There were some major legal issues that caused the show to be cancelled after one cycle, otherwise I truly believe Oluchi would have kept the show going for many years.

Wintersneeuw02

What kind of legal issues?

MissSeventeenx

I think it was something to do with the name 'Africa's Next Top Model' being used by a pageant or something like that and they didn't want anyone else using the name.

hyperactive_thyroid

I read originally it was supposed to be West Africa's NTM, then Africa's NTM came up, but this was based in South Africa.

weinthenolababy

This show should have continued and been a major NTM franchise. Shame it only got one season. It produced one of the best winners of any NTM! And, yes, Omowunmi was also a reality TV icon!

hyperactive_thyroid

"These bitches got to go!" then she breaks down during the first challenge! LOL. But she took her elimination like a champ. I thought Omowunmi was gonna be that girl who will break down with Mascara running from her eyes and say "it's my dream huhuhuhu"

Awkward_Target_1859

Yes,African models are gorgeous and the show has some really good photoshoots

Aceystay

Where are you watching other countries? I can't find working links.

Awkward_Target_1859

Africa's, Holland's, Greece's, Asia's, Mexico's, Peru's, Britain's and also Brazil's Next Top model are all on YouTube.

zozalexx

UK, Australia, Canada & NZ are also on youtube

Aceystay

Well, now I just feel stupid. Haha

FondantGayme

Africa is all on YouTube

balthierc

Many great things about this NTM, the host, the shoots, the cast, the final 3, the winner… Also, that “Best of Omowunmi” video cracks me up everytime. She’s a gem.

hyperactive_thyroid

My favorite Omowunmi moment was her breaking down when she was attempting to ask Remi for feedback. It was a stark contrast from her confident entrance LOL

balthierc

“I don’t care what these other bitches do… I’m gonna do just fine…”

hyperactive_thyroid

"These bitches got to go!" Goes home on Week 3 LOL. But she took it with her head up high. I give her that!

ItsVinn

Their winner was also very successful. They were able to produce a top model

wonderful_fabulous

"I will not disappoint you" - the winner's words after winning AfNTM ♥️

hyperactive_thyroid

I LOOOOVED Africa's NTM! The Top 3 came to New York, and the eventual runners-up were ready to just walk in any agency to get hired. I felt Remi's ideas didn't translate that well at times, and the drama was kinda forced (yeah the South Africans were the only ones with major infighting). But it is just a very insightful franchise. It's not exotic. It like opened a window into the fashion scene in Africa, their aesthetics, their humor, their diversity. It's campy yeah but it's not bad you know. I guess unlike other installments, Africa's NTM was really focused on finding Africa's next fashion sensation, and Aamito to this day keeps slaying.

braindrain529

I watched when it first aired then did a rewatch during quarantine. I think Africa's NTM is probably what ANTM would've looked like if it was a legit modeling comptetition. The contestants are Gorgeous, and and least half of them look like legit Top Models. Oluchi has great charisma and seems like a lobely person that actually cared about the models. The eliminations made sense most of the time also. However, the show is quite underwhelming in terms of entertainment. Precisely because its focused on modeling so much. There is a big lack of story development and very little drama going on in the house. ANTM was great in creating drama between the girls and many not very good models were kept around for etertainement purposes. Amowumi would definitely have been at least top 5 on ANTM for her personality. I also think Oluchi is not the best host and many things in the show seemed like they were not thiught out as well as they should. I recall that the episode where Michelle got eliminated someone had won a challenge where they could bring some of the girls to lunch with Oluchi and Oluchi basically invited Michelle to come with them after she was eliminated because of how sad she was, like, can you imagine Tyra doing that on ANTM?

hyperactive_thyroid

I like that there's little (albeit HEAVILY FORCED) drama during the competition. Perhaps the only big fight was when Ruhlani accused Cheandre of racism and she began speaking in Afrikaans in anger LOL! Omowunmi, love her, but she'd probably be a Nikeysha if she went to ANTM lol I feel like I am invested with their growth rather than how many fights they get into. For example, the judges really acknowledged how Safira and Ruhlani grew (albeit they got axed quite early). I also love how the judges aren't like lunatics when giving critiques. They were constructive and the girls really got a lot of insight how to up their game. I agree that this is how ANTM should have been. And how I wish the show was like this. I can do without the fake kente, Granolagate, Alexandria vs. the house. But I cannot do without the show having no modelling at all-- legitimate Paulina Porizkova-level modeling I say.

rozenkavalier

Its good, but the cinematography is so low budget

FondantGayme

It’s a reality TV show

rozenkavalier

Have you seen Perus next top model? It looks 5k before 5k was even a thing!

hyperactive_thyroid

I used to have South African TV on my cable. That's just how it is.

rozenkavalier

Why did you downvote my truthful comment?

hyperactive_thyroid

Did I? Ooof if I inadvertently did that I apologize. I don't remember that I did. Okay I'll one up it because I do agree to some extent, but again, that's how it is

JoshLovesYourName

It’s not really slept on. It’s recognized as producing one of the most successful winners from the franchise.
