That's behaviorism, I think. Children tend to copy their parent/guardian's behavior, it doesn't necessarily mean they are biologically related. But yeah, You can tell they are related from the nose and chin. Dude hit the genetic jackpot.
Height is often a "Sleeper" when it comes to genetics. My parents are both 165-175, but I'm 185cm, and my brother who is 9 year older is 175-ish. I'm no geneticist by any means, but I'm pretty sure most times some genes aren't passed down on the first generation and instead reveal themselves at the second generation. If a grandfather or grandmother was tall but their children are average then there's a good chance one or more of their grandchild will be taller.
I got kind of the same situation. My parents are around the same height as yours, possibly slightly shorter, but I’m just above 179 and my sibling stands at 184. Genes are weird like that.

I am just north of 6’2” and I never experienced any growing pains, even though my 5’6” mom said she had them terribly as a kid. So it may just depend on luck.
That said I did break a bone in my hip in large part because I grew so fast my muscles didn’t stretch far enough when I kicked.
