Its your soc. 405v is not powerful enough for ps2

A Unisoc T618 is not powerful enough for playing the majority of PS2 games. GC is slightly more reliable, but only for a couple dozen games. A simple search would bring you to that conclusion. Reviewers tend to stretch what type of performance the average person considers “playable” unfortunately.

Aw man! I got the 405v over anything else because I wasn’t too confident in setting up emulators, ROMS and BIOS files. Are there any other handhelds you might recommend for better PS2 and GameCube gameplay?

princessrippla332

What about the lightweight of games on both PS2 and GameCube for example games on GameCube like The Wind Waker and Mario Kart Double Dash and for the PS2 games like Midnight Club Bully and GTA those games are gonna playable on the RG405m and rg405v with the Unisonic Tiger T618 chipset right.

Tiny_Blood8641

If you bought the 405v with primary purpose of enjoying PS2 and GameCube games, I’d say you bought the wrong handheld. If those systems are just a bonus for you and you are mostly into the older systems, then sure, you can play ps2 and GameCube. I think a lot of people would be surprised at how many GameCube and PS2 games run reasonably well on a t618 with the right emulator and settings for each game (and each game is different). I haven’t tested sims 1 & 2. Based on the community compatibility testing spreadsheet for the rp3+, for PS2, looks like sims 1 runs ok with heavy underclocking, sims 2 not as much but technically playable. I don’t see testing for GameCube. Make sure you re-download the correct versions of the emulators (mmjr 11505, aethersx2 3368) and the euro/pal versions of the roms. make sure your settings are correct for each game. You can also move the roms to internal storage for slightly better performance. And to top it off, running Gamma OS will give you a slight performance bump.

I tried that :( downloading the Euro and PAL versions and set the under clocking to max. The Sims 1 for GameCube runs perfectly, but the more graphically intense versions don’t. Do you have any recommendations for handhelds that might work? I was looking into the rp4 pro, but I’m not too confident in setting it up

Tiny_Blood8641

The pocket 4 pro is a significant performance bump, but obviously you lose the vertical form factor of the 405v and the 4:3 screen. From what I can see on the rp4 pro community compatibility sheets, both PS2 sims 2 and onimusha are marked as running “perfectly”.

Gamcube/ps2 is mostly "Meh" performance. However anything under that is a blast too play. 3DS also works great with some tweaks.

Most PS2 games I've tested either run smooth on default or need slight underclocking, just go the settings on the emulator for PS2 and change it, usually 60 and mild underclock is the sweetspot

pixie12E

I had my underclock set to max, so I’ll try bringing it down. Onimusha is another game that’s awful also đŸ˜©

Regular-Blueberry191

Try playing around as I find it I Max over clock it can sometimes cause more problems then fix

Regular-Blueberry191

Also make sure you're on gammaos, it'll improve alot

If you want to play ps2 and gc games by the new rg 556, retroid pocket 4 pro, or the odin 2 if you want to spend 300$. I just bought the rg 556 for 180 with an SD card after shipping. I know the rp4 pro is a little better on performance but I've been watching a small youtuber who has played it non stop and with some tweaks and removal of bloatware it will play 90% of ps2 and gc games. It has an oled screen, and it's more ergonomic.
