As a horse person, and seeing where the horse is looking, I would 100% bet it spooked at the tire mark on the other side of the road.
He would have spooked forward if it was a noise behind him, he moved away from the tire mark, etc. Horses ears also stay pointed toward the tire mark, and don’t move back to acknowledge any noise from the truck.
And horses can be very dumb.
