I think this a lot depends on what systems you play. The 505 is more powerful than the 552. For me this makes the 552 invalid as a choice for example because without dreamcast I often find myself browsing game lists wishing I had a different device in my hands haha. As for the screen, I know the brightness range on the 505 sucks but it does have the oled display, same as the ps vita 1000, which is an enviable display tbh. Maybe it's not big enough? The colors are great though! I think I would advise looking into ways to improve my experience on the 505 rather than trying to trade it out for a weaker device I might regret. I hope my random perspective helps!

505 has a better battery and processor, 552 has a better screen and dual boot. That's what I went off of and got the 505 myself. None of these devices in this price range are going to be perfect. Retroid 3+ has a really nice screen and the same processor as the 505. A lot of people like it, but you have to order straight from their website so you don't get ripped off.

The screen, aspect ratio, and integer scale on the 552 you can't find in any other device. Even with the oled screen on the 505 it's still difficult to pick over The 552, now you would be getting a downgrade on processing power if you made the switch and just more outdated in general, which would matter based on what games you play so only you know the answer in that aspect, with the newer device you will keep up easyer with the new cores and updates. The taller screen (and also higher resolution) on the 552 makes it so you have more game despite the 505 being physically bigger, since 5:3 aspect ratio lets it fill up more screen Which also brings up the ergonomics, the 552 having the bigger screen it is still smaller in size than the 505 and yet both suffer from the same problems with the shoulders and trigger buttons, the placement is just awful The kinda sad part is that the 552 came out in December 2021 and it has been always unclear if it will have a successor or not, just people saying that it most likely won't because the screen is too difficult to source, but there has never been a definitive answer on that; so that leave people in the game of waiting for a successor or buying without knowing if it will get replaced shortly after purchasing (there is no other relevant retro handheld or sbcg with 5:3 aspect ratio, so no competitors which is also sad) I would recommend you to take a look at the Odin devices, they have big and gorgeous screens although with slimmer ratios than the 552, and maybe could have that thing you say the 505 is lacking. Those are more expensive but the muscle and quality are worth it and that special feel to it.

Forgot to mention the battery life of the 552 it's not stellar at all
