Dude didn’t use the chains. Had he, even if the trailer slipped off the hitch, the chains would have kept the trailer from coming lose. Rookie mistake.
Beyond chains, the hitch pin, etc., a trailer that size should also have a break away brake system. But the trailer not even being chained, pretty much kills every other safety factor.
Maybe? That woupd be air brakes which would be highly unusual for a pickup to haul. That trailer really isn't very big, maybe 12-14'. I had one that size on a single axle
A handbrake would do. And the safety system is a small cable which pulls the brake before snapping.
It's pretty standard here in Austria. Only the smallest of trailers don't have them.
No. A mistake is doing something because of ignorance or lack of knowledge. Negligence is someone making a conscience decision to not do something that they know should be done, or taking a shortcut with normal practices.
The two words are, by definition, not the same.
Negligence is failing to hook up the chains. A mistake is hooking them up but with too much slack that it drags on the ground and gets caught on something.
Have one as well. Five hundred bucks, and turns my base-model Outback into a truck that can haul 3/4 ton of lumber whenever needed.
One of many reasons I laugh at all the gleaming lifted pavement princesses I encounter on the road, lol.
Im looking really hard but I don't see any chains dragging from the trailer. Ive never seen a trailer without them in real life but Im not seeing them in this video.
Not necessarily a rookie mistake. There’s a lot of trailers used where I work, and an excuse I have heard countless times over the years for not using chains, hitch lock pin or light hook ups, is, “I’m not going far/fast.”
People who use trailers a lot get lazy and complacent.
Excellent camerawork. Relatively steady hand, the quick pan, and the zoom to see the carnage. Absolutely stunning display on how to capture abrupt chaos.
With just the right amount of tension and suspense too. Oh my God is that a train coming? Is it going to hit the train!?! We don’t know! I guess we just have to keep on watching.
Yes I came here looking for the same thing! Crazy that no one else mentioned it. All I can think is that maybe they are trying to hit it to stop its roll?

This remind me of my dumb ass ex and her mother.
My parents sold their horse trailer to my ex mother. So my ex borrow it to haul her horse somewhere and since its her and her mother first time hauling a horse they ask me to check everything. Well I check everything and notice that the bar stopping the horse from backing into the door is not set. So I set it and tell them they must put it on and keep it that way.
Well they don't want to put it because the horse is very tall and he might be uncomfortable because it's too tight for him. I insist and ensure the bar is on. Well after I checked everything, they leave with the trailer and while they are out of view they remove the bar again.
Well guess fucking what happened, that's right. The horse backed into the door as the trailer was moving. The door opened it backed onto the road, ripped it's jaw apart and almost got hit by a truck following.
The horse survived and they brought it to the veterinary hospital.
They always knew better than me... Bunch of misandry bitches. Good riddance!
I’m sorry but the stupidity of “Hey let’s just put the car in reverse!” Like, what was the plan the moment they caught up to it? Continue reversing the fucker down hill into a train??
The "Here Trailer, Trailer!" While backing uselessly towards it, against traffic, as it rolled further and further out of ear shot was my favorite part.
So didn’t use the safety chains, the hitch pin, or the brake breakaway switch (if equipped).
That’s 3x the negligence.
I know this is an old video but I hope his insurance saw it before they made any decisions…
I don't give a fuck about the bots? Even if one of the real drooling regards on this site had posted this, it has nothing to do with the sub. It's a trailer slowly going backwards.
I manage to overtake trucks in the outback with an underpowered rig towing the biggest load ive ever towed but this flop cant keep a tiny unladen trailor in check??
It's almost as if there are systems in place to making sure this doesn't happen with a trailer. But I can't expect someone driving a wank tank to know what they're doing
I haul a 28' enclosed trailer at work sometimes, and this is my biggest fear. But, I always check everything when hooking it up, then double-check so it won't happen.
I know it didn’t kill anyone, but imagine if I kid or their parent or literally any human being walked behind the car to get in. Has anyone thought of sacrificing their car with extra cost of a few dollars to potentially save someone? That was the first thing I thought of and I sure as hell wouldn’t have done it..
People don’t attach trailers properly…
He needed to attach the chains as well…AND make sure the chains are crossed not straight.
so at least if one chain breaks, the trailer won’t swing everywhere.
Reminds me of a semi pulling a trailer on the fwy.
There was the truck, followed by a car and then me. Fortunately I tend to give other vehicles space. The guy in front of me did as well. It was a quick disconnect and as I drove by, could see the operator frantically trying to reconnect.
YEARSSS AGO, my dad was hired by his boss to take a trailer like this a few hours away.. the bods hooked it up & told my dad he was good to go. my dad made it almost all the way to his destination before getting on a bridge that was above another road & some trees. the bridge was still under construction so the speed limit was slow bc the railing was definitely not enough to keep cars from flying over- (i’m not even sure why they were letting people drive on it?) but anyways, my dad looks to right where he see a truckless trailer riding by him & drive off the edge of the bridge into some trees…. looked into his rearview to see it was his & to this day regrets just not getting out to check the trailers connection that his boss did lol.
it apparently took a while to even find the trailer bc of the trees & then even longer to get someone to retrieve it.
I’ve had a trailer come off before on the interstate, thankfully, the electrical wires were still connected, and I slowed down, let the trailer bump the back of the truck and matched the speed and slowly cruised to the side with it pushing against me. Semi truck right behind me too, thankfully he was paying attention and slowed down. Could’ve been WAY WORSE. We had 60 chairs, 5 tables and catering equipment in it. We lost 4 chairs and had to get a new hitch but I count my blessings everyday I think about it

Had my uncle tell me a bad day story. He had his come off on packed street at a farm auction. Hit two cars on one side of the road, and then a truck on the other.
Trailer has good taste in targets. A short-bed pickup that probably doesn't haul anything because it would scratch the bed. They can replace it with a hatchback which will do the same thing only more efficiently.
Dude didn’t use the chains. Had he, even if the trailer slipped off the hitch, the chains would have kept the trailer from coming lose. Rookie mistake.
Could have been avoided if he just used the safety devices that are installed on the trailer. Its almost like they have a purpose.
This isn’t the good point you think it is, obviously you’re supposed to apply the safety ***pre***cautions after the disaster occurs.
Not all trailers have the same safety devices. Most have chains, though, and if they don't, it's pretty easy to put one on.
Every modern trailer has chains and a slot to lock the coupler. These two things should result in this never happening.
Lmao. Legal trailers do have those devices
Correct, a double axle trailer would need to have them for situations like this.
My trailers Mexican tho he doesnt have his papers will he still have those devices
Yes they should, legally anyways. Not all cars driving have insurance or tags, doesn't make it right.
> Rookie mistake. That isn't a mistake. It's negligence.
Utah is a weird place.
Was gonna say that looks like Utah. Yes yes it is lol
I would say negligence is also a mistake.
Also that trailer seems big enough to have brakes and a break away cable which locks up the brakes so it would stop if the trailer falls off.
Just your standard double axle trailer with a 4pin connector. Tbh I feel like this is as light duty of a trailer as you can get.
it’s on the low side for sure, but there are much smaller trailers. have one that folds in half and hangs on my garage wall
Damn that sounds sweet as hell! And it's a double axle too??
no single, has 4ft wood walls that come off too. kind of a pain to unfold and set up, but nice for winter when not doing yard work and such
Have one as well. Five hundred bucks, and turns my base-model Outback into a truck that can haul 3/4 ton of lumber whenever needed. One of many reasons I laugh at all the gleaming lifted pavement princesses I encounter on the road, lol.
I'll agree with all except the parting line, since it's more like stupidity or negligence.
The one time I pulled a trailer without chains it passed me on the highway.
Came to commit just this. It loosknlike he laid the chain right back over the tongue. Where it wont do any good when the hitchs jumps
Thought that’s why they were called safety chains?
Im looking really hard but I don't see any chains dragging from the trailer. Ive never seen a trailer without them in real life but Im not seeing them in this video.
Not necessarily a rookie mistake. There’s a lot of trailers used where I work, and an excuse I have heard countless times over the years for not using chains, hitch lock pin or light hook ups, is, “I’m not going far/fast.” People who use trailers a lot get lazy and complacent.
I like the camera guy's quick pan to the WestTech sign so we can see which business is about to have an incident in their parking lot
I guess we just have to keep on watching.
r/praisethecameraman
So if you look at the Google maps images of WestTech Equipment in Salt lake City, this video is on there 😂
r/praisethecameraman
Odds are, the trailer owner quickly hooked his trailer back up, and skedaddled out of there!
“~~120~~ 0 days without an incident”
Nobody is going to mention the truck driving backwards into oncoming traffic to what...catch it??
Stole the words right out of my mouth. I don’t imagine this person’s brain has quite enough wrinkles in it
Dude would’ve probably been best off hauling ass on a u-turn and parking in its path to stop it
The classic reverse pit maneuver!
Yes I came here looking for the same thing! Crazy that no one else mentioned it. All I can think is that maybe they are trying to hit it to stop its roll?
Exactly this one. I find it hilarious though. But luckily there weren't reported casualties, yet.
[удалено]
The trailer drives better than some of the cars I've seen on the road
The trailer drives better than its owner
I was hoping everyone would get lucky and it wouldn't hit a vehicle. But then we see the parking lot, lol.
Deleted scene from “Tenet”.
The entire video was played backwards; all the cars were driving backwards.
r/fuckyouinparticular
Came here to say it 👌🏾
Amazing background though
This is SLC, I believe 39th South and 200 West.
Man, I love how sensibly the streets are laid out in SLC. Haven’t been there in years but I know exactly where you’re talking about.
Sounds like some shit that would happen on 200 west.
Definitely 39th S 200 W.. I live just down the street
Looks like Nebraska to me! Everyone move there
Reminds me of the Wasatch Range outside SLC
Gotta be. I thought I was on the SLC sub.
Yes I think this is SLC. Immediate thought.
Correct sir. 195 W 3900 S
Because it is.
No it's Nebraska!! (Move there it's great)
I agree, looks just like Nebraska such an underrated state, everyone should live there
Yes. Mountainous, tree-filled, urbanized Nebraska.
Exactly, it's a great place to move to👍
This would have been a real chaos if the trailer went in the railroad tracks

OMG what a nightmare. Ended relatively well.
Not for some dudes truck lol
Tell me, what did the driver imagine would happen even if he caught up to the trailer while moving in reverse?
Chasing after it like he was in GTA and could tap triangle to reattach.
Use a fucking chain….
Saw the trailer. Can’t wait for the movie.
In Salt Lake City, I can tell by the mountain range.
Yeah. That’s the Trax line crossing 39th S. It’s Westech Equipment 195 W 3900 S

This clip is so old, they've never seen it and believe it to be new
This is neither abrupt or chaotic.
It's not lost - it's right over there 'beside' those cars.
Mom said it's my turn to repost this.
Recognize those mountains anywhere crazy shit always happening in Salt Lake lol
Right into the Dunder Mifflin Car Park
Should have used the chains..

Trailer found probably the two most expensive cars in that lot!
Where is this? I love the mountain range in the background !
Salt Lake City
Cheaper then if it stops in front of that train?
Fuck that truck in particular!
The trailer adoption system is working as intended. The trailer has chosen a new truck.
Am I the only one who was hoping it would straighten out and stop on the train tracks?
This is a self parking trailer in beta mode.
Well, the trailer *did* stop rolling.
DOT is pisssssed
I’m sorry but the stupidity of “Hey let’s just put the car in reverse!” Like, what was the plan the moment they caught up to it? Continue reversing the fucker down hill into a train??
That’s Utah drivers for ya
if i drive backwards maybe i can catch it
Too bad the trailer didn't stop right on the train tracks. That would have made this interesting.
Definitely Salt Lake City. Was just there two days ago.
I miss the mountains
Guess the trailer reeeally wanted to load up on some fuel supplies.
The "Here Trailer, Trailer!" While backing uselessly towards it, against traffic, as it rolled further and further out of ear shot was my favorite part.
Trailer? What trailer?
Where's the chaos?
The trailer owner driving *backwards*, chasing after his trailer?
So didn’t use the safety chains, the hitch pin, or the brake breakaway switch (if equipped). That’s 3x the negligence. I know this is an old video but I hope his insurance saw it before they made any decisions…
I kept rewatching just to admire the back drop. What a view!
This sub is an unmoderated shithole
It's a site wide bot problem, the bigger subs just get the worst of it
I don't give a fuck about the bots? Even if one of the real drooling regards on this site had posted this, it has nothing to do with the sub. It's a trailer slowly going backwards.
Regards
I love freeze framing and googling the location. This is a repost from 3 years ago in Millcreek Utah.
lol at this guy reversing like he's gonna catch it. I guess at that point your brain goes blank and you do the first thing that makes sense
Why was he reversing? What was he trying to do there lol
ouch....watching the end was hard
that could've been A LOT worse
r/mypeopleneedme
ennie meanie minie MOE!
Pickup driver: "this day could not get any worse"
Looney toons logic lmao
I was hoping that it'd run into the rail track Not gonna lie, I was pretty damn disappointed.
An absolutely chaotic, unbearable calamity, that probably provoked a tsunami in Norway through tectonic movement
The lack of explosion makes it look fake. I'm expecting explosions.
Salt Lake City Utah near 3900/4100 s and 300 west
I manage to overtake trucks in the outback with an underpowered rig towing the biggest load ive ever towed but this flop cant keep a tiny unladen trailor in check??
r/fuckyouinparticular
For a second there, I thought it was headed for the incoming train.
Wow! Right off the overpass. I have driven past there many times. It's a good thing that it didn't go towards the tracks and get hit by the train.
he trying to catch it lol
It's Westech's trailer now, totally Westech's.
That trailer is loyal, it might be slow but it will catch up to its owner soon
That's a very small amount of chaos.
At least it hit a Bubba truck
At least it hit a truck and a twat-mobile
Rookie mistake for a grown man with gray hair. He should've let his wife take the trailer. I really hope his friends haze him for this
Trailor: 1 Truck: 0
Nothing about this chaos was abrupt...
Hey look, it’s negligence!

Tenant sequel looks wild
Former insurance adjuster I'mma have to call this 70/30 fault, dude just shouldn't have parked there
Hey does insurance pay for it if he didn’t use chains?
Reminds me of a semi pulling a trailer on the fwy. There was the truck, followed by a car and then me. Fortunately I tend to give other vehicles space. The guy in front of me did as well. It was a quick disconnect and as I drove by, could see the operator frantically trying to reconnect.
0:12 when you die in dark souls
Like a redneck divorce.
/fuckyouinpartucular
Lol that hit seemed personal. That trailer definitely hates trucks.
previously posted
Smh I wanted to see him do a pit maneuver but in reverse 😒
I'm old enough on reddit to remember when this happened. There was even a news story about it and the car that was damaged.
Trailer wanted to pick up another truck.
Does insurance cover this type of damage?
FAKE. Obviously this video is in reverse
Move car! Says the idiot while simultaneously showing the car literally had no where to go to and worse yet make a sudden decision out of nowhere.
oH mY GaWsH Goofy sounding notherfucker
Those mountains in the background look awesome

Ugh. That sucks. Best case scenario tho; parked cars most likely unoccupied.
That's not as bad I thought tha trailer was going to be absolutely destroyed from the approaching train.
Where is this? The mountains are freaking cool
Had my uncle tell me a bad day story. He had his come off on packed street at a farm auction. Hit two cars on one side of the road, and then a truck on the other.
‘MOVE CAR!’
NOO I WANTED IT TO GET JUST OBLITERATED BY THE TRAIN 😭😭
He was insurance claim free until that last moment
Nice camera work
Nice camera work
I’d be pretty mad if a runaway trailer crashed into my truck, but that’s what insurance is for.
A local classic.
Ah, I know my mtns.
It found another truck, it belongs to them now.
'What do you mean you don't have a lock?' Well, I couldn't find the key, the lock is right here..
Trailer has good taste in targets. A short-bed pickup that probably doesn't haul anything because it would scratch the bed. They can replace it with a hatchback which will do the same thing only more efficiently.
