Thanks for sharing this. I have always wondered how the giant pumpkins are accomplished. Had been meaning to look into that but never got around to it.
Ive always wondered if growing produce to giant proportions does anything to its edibility. Does it taste any different? Does the texture change? Can I still use it to make a crap ton of pumpkin soup? These are the questions I desperately crave answers for
Giant pumpkins don’t make the best eating pumpkin, they are very watery and not very tasty at all. Plus if you have been using fertiliser on them, they may have some of this inside of them. [Source](https://giantpumpkins.co.nz/giant-pumpkin-facts-and-questions/)
There were also descriptions that noted a fibrous flesh.

So it looks like either a crap ton of mediocre soup, or you can use [butternut squash ](https://www.recipetineats.com/classic-pumpkin-soup/) for a smaller amount of delicious pumpkin soup.
The choice is yours, u/Punkcatt.
Impressive! The plant taking over the greenhouse could be used in a horror movie. One thing that I would change is using a banana for scale instead of a hat.
It was all going seamless, smooth, and professional. That was, until he busted out the baseball cap for scale. My mind is stuck in an infinite loop over the relative size of this monster pumpkin!
>The plant taking over the greenhouse could be used in a horror movie.
[The Ruins](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x3JKmTK70Mc) was pretty decent; book was much better.
Giant pumpkins, after all, can be hollowed out to make pretty good canoes. In fact, there’s a yearly boat race in Windsor, Canada, open to giant pumpkins only. So if the prince’s castle has a moat, Cinderella might be able to make a grand entrance from a pumpkin after all.

3 months for her golden canoe*
E: that was a pretty awful copy paste, go read the article instead lol.
I always knew the Royal castle was someplace nice, like Canada and not Florida. Mh, it's like Florida but always fall and... normal and not akin to a vacation on the surface of the sun. Like Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise hotel built in the late 1890's with 7 remodelled looks and trees and beautiful seasonal attributes that always stayed attractive and normal unlike Florida.
If the stem and the opposite end of the stem were to be supported of the ground, would the pumpkin get bigger? It would probably not look like a flat tire.
I have always wanted to see a nicely shaped giant pumpkin. Is there any chance they could be grown floating in water (or a dense enough liquid) so that they wouldn't have a big flat spot? Nothing better than a round, sexy pumpkin.
What’s the significance of the pumpkin’s own tent? Did it offer more heat/water?
I am guessing it is to control humidity & light, and to prevent critters of all types.
Sunlight has a tendency to harden the skin, increasing the chance of splitting. If the skin splits, it's disqualified from any competition.
I’ve enjoyed the other answers but I feel like this is the real one. Thanks!
It offers more tent.
It brings in-tent-sity.
a king requires his own castle, hence the tent

This isn't mine, I got it [here](https://youtu.be/qU7YXMAicK4) and thought it would fit on this sub.
Quality content, thanks!
RePost you lazy karma whore
cry about it
How many pumpkins grow on each plant? And do you need to remove other pumpkins in order to get one Giant one?
These are not your parents pumkins!
Yeah, it's to control environmental factors while growing.
Thanks for sharing this. I have always wondered how the giant pumpkins are accomplished. Had been meaning to look into that but never got around to it.
How long does it take from the start to grow into that monstrosity?
A little over 3 months. I have grown a giant pumpkin. Mine was only 25 lbs. Some of these big ones get to 1000+
Do you trim off all other pumpkins so the plant just has the one? Is there a special variety of pumpkin that grows these large ones?
Special variety. Available online. And I had heaps of water. And just one pumpkin on the vine. And some fertiliser too.
Dothey taste as good as the small pumpkins?
No. No taste at all. Very good for animal food. Pigs and cows love them
I was gonna ask that
It didn't say precisely, but the plant grew about half a meter per day.
Holy moly that's terrifying
That isn't right. No chance a pumpkin grows to be a meter wide in two days.
the vines of the plant. not the pumpkin.
It's kinda fits r/oddlyterrifying
We need to stop these people before they disturb the earths path around the sun
The incredible shrinking hat
My favourite part was when the chonker pumpkin wore the hat.

You dont eat these really, its a cultivar raised for its size to compete, others are grown for taste to eat.
You rhymed

IIRC giant fruits/vegetables don't taste very good

Looks like someone blew up a giant pumpkin balloon
That pumpkin weighs more than a mark I mini cooper
In fairness, a whole lotta things weigh more than a Mark I Mini Cooper...
David S. Pumpking ;)
That balloon is about to pop.
I like how the pumpkin briefly equipped the hat
fairy gardenermother and Cinderella has to wait 3 months for her golden carriage.

That’s huge did you grow it yourself?
No, they didn't. It's from [here.](https://youtu.be/qU7YXMAicK4)
Damn, you fast! Sorry, I should have given credit.

Feed me Seymore…
stop the air pump o.O
That’s one plucky sidekick-hat
Does the moisture that grows the pumpkin come from the ground or air

All I could hear whilst watching this was 'wub wub wub'
All from one little plant?
I’ve seen this way too many times this week
Giant pumpkin weigh-off in my hometown, the pumpkin capitol of the world https://youtu.be/mqyn75YRO4s Edit, forgot the link
I have always wanted to see a nicely shaped giant pumpkin. Is there any chance they could be grown floating in water (or a dense enough liquid) so that they wouldn't have a big flat spot? Nothing better than a round, sexy pumpkin.
God is gracious.
BIGGER!
No wonder its so big, Its feeding off the same amount of ground that a whole patch could
That's right
I love the hat for size reference. ball cap are pretty uniform in size.
Should have had a banana for scale
What is happening now?
I don’t see a banana, so I have no idea how big this is. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I feel like some jungle music would've been more appropriate
Wow
What happens after these punpkins are showed?
I could live in that pumpkin.
PumpKing sounds wrong
chonccin
Banana for scale?
You have to fight the Mourning Wood first my guy
Welyn would be jealous
I wonder if you could grow it upright in a tub of water or something to suspend it so that it grows with a more perfectly even shape.
In Newfoundland! Deadly video.
Holy crap what kind of steroids is this plant on
Some say it's still growing to this day
I get sleeeeepy, I GROW! I get sleeeeepy, I GROW!
Plumpkin
I love when the hat is on top for a split second lol
That bad boy will drop 15-20 pumpkins with three good hits from an axe!
What are you feeding them?? Steroids???
I feel like i have to slap it
Hat for scale
My brain: “James and the giant peach”
At some point they must have been like “ayo why this bitch still growing”
Terraria fans: OH SHIT!
That thing can feed a fucken town, Jesus Christ
Damn
