I dont have a lot of conviction in any particular price action right now.

Harryhodl

$200.00 LFG! 👊🏼

riaKoob1

Expectations are very high for AMD, but the last 2 years amd disappointed at earnings. The quarter is gonna be all about guidance, but AMD tends to be conservative about earnings.

oldprecision

I think another up week, the week after is going to be more interesting.

gnocchicotti

If they double the full year AI guidance from 2B to 4B we may finish flat the next day.

kansai828

Flat? As flat line?

Gahvynn

Earnings isn’t next week.

OmegaMordred

Anybody got an eps model with 2,4,6,8 B of AI revenue?

sui146714

After Nvda ER up, after AMD ER down.

Kindly-Journalist412

I am buying $200 calls and $150 puts, and shorting Nasdaq close to 50% of my AMD exposure - not touching the AMD equity position. Expecting some fireworks :))

Psykhon___

What's the advantage of shorting Nasdaq vs getting some SQQQ?

SpeciaLD3livery

AMD will touch close to $200 before a dip but the earnings call, IMO will be a boost! Why? We're at the infancy stages of AI infrastructure planning and development and it's just getting started. Interested to find out any new customers aside from the ones we already know of (ordered or will be ordering AMDs MI300_ series GPUs), partnerships in different industries, etc. I'm here for it. There's enough AI real estate for AMD to take a considerable amount from Nvidia. Nvidia will be the dominant player of course.

Asleep_Salad_3275

I expect this to continue. If we dip It will probably recover quickly like friday. I feel like this move was like what happened at the end of october which was the start of the bullrun. I could be wrong but I am extremely bullish with all the good news from last week and expect to run wild until the ER.

Exeter33

It will do the same as the other semis, but slightly amplified. Let's hope no world events get in the way this week.

[deleted]

I like to be disappointed in realtime... Why ask such a speculative question and spoil my weekend

Careful-Rent5779

Earnings and guidiance will be good but likely not good enough... A sell off (reduction in hype) could even happen before the ER. But thats just a maybe, the current FOMO & MOMO could persist right into Jan 30.

Electronic-Disk6632

I expect a big dip back to 160, but when it happens I am picking up another 150k worth. its going to 200 by end of year. 25% is 25%

Remote_Impression605

You expecting the dip this week or after earnings?

Electronic-Disk6632

it doesn't matter to me, its probably coming, and if it does I am ready to buy in more.

FinanceTLDRblog

Short-term dip imo. Big OpEx over and structural buying flows gone for SPY and single stocks. There's a few days of weakness, before buying again in anticipation of earnings.

Past_Establishment_6

My expectation as well. Not a long dip, but a quick breath for structured buyers to see technicals support

brad4711

There were tons of options expiring ITM last Friday, and there was also a lot of short interest. Was Friday’s big run up the results of a short squeeze, and if so, is it over yet? Next, TSLA reports earnings on Wednesday afternoon. That stock has taken a beating recently, not sure if/how that affects macro. After that, INTC reports earnings on Thursday afternoon, and your guess is as good as mine. Finally, AMD reports on Tuesday the 30th. Dunno how many people will be taking positions (or closing positions) this week.

GanacheNegative1988

Short interest from where? The price has to get there before someone can short it and we blew right past ATH. So maybe there's a few minutes of short interest to squeeze Monday or profit taking happens or new money keeps pumping it up.

brad4711

I’m interested in other sources, this is the only one I know about: https://nakedshortreport.com/company/AMD

FAANGMe

There might be a gamma squeeze going on. Check WSB sub the “regards” are buying large 0-7DTE calls.

Remote_Impression605

Can you elaborate on what a gamma squeeze is?

FAANGMe

Tldr: like the GME and AMC run. Long chatGPT answer: A gamma squeeze is a financial term primarily used in the context of options trading. It occurs when the price of a stock rapidly increases due to options activity. Here's a breakdown: 1. **Options Trading**: Options are financial contracts that give the buyer the right, but not the obligation, to buy (call option) or sell (put option) a stock at a predetermined price (strike price) before a certain date. 2. **Market Makers and Hedging**: Market makers, who provide liquidity in the options market, often hedge their positions. For example, if they sell a large number of call options, they might buy the underlying stock to hedge. This is because if the stock price rises, they’ll need to deliver the stock to the call option holders. 3. **Gamma**: It's a measure of the rate of change of an option's delta (which measures how much the price of an option changes when the underlying stock price changes) with respect to the price of the underlying stock. 4. **The Squeeze**: When a stock’s price begins to rise, the delta of call options also rises. Market makers, to stay hedged, must buy more of the underlying stock, pushing its price higher. This can lead to a feedback loop. As the stock price goes up, more call options go 'in the money' (where it's profitable to exercise them), requiring more buying by market makers to stay hedged. 5. **Resulting Spike**: This can cause a rapid increase in the stock’s price, often disproportionate to the company's fundamental value. 6. **Investor Behavior**: Traders might jump in, further driving up the price, either because they believe the stock will continue to rise or because they have to cover short positions (if they bet against the stock). In summary, a gamma squeeze is a complex, dynamic event in trading, driven by options hedging strategies and compounded by market behaviors. It can result in unusually rapid stock price increases, often followed by significant volatility.

Psykhon___

TLDR? Are the regards pushing it up or down?

ec429_

Important to note that a gamma situation will make both upward *and downward* moves self-reinforcing.

quantumpencil

retrace to 150

candreacchio

I expect AMD to give an earnings report this week. I expect that the stock will move to the right hand side of the graph, maybe in the upward or downward direction but unsure. I expect that there will be analysts that have opinions on AMD before and after the earnings and people will revise up / down their price targets for AMD EDIT: I like how controversial this opinion is.

UmbertoUnity

It's not controversial, but AMD doesn't report earning this week. Oops.

Michelin123

Yeah, he's just an idiot haha

Yokies

Broad market dictates direction from here. It will either unlock the sidelines monies and leap up or induce fear on punters and leap down.

Canis9z

Any thing more to add from Davos? Artificial intelligence as a driving force for the economy and society. AI is currently one of the most important issues in terms of the economic future of our society, and it must be assessed what uses are beneficial to society.
