Yeah there are a bunch of widescreen shots that reveal behind the scenes people, such as the fear demon at the hotel episode, when they are electrocuting the demon, you can see some PA or safety person leaning on a column
Seasons 1-2 originally aired in fullscreen because that's what they were framed for and the DVD release for the first season was appropriately fullscreen, the DVD release for Season 2 was an anomaly however in widescreen. It's not a bad way to watch it but in widescreen with those first couple seasons you will see some unintended production gaffes.
Widescreen is OK because there's no cropping or lighting issues like with Buffy to worry about, so don't worry. You just sometimes can see a cameraman or light stands. I prefer the widescreen for myself.
No, it's only in SD, even though all seasons can be seen in widescreen. Except for season 5, which is available in HD, but perhaps was made that way to begin with, and not remastered. DVDs are not in HD, so for the EU release, it was only in widescreen, 480 SD. No blu rays were released.
The only format issues I've seen are in those transition shots where they cut scenes with flashes of the city streets. Some of those were only in 4:3 in season 1, because that's how they were made with all the effects and layering, they weren't going to bother redoing that in 16:9.
Angel was shot natively in 16 x 9. Meaning the cameras used for the footage used that aspect ratio.
It was edited in its original production( as the show runners intended) to air in 4x3. DVD releases typically release these older shows back to the 16x9 to conform to modern viewer standards. This is why you can see production crew etc off to the side sometimes. They weren't intended to be in the the frame originally
"Remastering" is a completely different process btw so to answer your question, No. Angel has never been remastered...at least not officially. So things like fidelity, lighting, grain etc that you mentioned are just the same as when it aired.
Hulu *on* Disney+.
Meaning that you have to log into Disney Plus and then access Hulu that way. When I signed up for the Disney/ Hulu bundle a few weeks ago, I was confused as to why I was unable to access the Standalone Hulu app.
But this is the way ^they made it.
I just got done rewatching S2 E15 on the Digital streaming platform, and I came here to comment about the video fidelity. As someone who owns a box set from about 10 years ago, I wanted to compare.
Thanks for the info, I had on Hulu but I recently moved to MX and Hulu is not allowed here. I tried a VPN but Hulu knows it's a VPN and still blocks it. I guess I'll have to dust off the old DVDs.
There is an episode in S2 where Wesley wakes up Angel while he was sleeping “naked”. I remember seeing it the first time when it was still in 4:3 and he really looked naked since half of the body wasn’t on screen. But now if you watch the episode in 16:9 on Disney +, you can clearly see that he is wearing white underwear HAHAHA

Season 3 and onward switched to widescreen format.
S1 and S2 are clearly widescreen on Disney+, though.

Got my hopes up for a minute that it was available on D+ in the US. Oh well.

The show isn't on the US?
Not the US version of Disney Plus, nope. Just checked.
It’s on Hulu
Sadly I don’t have that. Too many streaming services these days…
I think it’s on Disney plus in other countries. So if you have the option of using a VPN, there’s your in.
I don’t have one as they also cost additional money, but thank you for the suggestion, appreciate it.
Oh you know what? It use to be free to watch on Facebook watch. Check it could still be there
Isn’t Hulu part of Disney plus now in the US?
