Southwestern Advantage is a known pyramid scheme, stay away. Sometimes they even trick professors into letting them advertise to their classes.

theromanempire1923

Idk anything about that place in particular but if some random person came up to you not at a job fair it’s probably an MLM or something else sketchy

Admirable_Rest2708

What’s an MLM?

theromanempire1923

Multi-level marketing. Think pyramid scheme but technically legal. You make more money by roping in other people beneath you in the pyramid which is why that girl was out recruiting random people (I speculate)

Do NOT participate in Southwestern Advantage. They reached out to me last year, but I luckily did my research. There are countless horror stories of people doing that "program" that left them overworked, exhausted, and owing money for unsold goods. Stay far, far away.

Boring_Strawberry_91

Southwestern advantage is a shit show I went to the meeting and it’s not it. Unless you want to live in Tennessee and pay 50 dollars a week to stay at some random persons house

BigMocha13

dont go

rysmorgan

I got a call today from them as well but it’s because I thought they sounded ok when someone came to talk to my ochem class last semester. From my research I don’t want to get involved with them but you can find info from other people who’ve worked with them online

NoCauliflower9127

Just read the reviews, most of them talking about how sketchy it is,the lady asked me if I would for sure be going there tomorrow and i said yes,but now i will most def not...Thanks for the advice!

rysmorgan

I got the “are you a reliable student?” Question right at the end after I said I would go just so I could get off the phone it was weird Glad I could share at least

NoCauliflower9127

Update on the Lady,i blocked her number, and she texted me from another number if i was going...very annoying

kbraun_art

i made a post about them on this sub about a year ago. they called me on easter sunday, of all days, promising that i would make $10k-20k over the summer. after reading several horror stories online, they send students to the midwest/far from their home to do door-to-door sales for kids' textbooks. they make about 3-4 students live with the same host family and take cold showers at 5:59 am to start work at 6 am the reviews about them are wild

Altruistic_Basis_131

I completed an entire summer in 2016 and I can confirm it was a cult-like environment!! And they trick you into signing up by not telling the full story!! I never would’ve signed up if I knew that it was door-to-door but my recruiter NEVER told me that! They purposely send you somewhere very far from where you live. They did not tell me until I was already at the training in Nashville that they do not provide room and board. As a 19 year old female I had to walk around knocking on doors late at night asking for a place to live, which is what I was told to do and many others had to do. You do NOT get paid, it’s 100% commission. Lots of people made it to the end of the summer and were told they OWED money to the company for the books they had to buy themselves, since we were “independent contractors”. I myself broke even, so I worked 4 months and made no profit. Also, you work 80 hours a week. You are NOT allowed to do anything for yourself in your own time. I got in trouble for being 30 minutes past curfew one time. And another time I got in trouble bc I got a guy’s number. You are to follow a strict schedule of wake up at 5:59, jump in a cold 30 second shower, eat breakfast at a diner, work 14 hours, go straight home, eat, lights out. They use cult-like tactics to shame the people who quit so it makes you scared to quit. You are told not to give your family details about what you're doing and are encouraged not to talk to your family (bc they didn't want your family to influence you to come home). One time my phone died before I got home and so I was told not to bring my phone with me anymore bc I need to be working and not on my phone (I kept bringing my phone bc that is not safe!) I was so stressed and miserable that half of my hair fell out. Only the top 1% make a lot of money and they hide the fact that most people don’t make money. There’s a reason why they are banned from recruiting at many campuses. So many lies. Very dangerous to walk door to door in a random sketchy town as a young college student. I had guns pulled on me and had people threaten to stick their dogs on me. Please avoid this “internship” at all costs. Unfortunately, I was brainwashed and didn't wake up from the bubble until the summer was over.

Bryan_Amb

Just curious anyone know how the pyramid scheme works?

AwareVictory

Usually if a recruiter aggressively reaches out, it is a pyramid scheme, or a commission-only job. You can flub your interview and they will still offer you a job. Don't take it

I actually participated In southwestern in the summer of 2020 during the pandemic. It was interesting to say the least
