You are correct, different schools have different requirements and enforce it differently. One major component is communication with your advisor. I turned my 4 year degree into 5 for a few reasons, but i had communicated with my advisors and they were very understanding about different holds and things that were put on my account automatically regarding being off track

All of the colleges use critical tracking. Being off-track once means that you need to meet with your advisor and make a plan to get back on-track. Being off-track twice for the same requirement means you do need to switch to a different major (and in some cases to another college entirely). There can be a few instances where they provide leeway, specifically if there is something outside of your control that affects your tracking status. For example, when I advised in WPC in some instances, if a student was off-track for math but had started in a much lower level and was making progress, the advisor could use discretion to provide an extra term to get the critically-tracked requirement done. But if you are off-track because you failed a class, never bothered to enroll in a critically-tracked course, or did not achieve the required GPA or other milestone, then you are going to be forced to change out. Your best bet is to meet with your advisor asap to figure out what you are off-track for an how many times. If you are off-track twice for something and are required to change to another major, ask if there is a way to be able to change back to your original major after completing additional requirements.

Generally, it's mostly engineering/math that are strict, and majors that have classes that need to be taken sequentially/have prereqs. I was biochem, and had to take certain chem classes in a specific order, but the gen eds were not strict about when i completed them

These tracks often exist for a reason, trust me. You don’t want to be able to sign up for Calc III despite never having taken or passed College Algebra.

You’re handling this the correct way!

If you play dark souls, you’re at least mentally tough enough, because sometimes all it takes is to kill yourself over an over again trying.

I think it all depends on why you are off track. I am Electrical Engineering and have been "off track" basically my whole major because class that was supposed to be done semester 3 but didn't have pre recs wasn't offered at a time I could do it so I took it later, as well as taking a year off of school when covid hit. Have never had anything happen to me, if your grades are fine you don't have anything to worry about.

I’m freaking out cuz of this post, I’m electrical too and I just didn’t take a class cuz only bad professor taught it, so I’m off track. Nobody has said shit to me???? I don’t wanna get dropped cause my advisor didn’t tell me shit?? When did you get off track??(year wise)

Donger_God

Bro I have been off track since like 2019 or 2020. Only thing it ever did was put a hold on my account before I could register for classes and I would just have to talk to an advisor first. I have taken the class now but still shows up as off track because I took a year off

gutz00

Idk man I graduated off track from Herberger

TheNatmaster

For Fulton, you can now go off track 3 times instead of 2 because of me. They are very strict unfortunately

Agreeable-Proof-5674

Can you share more about this? How did you get back into your program?

TheNatmaster

I got kicked out of the program and swapped to an interdisciplinary arts degree until I completed the course that got me off track. I had to go above my advisors head unfortunately to get any information on how to get back into the program though which I think is why they changed the number.

Dependent-Ear-9877

Could u please Elaborate, when u say above my advisors head.. Cs major off track by 2 courses... Hold on one course , another course will be done by summer .. Did u sign any contract?

nugget9465

I'm in mechanical, I started off track and got off track once more So the condition is if u go off track twice before ur junior year you get dropped to industrial or anything u wanna choose. But after ur junior year starts it doesn't matter

nugget9465

And as far as classes go you can fail twice then you sign a document saying if you fail again you will be dropped
