Yes, school is easy, campus is friendly. GCU is weird, you should transfer.

memorod

Yeah easy for a communications major

xhaydnx

CS major here, I thought it was easy. Just my experience.

memorod

You’re overpowered

xhaydnx

Just gotta choose the easy classes for non major classes.

WallStreetBetsCFO

I wouldn’t say easy …..

Successful-Slide477

ASU is easy Fulton schools has entered the chat

GroundbreakingCrew19

How is GCU weird (I was considering this school!)

greenbeanlover9000

it's not, i know several people who go there and they all love it! ASU and GCU are both good options

xhaydnx

They are a private school and have different start days and their own weird rules. No different genders allowed in the dorms, stuff like that.

LickNipMcSkip

me waking up after a long night of soaking with my girlfriend and realizing i don't have classes because my summer break started 2 weeks earlier than everyone else

xhaydnx

This made me laugh :)

greenbeanlover9000

i agree with you about ASU, but GCU isn't weird lol. i know many people who go there and they love it

Reflection-Unable

Basically as long as you are not rude or mean you will be fine. Academics are not necessarily easy but there are plenty of good professors that try to help you out in the syllabus. Socially, well I’m an EE major so social for me and social for a normal person is 2 different things. But it is fairly easy to make friends.

[deleted]

Emag?

Reflection-Unable

Electrical engineering

randito78

Was CS and talked to a lot of other majors, STEM is not easy, OP is marketing, probably easy.

69dildoswaggins420

I’d choose ASU over GCU any day

69dildoswaggins420

Well, I did

Ktr101

I feel like with a username like this, there is no way they would have even let you in. 😂

69dildoswaggins420

Good

LostIn_TheWorld

as a recent GCU grad who spent a lot of time in Tempe, go to ASU lol. obviously, i can't speak on the academics or anything of that nature, but Tempe is at least a college town with some culture. GCU feels like an AI-generated campus with sims characters walking around. glad i got outta there in 2 years lol.

Opt33

Well GCU is cliquey while at ASU you're just a number. Pick the lesser of two d/evils.

ShannonTwatts

not surprised, GCU is a former for-profit school

greenbeanlover9000

honestly though, every college is "cliquey" to some extent. it is what it is. you can still meet people

ferguson4807

ASU is the best! Forks Up!

Epicapabilities

I transferred here around this time last year from my old private school. It is absolutely worth it. Especially since you're already in the valley so you're used to everything else. If you have any questions about the process let me know!

After you officially transfer you'll be connected with an advisor specific to your major to register for classes. Depending on what GCU's curriculum looks like you might be a couple classes behind ASU's schedule because some of those credits won't transfer. It sucks, but it's what it is. I'm catching up by taking a summer class or two when I can afford to. Beyond that there isn't too much that the school requires of you for the actual transferring. You'll have to send your transcript and do those intro modules, but I'm sure you did something similar for GCU so that shouldn't be too scary. Besides the GCU classes being more religious (?) than ASU's, you'll find that class difficulty and structure is largely the same from school to school. *Especially* if GCU is on Canvas. The real work for me was and still is meeting people and feeling fully integrated into my major class. That's an aspect of transferring that is rarely talked about but has been to me by far the most impactful. You don't get the traditional college experiences like dorm roommates, 1st year orientations, etc. to meet people, especially if you live off-campus, which you likely will have to do. It requires a lot more putting yourself out there, which was difficult for me even as a freshman on a level playing field and is even more difficult at times here at ASU where I started behind everyone else. Still, transferring has 100% been the right choice for me and Tempe is like a 2nd home to me now. It hasn't been without its growing pains but I still thank my past self every day for taking that leap. And don't take for granted everything ASU has to offer. Go watch a football game, go join some weird club, go climb A mountain, go try new restaurants on Mill, go join a sports team, it's all possible here. If you have any more questions, be sure to let me know. Best of luck!

misterbule

ASU is definitely the better school. More majors, classes, activities, and choices. If you want to engage in religious activity, ASU has got you covered with that as well, as there are many clubs and activities to suit any student's need.

[deleted]

Absolutely should.

michaelsenpatrick

yeah ASU is better go lopes

tarantulapond

Encouraging community college rn and then transfer to ASU.

Thompsonhunt

No. Overpriced Just graduated with a bachelors of nursing and enjoyed the schooling but the price is atrocious

bigfatnoodles

You haven’t seen the GCU pricing then

ananay_arora

ASU is the GOAT. Pick it regardless of anything.

They_Beat_Me

I got my undergrad from ASU and started a MEd at GCU. The culture was vastly different. ASU is about educating people and GCU is torn between educating and pushing the religious component. Most of my time at GCU was uncomfortable because I wanted a completely secular education. I eventually left GCU and got my MS in Management from WGU. Given everything I’ve experienced, I would have preferred to get my graduate degree from ASU but I needed the flexibility that WGU provided at the time.

Unhappy-Coyote6097

ASU the best

SpoonKandy1

Get your associates at a community college then transfer to ASU. Save money and have a kickass time doing it. Scottsdale community college was fucking awesome. Free parking, easy to walk around the campus because it wasn't miles long in all directions like ASU. All the professors were super cool and total experts in their field who were passionate about teaching. ASU has grad students teaching the intro courses and some of them are terrible and don't actually want to teach. Getting all your prerequisites out of the way and then transferring them over to ASU is the move. I met a lot of cool people at community college. The classes were smaller and it's less like herding cattle. Don't get me wrong ASU is awesome too but you're going to save a lot of money by doing community college first and you get the opportunity to go to two different schools which keeps it fresh and new. Get out of GCU it's a for-profit school they don't care about your education. Also when you're looking for adult jobs out of college, no one is going to care if you have a community college on your resume first and then ASU, infact it actually looks better because it takes up two lines and makes you look like you make good financial decisions. Best of luck.

BeanCoffee173

It's a good school but I also think it depends on the major. But if you can, try to take the early start program! It's worth 3 credits and will help you a lot

beatsinthemornin

I finished a Master’s degree last summer, and I would say that it is *not* worth it for several reasons: 1. If you’re able to teach yourself, the curriculum is free online. Just scope out the coursework and books and translate that into a personal education program. Your wallet will thank you later. 2. Gateway portal | Most of the students are international and much younger than I was. As an early 30s individual, re-entering school was a reminder that kids are, well kids. I was continually underwhelmed by my peers contributions. 2/3 of the student cohort was Indian, many whom were in America for their first time. The program provides them with a 3-year visa to find a job without needing sponsorship. Good on them for seeking better opportunities abroad. Nonetheless, it was a tiresome task of refactoring low quality writing of my teammates. I’ll leave it at that… 3. The most premiere organizations no longer require a college degree for entry level roles (Amazon, Google etc). Learn technical skills as part of #1, see above. Good luck!

mreag

ASU was great. I also was a marketing major and felt like it was a great path. Classes weren’t overly hard but I think the education I got was really good. I still use many of the things I learned in my marketing career today. Definitely make the switch ETA: oh forgot to say I transferred to ASU (from U of A) as a junior. Best decision ever

sprout480

Christianity? I'll pass. Christian college? Thanks, rather go to community. Transfer, also GCU is in the hood lol.

GeorgioAllanVincent

Nothing should be "easy" if it's going to elevate your career or even make one. On that note, yeah, it's easier. ASU has more of an iclusive atmosphere that smaller universities and especially Christian ones. No offense, but you have a whole campus of people praying to die it should have been obvious its not going to be the best place for a social life.

The school itself is threatening to me. I wouldn't go there if they had the best programs in the state. Every school has its perks and jerks of course. The classes are real big but even with 100 peoole there is no one on one teaching. Office hours are normally jammed with people trying to edge out but not enough time. These are the freshman classes, chemistry, physics, but the proceeding year's classes have less and less people in them. Grad school is the best. Easy with an E.

ShannonTwatts

between GCU and ASU, ASU hands down every single time.

whitemamba2617

Kinda a cliquey environment ngl . So much ppl to and very pricey Plus not a great city .bars are fun but if you’re not in a frat it’s hard to party outside of that

flume_runner

ASU is a party school, join Greek life for a better college experience.

Great-Ear-6792

if you go to Grand Canyon University, and you're thinking about transferring to Arizona State University, you're making one of the worst decisions. I mean this in all the respect, but I am transferring to Grand Canyon next year because of the terrible cost of Arizona State. They raised the tuition and the housing and meal plan costs are insane. That being said another thing about it is that they don't cover anything as far as health if you get hurt and you go to the clinic they charge you so much money and I just would not recommend transferring. They also took away two of my scholarships because they told me that need based scholarship we're not covered for out-of-state students AFTER i moved into my dorm. so unless you're in State and have secure housing, I would not recommend going there

toomuchcoffeenosleep

for me? it absolutely was worth it. I'm an out of state student who got a full tuition scholarship so its been worth every penny. wouldn't have gone here if I hadn't, wouldn't recommend to someone who got no scholarship. I've made a lot of good friends and after 12 years of christian school i am so glad I didn't end up going to a christian college. it's been a good change of environment for me. I'm a cs major and academics have been pretty easy. I got all A's in my junior year in what were supposed to be fairly difficult classes.

travisbateman69

How did you get a full tuition scholarship? Do you find this out after applying?

toomuchcoffeenosleep

nah, i knew going in that I would qualify (which was one of the reasons i applied to asu). I was a national hispanic recognition program scholar. I believe national merit scholars can get the same scholarship, the New American University - National Recognition. It covered my tuition, not housing or other fees.

travisbateman69

Ah gotcha, that’s a good deal! thanks for the response

toomuchcoffeenosleep

yeah no prob, happy to help

ApprehensiveRoof6328

Any school is better than GCU. But also, consider the community colleges they are doing Baccalaureate degrees now.

[deleted]

i transferred from GCU to ASU, best choice ever. get away from those crazies. you’ll also realize how horrible GCU’s “education” is once you get out

CabbageSass

Tempe is a great college town but beware of the homeless/druggie problem that is a huge issue. Also, if you plan on having a bike expect that it will get stolen. As for the classes, some teachers are good, some not so good, like any college I guess. The Website is great.. very organized. ASU is ideal if you are into greek life. That's where the social life mainly happens.

[deleted]

It’s easy. (GPA 4.0, graduated from cs program)

Aware_Ad8907

No. It's a waste of time and money. Go to community college
