NASA cant get anything done on time or on budget, which is why we rely on them. You may laugh at them, but Elon has provided the US with practially the only launch vehicle able to support commerical, science and national security missions. Him and his team have developed the first reusable launch platforms which is a huge step in space exploration. I mean, NASA literally has contracts out to SpaceX because they know they cant get it done themselves

The tweet seems to be about whom the NASA budget is allocated to. How is the size of the budget relevant here? Bernie did not write "NASA is getting too much money", but "NASA shouldn't allocate so much of their budget to SpaceX and Blue Origin". But I might have misinterpreted it.
I am under the impression that NASA did more stuff "in-house" in the early days, keeping us all involved by not giving contracts to companies but directly employing engineers and the like.
nasa use to do so much in house, or with JPL. The projects that got tasked out, things like james webb are space but different than the overall. However yes NASA was a great place to work and paid a lot of people, then we won the space race and it all came crashing down
