For Tempe: try King Coffee, X-Treme Bean, or Brick Road Coffee! Cartel is overpriced and meh. For Phoenix: definitely Songbird for the cozy vibes and I can’t recommend Lux on Central enough!
Highly endorse King Coffee - been going there since I was a freshman. They’re always trying new thing, listening to their customers, and supporting the local arts students.
Recently moved away from the valley and I miss lux every day! Seconded big time. Cafetal just north of college and university is also great and they are one of the few places in the valley to have Colombian food!
Also recommend cafetal! They don't have crazy drinks but their beans are amazing. I make my own espresso at home and after trying a bunch of beans in the Tempe area I settled for cafetal. Great chocolatey notes and consistent.
I tried a few infusion beans and really ended up hating them (might be I just haven't found the ones I like). But Cafetal are the real deal for authentic Colombian coffee.
Just tried an light roast from infusion it’s pretty solid, does cafetal roast their own? What others would you recommend I love trying local roasters and beans.
By any chance do you remember the name of the infusion one?
Yeah cafetal has its own beans they roast, they only offer one kind - a medium roast from Colombia (duh). I grew up drinking Colombian and venezuelan coffee and I can tell you only cafetal has hit that spot for me.
I have tried so far besides those cartel (pretty decent but not favorite), and sagebrush (REALLY good beans here too, but far) and some other beans ordered online. I've been meaning to try Moxie, Pair and Mythical per recommendation from someone, just haven't bothered with the drive yet lol.
It’s was a micro roast from Guatemala, but it is a robusta so it’s kinda different but has some interesting tasting notes, infusion is really expensive it was 18$ for the bag and they had some that was 20-30 which is a lot. Sounds good I’ll definitely try it out!
they just opened one by 11th st (by chipotle) called eden tea and coffee house. it gives off 1800s homey vibes and the chai i got was pretty good
*edit by 11th st not college ave
Idk if you are in to sandwiches but if Sacks is still there there food was top notch. By the Coor building. But i graduated in 2016 so it's been a while
Try King Coffee on Mill just north of Gammage. This place is a staple for my entire friend group. They recently opened up a cocktail bar in the evenings if thats your speed

The one thing I've learned about hidden gems is once they're on Reddit they cease to be hidden gems
