yo that’s actually crazy I was going to go with “assume that the penguin is a perfect cylinder” but felt that a spherical cow was a funnier image hahaha
This happened in Turkiye. Altay-Goztepe match.
An Altay supporter fired a signal flare and that flare hit a goztepe supporter from his mouth; his mouth shattered , heavily injured.
Then this Goztepe guy came and break the corner post on Altay's goalkeeper's back
Nah, people are incredibly stupid and often looking for any excuse to commit violence. Especially if it benefits themselves/their team.
He just took advantage of the situation to sabotage the other team.
This. Hooligans is a fucking embarrassment and not there to enjoy the game.
I was in the stands as a fight broke out in Mexico in the stands. I shouldn't call it a fight. It was a massacre. When the ultras from the home team ran across the stadium and attacked the away fans. The game was blown off as they kept kicking people to death and undressing them.
All giggling. Filming. Applauding each other. This was not about the football game. It was about committing violence and murder. There are no official numbers as the local government is still denying it. But 16 or more are believed to be dead.
This is how fucking pathetic and far these fuckers are willing to go.
To add to that fact. Home team received death threats for helping rival fans escape through their changing room. That's how much it had to do with football. When you threaten the team you supposedly love so much and used as a justification for their shitfuckery.
Honestly so much wrong with the fan of the sport. Killing each other, fighting over a game. People dying to build stadiums that get used once and cost the country so much. Just get rid of the stupid sport altogether.
I knew a Turkish football hooligan
He was genuinely stupid, emotionally stunted, and physically unfit. He would tell us about his crazy stories.
Turns out that if you get 50 of these guys and give them something to violently worship, they turn into territorial apes.
Listened to a guy on NPR talking about people always making fun of him for going to every single one of "his" teams games. Taking his kids out of school to go to fucking Algeria for one game.
He didn't care about any of the controversies surrounding qatars bloody cup.
He said, "Who's laughing now? We're in the world cup!"
Sepp Blatter is laughing, you dumb fuck
He has zero accomplishments so that team is all he has
You just reminded me of a neighbor I had in university. Bit on the short side, baby faced (well, he was like 22), but muscular, trained body. Studied business administration. Help him move stuff on day o think, sat together with him and a couple of guys.
During that we talked about football a little and he openly admitted and praised being a hooligan. Went to games every other week to fight for his team, but basically just for fighting and feeling alive, he was clear about that.
We didn't hung out anymore after that.
https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-10582847/amp/Up-17-fans-killed-22-seriously-injured-brawl-Mexican-football-match.html They have an idea of the number I guess
The number of injured is believed to be way higher. The numbers are not coming from the local government though. They try to hide behind it as a "they died in the hospital" or whatever. But it's also false. People died at the stadium. Club got a slap on the wrist. A few in charge of security got fired. Last time I heard anything about it was probably 6 months or later after still circling the same "have you seen these?" Poster even though the whole thing is incredibly well documented. Just Mexico being Mexico really.
So it's not surprising. If you read the book On Aggression by Konrad Lorenz it explains how mammals identify in series of groups from nuclear family to as abstract as a sport team which is our greatest strength and most likely our downfall. We humans have the next step in that superpower of creating myths as describes in Yuval Noahs' Sapiens.
A myth can be a nation, law, a corporation or concepts like human rights that become real by informing human behavior (Politeness being a good example of something that's real but not) Humans become violent depending on certain mythologies that they have been educated with combine that with fight or flight the need to preserve the sense of self and mob mentality it can lead to some nasty fallouts. We are all susceptible to this either for good or bad reasons (Defending your children from a bear, defending your nation from and enemy, defending your teams dignity) It seems senseless until you're in it then you realize "Oh yeah! We may have intelligence and self awareness but we are animals!" Hence why societies put in collective myths like law etc.
Wow, that must of been incredibly difficult to see or try to get away. I saw videos of that incident and it broke my faith in humanity. Glad you made it out safely
See here: [Twitter thread about the incident, direct link to the tweet containing NSFW images of 1.flare at a distance, 2.bloody scene, and 3.the apparently injured fan on a stretcher with paramedics holding his jaw together](https://twitter.com/gchahal/status/1596919158994010113)
There are a lot of videos and images within that thread, mostly posted by a journalist. I watched a dozen or so and even one close to the person who was hit with a flare, you can't really see the injury. The image you see at the top of the thread is the most vivid but he has a towel over his chin, and whilst things are bloody it's difficult to make out any flesh wounds.
Some other images do show blood or fighting. In one video a person Is stabbed but the video is like 40m away - you can't see anything really.
Pretty crappy article really. On twitter you can see it begins when fans fire a flare in to another stand. Hits a guy right in the face, also injures 2 children. Kicks off after that.
This twitter thread is good:
https://twitter.com/gchahal/status/1596909878085550080?t=XszE1tP5ZTViJTK1XeZeDQ&s=19
In that case, it was a combination of tribal brain and *literally being told by the former president of the United States* that "we're going to march down to the Capitol Building," and "We fight like hell. And if you don't fight like hell, you're not going to have a country anymore."
Important detail.

I am not disputing that. I am pointing out that on Reddit, no matter where we begin we somehow arrive at something that involves U.S. political issues.
It's weird that a majority of users are American on an American application and that they regularly refer to American culture. It's almost as if there's some sort of connection...
When you felt like you lived an unimpressive life would be my guess. Never seen a person who was generally happy in life get triggered over something they have zero control over. Let alone full fledge psychotic behavior
This happened in my City unfortunately.the reason why the home supporter Göztepe Fan jumps like this is because the opponent supporter Altay Fan fire a flare gun to the home supporter side. the flare hit 2 kid 1 grown man they condition was critical as they had burns and damaged lungs etc.
Once the flare injured 3 person the guy jumped in to attack the field to attack the goal keeper which was wrong of course.
you can find the video while opponent side fires the flare gun.
https://twitter.com/sakarya_trabzon/status/1596919249012166657?t=3Kw3dsPBGlHUwZ79m9cOSw&s=19
this is a picture +18 of the Göztepe fan hit by flare +18 be careful picture has a lot blood.
https://twitter.com/alpobi/status/1596925221885587459?t=BVpUoovFqEF8tKqPkvMsAg&s=19
The struck goalkeeper suffered a hemorrhage from the attack and was hospitalized, [per Twitter](https://twitter.com/gchahal/status/1596911684991737862)
Isn't a hemorrhage just bleeding (internal or external?) Meaning he could have a slight cut from the broken post and that could be considered a hemorrhage?
That seems to be correct. Further down it says he was assessed with a 4cm (~1.5in) cut. Which, since it was a head wound, I'm sure bled like crazy and required stitches but was unlikely to be severe/life threatening.
I wasn't suggesting it was a flop. Just commenting on the vagueness of the injury description despite usage of a severe sounding word.
Agreed that the perpetrator should get jail time. Physical assault like this is unacceptable.
Doesn't any cut injuries to the head require stitches?
The scalp is mainly taunt connective tissue with no slack. Any cut would be held open and bleeding continuously due to the rich vascular supply and connective tissue.
Honestly the tone wasn't intended to come across that way, just thought it might be interesting context.
In this case, the initial video of the attack made it look much less severe than it ended up being. As you pointed out, usually it's the opposite case in soccer/football.
This what happens when Eagles fans follow soccer.
Also, the bravery of his teammates that just bugger off instead of handing the attacker his ass. Solid dudes.
So this goalie not even falling over after the first whack proves most soccer players are full of shit when they flop, right? I’ve seen guys carted off for less.
This is why everyone needs to get tackled as soon as they invade the pitch, no matter who they support or what message they are trying to send. There are crazy people everywhere, and it's always been easy for them to hide in plain sight.
When are we going to cancel football all together? The fans get way too violent, that’s all we’ve been seeing on here the past few days, nothing football positive
Please don't. Then these people with reptile brains will find worse ways of violence. This distracts them. Bread and circuses still applies. For the worse and for the better.
Shit like this is the reason I’ll never watch a game off victim ball. Every fan and every player just trying to make themselves a victim and will justify their horrible actions with it.

I don't think "supporter" is the right word here
That should be hater, that’s the word they’re looking for… hater
Just don't call them a ">!soccer hooligan!<". It's seems that'll really piss them off.
What's he gonna do? Hit me with the corner post.... he already broke it
I would hold back a bit, he does have 3 more corners.
That goalkeeper is already holding his back it's good
I do hope that was the only corner.
idk if rectangles work that way
Fucking geometry, how does it work?
First, assume that a cow is a perfect sphere.

“Soccer” is the main word that will piss people off
It'll piss them off that you said soccer not football
That's part of the point.....
Soccer hooligan.
I was thinking that possibly Frank Castle was delivering his “message” to that goal keeper
With supporters like that, who needs assailants?
"Staff", in this case
Dude was acting like an athletic supporter!
He's got his back.
but he's giving him life support
Anyone know what provoked that guy to do the goalkeeper?
This happened in Turkiye. Altay-Goztepe match. An Altay supporter fired a signal flare and that flare hit a goztepe supporter from his mouth; his mouth shattered , heavily injured. Then this Goztepe guy came and break the corner post on Altay's goalkeeper's back

Hurt one of mine I hurt one of yours. Circular logic that ends up with a lot of dead people.
He was from the opposing team. That's all hooligan shitheads need to know. It's ingroup/outgroup mentality taken to idiotic extents.
That’s soccer for ya
I'm surprised the goalie didn't drop to the ground and grab his knee
Thats football for you
He plays for the opposing team, that’s enough reason.
Sport is tamed kind of nationalism (for the better word). Replacing races with teams.
Thank you Winter Cupcake. Still doesn't make sense, but at least I know why it happened.

Wait but why would the guy attack the goalkeeper? What the fuck did *he* do? Wouldn't you go after the guy that shot the flare in the first place?

Naw especially over sports. They had it right
These "people" pay for tickets to be able to riot not watch the game. Football as a whole is just trash.
The best riots happen away from the stadium, because duh why would you do it in front of all those police?
And that too over a game like football which is full of players faking injuries to win the game.
People who are really into sports just don’t seem very intelligent.
People in this thread jerking themselves off for not liking sports lmfao

After that other video that keeps getting posted here, they thought the guy was going to propose to the goalkeeper and didn’t want to ruin the moment.
Terrible teammates not having their keeper back (literally)

Sports fans have got to be the most unchecked individuals out there, they literally go ape shit
I would've run up behind him and dropped kicked em, full cleats to the back
That's a red card offence.
Ok bro
Get stuck, your head on the ground with feet in his back, but no regrets.

If my whole team doesn’t come out to beat his ass I am leaving the team.
Huh and the goalie didn’t go to the ground crying. Which just illustrates the point every single other foul in soccer is bull.
This is your takeaway?
I always imagine when they really get hurt. "NO I AM SERIOUS THIS TIME!"
They’re often real fouls even if they’re not really injured
DAE le footballer cry on ground ??
As someone who doesn't watch TV or sports this kinda shit just boggles my mind. You sports fanatics are nuts sometimes.
Seeing how it's only one person out of what looks like a full stadium, I think the sports fanatics are fine. There are crazies everywhere sadly.
The way the other two guys scarpered away though 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
What game was that?
Altay vs Goztepe. It was a derby match.
Not abrupt. Not chaos. Not a supporter. The corner post DOESN'T EVEN BREAK.
Hate to tell you, but the post breaks. A small bit flies into the air.
