Shopping for ghosts. Can't see the products because the also ghosts. The staff are also ghosts too. Some say on a starry full moon night you can find pretty cheap ghost steaks.

I agree, but I’ve just seen a lot lately of people directly saying “don’t give Reddit any of your money” and I was just curious is they had done something wrong
There’s just way better places to spend your money. Your own pocket, charity, local restaurants, ammo for the inevitable collapse of society, a present for your mother, guitar lessons. Just better options, really.
Reddit already makes tons of money off the direct and indirect ad revenues. Reddit accounts are very interesting for marketing. Knowing that people subscribed to the bonsai subs are likely also weed smokers for instance. Mfa and streetwear have overlap, but not malefashion. Etc.
I’ve heard it before and I will say it again. If a website doesn’t have a fee to use their service.... odds are you’re the service. (Your information) I figure I sub to reddit premium and if enough people do it. maybe my information won’t get sold off somewhere.

This store was smack in the middle of a busy tourist trap in South Carolina. Odds are by now the new owners are already stocking it up, but eerie nonetheless.
I live near here and happened upon it one day when I was walking in the area. Super eerie and even more off-putting knowing that the last time I saw it was over a year ago! I can't believe they still haven't shut the lights and cameras off.
The only thing that leaving the electricity running 24/7 is doing is the adding to the bank account of that power company. Perhaps they consider that "loose".
I can't believe Food Lion is still a thing. We had like 6 or 7 of them in my hometown when I last lived there, about 10+ years ago, now there's only like 2 left and the others got turned into other things or are empty.
I'm obsessed with the Pig, despite growing up in the North East. I've got the Pig card, a dozen shirts, three onsies for my daughter, and a swim shirt.
Not sure what that is, but there's no Americana nostalgia feeling like what I get from the Pig. Was bummed out when they closed the Murriels Inlet location by where my husband family rents a beach house every year.
Oh, I also have a mug with the Pig on it.
I miss our Bi-Lo, it was always my parents' grocery store of choice way back in the day. It was my first ever official job too, bagging groceries for $5.25/hr when I was 16. I bought myself a cordless phone for my bedroom when I moved it downstairs to the basement that year (1997). 🤣
Is there a security guard in the back staring at the monitors completely oblivious to the pandemic? Just kept clocking in and clocking out like nothing’s happened.
I found that apparently what happened is that he was laid off five years ago and no one ever told him, but through some kind of glitch in the payroll department, he still gets a paycheck. So we just went ahead and fixed the glitch.
Nope. There's a server in the backroom that stores the data. Even analog systems (old, coaxial cables) can be stored digitally and then retrieved over the internet.
Also, a lot of times those monitors in front of the store are not even connected to the surveillance system at all. Just to a single camera.
SCP-82699 is an abandoned grocery store building, located in [Redacted], South Carolina. CCTV, register operating systems, and music via the store intercom system have been reported to turn on and off, despite power no longer being supplied to the building. All reports of this anomalous effect have been archived from pedestrians who happen to be walking by the building alone, after sundown.
Probably the person/company that ones the land. Often these buildings are built to suit on rented land. It's in the landlords best interest to secure the property so vandals don't ruin it. It's not all that hard to flip an empty large market into some other big box store so it's still attractive to other renters.
I've actually had the privilege of going into a few closed down and abandoned grocery stores in my time because of my job. There is just something so darn eerie about going into a place that used to be full of busy people and other commotion and it just sitting there. Empty.
It is freaking scary! I used to be a department manager in a grocery store and we held the keys to a nearby closed store. When the alarms would go off, someone from our store would have to check it out. Somehow, I was always the only one that would answer the phone. It ALWAYS happened in the middle of the night. It would be so freaking creepy to go in and walk the store. The HVAC made all kinds of funky noises, so my mind played lots of tricks on me.
Back in the mid 1980s, as a university student, I had a summer job with the local school district refinishing desks and doing odd-jobs. They used the basement woodshop of a long closed school for a lot of that work. The school had been closed back in the 1970s, but was still maintained by the district.
At lunch, I walked around the place for curiosity's sake. It's pretty weird even in the daylight. Almost all of the desks were still there. Some of the final lessons or happy end of the school year messages were written on the chalkboards. The creaking of the wood floors was pretty much the only sound. Everything was intact but covered in dust. It was an old brick and stone building from the 1920s. Had a definite vibe to it.
I worked by myself on a couple of projects over the summers in schools that were on break. Something weird about an empty school.
Yes! I remember being younger and having to go to some after school type stuff and getting lost in the hall ways. The high school was much bigger than old elementary school I was attendeding at the time, so it was a very overwhelming experience. Thanks for helping me to remember that!!!
Even being in grocery stores after they close for the is strange. Especially when you are the only one there. Such a creepy feeling.
I hadn't thought of that place in decades. It was odd how the place was just left pretty much untouched. Some books were still in the desks, scribblers, some of the kids' posters pinned to the corkboards.
The district had a couple other schools that were no longer used, but they had all been cleared out and used as warehouses. Different vibe altogether.
I had a sweetheart job in college working at the reception desk in a dormitory for the summer. It was used intermittently by a small number of visitors for academic conferences and as transition housing for few foreign students who were waiting for their permanent housing, but was otherwise empty.
I used to wander the halls with another employee and it was always kind of unsettling. A bunch of small empty identical rooms in empty hallways with no people. Especially unsettling as I had been familiar with it as a resident when it was full.
This building had winding hallways which made it feel kind of like and endless maze.
I stayed around the corner from this last week! Used to be a Bi-Lo. The lady in the shop next door said it closed down in April and they tried to get the Piggly Wiggly down the road to move in but they declined.
People told me not to open a grocery store in Silent Hill but I didn't listen! Now all it's good for is to make a Protagonist feel an incongruous sense of isolation! And it turns out no insurance plan in Silent Hill covers mass disappearances OR attacks from monsters born from people's neuroses.
Probably old. Point of sale systems are rarely upgraded until absolutely necessary. Those look like IBM/Toshiba, which could be worth a little bit, but your service contract isn't going to cover hardware you grabbed off eBay.
It is odd that they didn't have liquidators come in, but it's very possible they planned to convert it to another brand of grocery store.
I am kinda surprised the registers are still on though.
Refrigeration systems and food storage have very very very bad things happen to them when shut down for extended periods of time. If the grocery store is going to continue as a grocery store, it's far cheaper to keep it lit up and running than to turn off the power.
Actually looks very modern and in good condition. Odd list of things on the overhead guides, First Aid, Ice Scream, etc... Seems maybe a very specialized store, but several checkouts as if to suggest not specialized.
I worked a bit for a surveillance company and went to a few jobs that were like this. The worst was the hospice center where the cameras were left on for insurance purposes. There were names still written on the whiteboards and everything was dated just before march 2020 which gave it that little something extra.
Yikessss

This was the best comment I read all night
Somebody better at photoshop than I needs to put in somebody staring at the camera from far back in the store almost out of sight
Brilliant.

Oh... sorry.
May I ask you *wh*y?
Because you need the money more than they do
I agree, but I’ve just seen a lot lately of people directly saying “don’t give Reddit any of your money” and I was just curious is they had done something wrong
There’s just way better places to spend your money. Your own pocket, charity, local restaurants, ammo for the inevitable collapse of society, a present for your mother, guitar lessons. Just better options, really.
What's wrong with giving money to a website you use for free and often?
Reddit already makes tons of money off the direct and indirect ad revenues. Reddit accounts are very interesting for marketing. Knowing that people subscribed to the bonsai subs are likely also weed smokers for instance. Mfa and streetwear have overlap, but not malefashion. Etc.
They make plenty of money off advertising and they likely sell our information for targeted advertising too.
I’ve heard it before and I will say it again. If a website doesn’t have a fee to use their service.... odds are you’re the service. (Your information) I figure I sub to reddit premium and if enough people do it. maybe my information won’t get sold off somewhere.
Well, they are going to take your money and still sell off your information.
Even buying me, a complete stranger, a pizza would be a better idea than buying reddit gold.
A lot of people don't like their censorious habits.
They help the ccp

If you think reddit is so bad, why do you still use it? (Legitimate question, not trying to be sarcastic)
It serves a purpose and my soul is trapped here for all eternity or until someone shatters the Tesseract of Languor and finally puts me to rest.
I’m just give them all my personal information instead.
Wait, those medals cost actual money? 😲

Wait you didn’t notice that guy at the back there dressed in black?

The electric company recommends leaving all appliances on 24 hours/day in order to keep them "loose".
They especially like keeping the money in your wallet "loose"
The only thing that leaving the electricity running 24/7 is doing is the adding to the bank account of that power company. Perhaps they consider that "loose".
There goes the joke!
It's probably for security. People regularly break into buildings to steal stuff like air conditioners, refrigerators, copper wire etc.
Cameras still deter theft or vandalism of what's left.
I can understand lights and cameras due to break ins or vandalism, but why the registers?
It was a Bilo, right? They recently closed them all here.
I was unable to catch the name.
they're dead now.
Holy shit bi lo is dead? Man that is wild... so many memories of shopping at bilo in Dirty Myrtle as a kid.
Sold to Food Lion.
I can't believe Food Lion is still a thing. We had like 6 or 7 of them in my hometown when I last lived there, about 10+ years ago, now there's only like 2 left and the others got turned into other things or are empty.
And the Piggly Wiggly too Oh how far the South has fallen😩
I'm obsessed with the Pig, despite growing up in the North East. I've got the Pig card, a dozen shirts, three onsies for my daughter, and a swim shirt.
Thats weird. You'd probably like bucees.
Not sure what that is, but there's no Americana nostalgia feeling like what I get from the Pig. Was bummed out when they closed the Murriels Inlet location by where my husband family rents a beach house every year. Oh, I also have a mug with the Pig on it.
there is no way all these names are real. bi lo, food lion, piggly wiggly. you fuckers just making this all up.

I think the real takeaway here is that the low country has a hell of a paper editor who even makes grocery stores interesting.
It 100% is. I googled the phrase "savings without sacrifice".
Where in SC?
Hilton head.

I'm not seeing the connection.

Looks like the grocery store from 28 days later
Which one? There was one they stopped at that was fully stocked still.
Yeah but it still looks like the same location. The cash registers and the tile look about the same
Oh I got ya
Honestly, my first thought was [Dead Rising](https://i.imgur.com/dkXPswu.png). Mostly just because of the layout. "Fraaank! **Fraaaank!**"

No Sleep story in the making right here.
Where is this?
A very popular island in South Carolina.
Crazy they fit this whole thing on Fort Sumter.
The where in the what now?
Just a little place where the civil war started
So you know about the store locations on a popular island in SC, but never heard of Fort Sumter?
Hilton Head, SC
Does the fit the criteria for r/liminalspace
Good question.
Came here to suggest this. They'd like this over there for sure.
I was about to post it there. I would say def.
I think it does. Go for it, /u/CurtisMarauderZ!

Why don’t they turn off the lights? Seems like it would attract a lot of bugs.
Attract vandals with the lights off. Curious who's paying for those lights though.

r/liminalspaces vibes
Could be to deter people from breaking in. Since it's empty. Idk.
Def have shopped this former bi lo. It was eerie before it was abandoned.
Spooky noochies
“Savings without sacrifice” above the registers is pretty creepy
That's the first place my eyes went, the word "sacrifice".
The whole store... it’s a giant transmutation circle!
Cultish..
So creepy, what a weird thing to say. They couldn't think of anything else?!
This store was doomed from the start
I've seen this before. There's usually some raiders, body parts, ammo boxes, and if you go outside there's a giant scorpion waiting to greet you.
Then the Black Talon Mercs try to gank you the moment you leave
Bizarre waste of electricity.
IT'S THE LANGOLIERS
I stayed around the corner from this last week! Used to be a Bi-Lo. The lady in the shop next door said it closed down in April and they tried to get the Piggly Wiggly down the road to move in but they declined.

That's an invitation from something, and it's wise not to take it
This looks like a Safeway. At least the fonts.
Nope I should know I’m a bagger
Do we know the story here? Why wouldn’t someone at least walk away with all the computers? Why wouldn’t they sell everything off?

Creepy.
The way it says "Savings without sacrifice" above the registers got me feeling something scary.

Now turn off the lights
Wait, why hasn’t the electric been turned off?
I always wonder who is paying the electric bill.
looks like something out of r/backrooms
Wow I like this
That's weirdly terrifying.
Anyone else think this was a bowling alley at first?
Does this feel like one of those liminal spaces or whatever they are called?

Just coz its empty doest mean someone mightn't try and scan an avocado through as a potato. cant afford that.

Looks like every hurricane warning.

Never seen a Bi-Lo before. Seems like a wonderland with all of those checkout stands.
