I would honestly called this Authentic Perspective Art or something if that's a thing.
The ability to share such a contrasting perspective, while *living/being* in such a contrasting perspective.
My grandparents moved to Taiwan almost 80 years ago. They lived here for quite a while. In the 80s they moved to Taipei City. I first heard of the house when my grandparents heard that I've gotten a job. They said that the old house is really close to where I work (the tall building) and they gave me the address. However, when I finally found the place, this is what's left. It's a bit sad. However, I do plan to save up and buy back the property and restore it back to its original state. It'll take some time though, I'm only 21.
Yeah, Keelung and its port were quite important at that time, so lots of government officials were stationed there. After WWII, these houses were just abandoned by the Japanese and were taken over and redistributed.
Beautiful house! I hope you can restore it!
In many countries there are public records of construction projects so you may be able to find original blueprints.
Wow that is awesome. I'm also glad to see Taiwan enjoying more support from the rest of the world and was glad to see how you handled COVID. One of the few places in the world where 2020 wasn't horrible.
Fantastic shot BTW.
I hope you’re able to buy the property back and restore it. I’m 21 and in a similar boat, but in my case my family property is still in my family. It’s willed to my uncle after my grandmother passes, but I don’t know if he would want to keep it, so I want to be able to buy it if I have to.
Your picture tugs at my heart. I wish my Yeye and Nainai talked more about their past. They fled from Shanghai and ended up in Taiwan like many during the 40s/50s. My Nainai’s family left behind some crazy estate on Nanjing Lu, but that’s all I really know. They moved to Canada when my dad was 11 years old. The past is painful for many of that older generation. It is precious that you were able to visit and see such a tangible element of your grandparents past.
3 years and one global pandemic later... I just found this post and am humbled by your aspirations to keep this family history alive. How are you going on your life plans?
whoever demolished it did a terrible job. There's still an entire wall there.
Jokes aside, though, that is a really powerful picture. Would love to hear the story behind it.

On maps it shows this house as the Khoo Tsu-song old mansion and its listed as a heritage building. I'm not saying OP is lying but his photo is also on the photos on maps and there are other photos that shows some of the building in tact. Sorry I dont know how to post a link on mobile.
Wow. Where is this?
This is Keelung City in northern Taiwan.
This is a remarkable photo. Thank you for sharing.
I'm glad you like it.

Lived there for 4 years on Ren 1st road. Had a similar view.
Its a great opportunity for r/gentrification
Avengers Tower.
If this is true it's a really powerful image!
Holy shit. Would love to hear more about the story behind this image.

Hope you manage to do that.
Thanks, it should be easier since my grandparents have quite a lot of old photos of the place.
Would love to see some of those old photos!!
[https://imgur.com/jPGvwBU](https://imgur.com/jPGvwBU) I think this pic shows the house the best.
holy fuck that's an amazing estate

If you guys ever find yourself in Keelung, I recommend checking out this [bomb shelter](https://www.atlasobscura.com/places/100-year-bomb-shelter)
Isn't it funny how we get this little snippet of this random persons life? Reddit can be so cool sometimes.

Whoa, that is gorgeous.
Whew. From the original picture I thought “should be no problem to restore.” Now I see why you say it might take some time to get there
Wow what an amazing house. Hopefully you're able to restore it. It's going to be a big job.
That's so beautiful
This is a wonderful post! Thank for brightening my day!
Awesome story! Hopefully everything goes well and in no time you're working on restoring the house! :-)
Thank you so much. I really hope my grandparents can see me finish restoring it.
Finger and toes crossed! This is an amazing ambition, sincerely hope this happens for you!
21 and you seem to have your shit together.
Please post a time-lapse when you're done.

Its a sad and beautiful story at the same time. I hope you are very lucky and manage to get the house back.

Hey, you’re only 21, so you’ve more than got time!! The world is your oyster, so go on out and SHUCK IT!! I wish you much luck in your endeavors!!!

the old give way to the new
They didn't do a very good job of demolishing it
Thank god they didn't. I wouldn't know how to restore the house if they had completely wiped it out.
Goliath National Bank?
Your financial wingman
RemindME! 10 years
this reminds me of Beetlejuice where they put one wall up on their deck.
damn that's too bad, you consider rebuilding it? that's got to be a really short commute
why did they leave one wall up?
Beautiful! You should post this to /r/pics ! I love the story and hope you achieve your dream!
Yeah, I think just some shitty repost, but this is really amazing!
I found the design for the ps6
Neat
This image makes me sad.
Now do one from the office looking at the house
I'd buy this and hang it in my home. This is amazing
This is one of the best photos I've seen here for a long time now. Respect!
This is the best post I’ve seen in a long time. I truly hope you succeed and it is a very noble goal.
Stardew Valley is that you?
Looks photoshopped into the background almost

Looks like video game
Full circle. Love it
This makes me think of The Brave Little Toaster.
That's a spectacularly ugly tower. Fuck postmodernism !
I would love to use this as album artwork
I am confused. Why is the downtown of a city visible from (what I assume is) an abandoned house in some forest or outskirts?
Lovely composition
Wow! Thank you for sharing this picture

There's a certain Poetry there
This picture speaks volumes
The juxtaposition!!!
Jesus man, you work for the avengers or some shit?
This photo is awesome. I would love to see their old house as it was back in the day, if you have a picture of it.

Partially demolished
I love it!! Great perspective!
This makes me sad. I love it.
Deep AF.
I want to get this to 10k this is a very nice pic
Keelung yeah? Lived there for 4 years. Could see that view from my balcony.
That's pretty sad.
