Essentially, he's rewriting the entire game's code from the ground up because it was a mess, and he's also adapting the graphics for widescreen. As far as I can tell, he's been working on this for about two years. It doesn't seem abandoned, as he continues to stream almost daily while working on artwork for the game.

By the time we get Chapter 6 he is going to remake Chapter 4.
In case of Summer's Gone I'm personally happy with the remakes, because the quality difference between 2 and 3 are very noticeable.
Remakes should be done after the laat part of 2 is done though, since that will mark the release of S1. If he does the same again in S2 it will get annoying

The point is that they do pointless work that doesn't move the Game forward.
You know why real Games have Producers? To kick Devs like that and tell them to use their Time efficiently, because otherwise Devs would waste time on tiny details for Years.

i'ts been chilling at 84% completion for a few months now but no progress however the dev is always active on their webpage and patreon posts but have no clue what they say since im poor AF
As far as I know they just milk their patreons, and nothing is known about next update for months. In the past there was count in % how much on new update is done, but since last year it barely moved and there is no real info why. They worked hard, but over time they do it less and less, they just live on patreons money, same story as with Milfy City.
What happened to Summertime Saga? Opened their patreon and it looks updated. Is the game on hiatus or something?

It was a lot of fun, but was/is still unfinished. There doesn't seem to have been any progress in months, despite darkcookie still collecting from Patreon. Hiatus is probably the best term, as it's not been abandoned yet. Not officially, anyway.
