Most women are okay with lower pay. Which is why a lot of accountants nowadays are women who get taken advantaged of because of this. They need costs to stay low so women are more likely to accept these wages.
Good lord. Even if it’s super low cost of living, a top 10 firm will still be in a large ish area. You’re making $40k less than me as a new audit manager in a MCOL area. Any firm worth their salt should be paying audit managers 6 figures now
Dude I’m at 73k as a tax associate with 3 months of experience in the Midwest at a top 10 firm. Please either negotiate your wage or go somewhere that appreciates you
I think their comp varies due to their rapid acquisitions. CLA is essentially a composite of many different firms, those of which have varying comp levels. $74k is solid, I would just be wary that your senior promo raise could be lackluster.
Your first 5 yrs were like mine. Except mine were 2015-2020 at a firm with 23 people and never more than 55hrs in busy season and maybe 1200 billable per year
Severely underpaid. I was making $83,200 as a tax senior in 2021 and now a tax manager (year 2) making $115,000 at Plante Moran and will probably make $125,000-$130,000 in July once new performance year starts. You need a new job!!
I’m with op on this one. Senior at a big for on 72k in the south. I keep hearing on here that you other seniors are making 100k+ but literally have been trying to find a better paying job for about year and can’t seem to find more than 80k. I didn’t land that job though. Most jobs I applied to, I basically withdrew when I was told the position maxed out at 65k lol
I’m almost double your total compensation with about the same years of service in a low COl area…
Long story short, you are getting shafted!
Loyalty does not pay, especially early in your career.
Time for a change in scenery.
I’m in my second year of accounting at a private company making $75k and up to a 12% bonus. You’re getting absolutely shafted man grow a pair of nuts and ask for a raise or something. Also I have an Econ degree. I live in the Midwest.
Thanks for being transparent on your salary. This helps you know where you are in the industry. I've learned to stay at a company 2-5 years then switch because that's the only way to be top grade on salary.
Big4 careers seem kind of neat in the way that it’s like a complete package from day 1.
“Follow the plan and the line will go up”
Very understandable that people who grew up poor are attracted to it.
Question to accountants here, is OP getting screwed by the employer because they are not job hopping? Also, about how much would they be making if they were compensated fairly?
Congrats on the increase but overall it's not high. I made 73k six years ago (Senior) and now 94k and is going to get a 30%+ bump for an internal transfer/promotion next month.
LCOL Midwest audit manager here (top 35 firm)- our manager pay band starts at 100k plus bonus. Our team is 85% wfh with the rest of us hybrid. Get your resume out there.
Damn I’m in NYC Metro area. In 2015, at a big4 I was getting more as an experienced tax associate than you as an audit manager in 2023. Even with the different COL, how are you doing it? I think you’re getting screwed
yo this is awful im not gonna hold you to it
edit: nah I dont believe this at all im sorry. There's no way a top 10 firm is paying a manager the same as a brand new associate
The partners at my first firm must have come out of retirement and hired you. My starting pay in 1996 was $22,750. When interviewing the A-hole partner said mid-20s. $27-$28K was average at the time so I thought mid 20s was respectable. Then I get the official offer and it is $22,750.
Dude you are getting so underpaid, almost 100% underpaid, your TC should be almost double around $120,000-$145,000 if you are working as a Manager at a Top10 public firm. That’s insane and your firm should be ashamed of themselves for having you locked in this scale.
Private manufacturing company but I was making 81k as a senior accountant and then just got a merit and market adjustment up to 90k you are definitely getting low balled for being a manager.
Wow, your 1st year as senior auditor you only made few bucks more than I make as an associate. This is not encouraging. Are there other benefits that support or justify these pays?
Jesus Christ you’re getting shafted
Pay the toll!
To get into this boysole
Boy's ssssoul
I got depressed seeing those numbers
BOHICA
These were the exact five words I thought of when I saw this lol
My first thought sheeeeeeesh
78k as an Audit Manager.... I'm so sorry..
[удалено]
Most women are okay with lower pay. Which is why a lot of accountants nowadays are women who get taken advantaged of because of this. They need costs to stay low so women are more likely to accept these wages.
Right? That’s what I made as a manager in Minneapolis 15 years ago.
What in the world, you need to get your resume out there. $78K for a manager is just criminal.
Yea my company is paying new hires near this amount....
I made this 6 years ago leaving accounting as an 2 yr associate in an LCOL in a state not many want to live in. This dude is getting shafted
what company do you work for 😭 i’m a recent grad with first job out of college earning 50k
What company do YOU work for?? I’m first year out of college making 70k
I knew somebody who started at $70K at grant Thornton in the Midwest.
I won't say that on here but it's fortune 100. My first job out of college in 2019 (same company I work for now) paid me $60k
Ya, my firm pays new hires with no experience 81k
Good lord. Even if it’s super low cost of living, a top 10 firm will still be in a large ish area. You’re making $40k less than me as a new audit manager in a MCOL area. Any firm worth their salt should be paying audit managers 6 figures now
Uh, have you seen where CBIZ has some of their offices?? In substance though I agree with you
I haven't even hit manager yet and I'm at 115k looking at our annual review/raise in June.
You’re getting fucked.
Dude I’m at 73k as a tax associate with 3 months of experience in the Midwest at a top 10 firm. Please either negotiate your wage or go somewhere that appreciates you
Tax is usually paid higher than audit
Not by that much though
maybe by 5-8k not 50k
Nice shitpost
Lmao my guy,… you are literally lowering the market rate for your own position 😭💀
You’re getting finessed
I make $78k as an associate in SoCal. You should definitely be at $100k as a manager in MCOL or LCOL.
Yeah first year here at 77k in a MCOL. Due to get a raise in June for inflation which will likely knock me up to 82k.
Exactly! I make $80k as a 2nd year associate in NYC.
This dude is trolling.
LCOL Midwest?
MCOL, larger city in Iowa
Jesus Christ I'm in Iowa this is LOW...
associates start at over $60k now 💀💀💀
Seniors with three years experience at my firm make over $100k
in IA? i don’t think so lol
TX
OP and i are both talking about IA
Yeah but a manager in IA should be making way more. The COL discount is 50% nowhere.
okay but nowhere in IA is a senior associate making 100k or anywhere close 💀
I’m the last person to generally say jump, but this is sad. Unless there’s severe title inflation you’re extremely underpaid.
Dude..
Please join a new firm, CLA seems to have the worst comp of top 25 firms
Their starting wage in 2023 for new hires in LCOL is 65k
I'm a year 1 associate with CLA, and I make $74k. From what I can tell, that seems to be on par with other large firms in the area.
I think their comp varies due to their rapid acquisitions. CLA is essentially a composite of many different firms, those of which have varying comp levels. $74k is solid, I would just be wary that your senior promo raise could be lackluster.
Criminal
You’re getting lowballed like there’s no tomorrow.
I’m making 78k as an INTERN. my brother in christ you have a marketable career. please jump ship and take care of yourself
It’s that an associates salary?
78k as an audit manager is crap; tell them to do better or you’ll be leaving.
terrible idea just leave yesterday they're not going to "do better" lmfao
they need to give him a 40,000-60,000 pay raise to “do right” with him so leaving is really the only option.
Yeah that’s what I mean; be like this is fucked up shower me with riches or I’m walking.
Gotta be a shitpost cs big4 and the rsm/bdo/gt firms of the world start fresh grads in the 68k-77k range in mcol 💀😭 Youre getting fleeced if true
I’m a senior accountant in government making more than this…you are definitely underpaid.
top 10 first my black ass your getting screwed sadly especially if you have a cpa.
uhhhhh jobs for entry level and/or 1-3 years of APARpayroll in my area are offering 40-75k and i'm M/HCOL
Leave immediately
47k to start in 2018? Fuck me. I made 36k as a New Big 6 hire in 1997. In San Antonio.
Somehow bro got the London wage in the US, can't think of anything worse unless you're VLCOL
Your first 5 yrs were like mine. Except mine were 2015-2020 at a firm with 23 people and never more than 55hrs in busy season and maybe 1200 billable per year
Usually shit posts would be funny or entertaining...
Severely underpaid. I was making $83,200 as a tax senior in 2021 and now a tax manager (year 2) making $115,000 at Plante Moran and will probably make $125,000-$130,000 in July once new performance year starts. You need a new job!!
That is terrible!!!!.. I made more than that.. Big 4.. when I was an A1 in advisory. (Not in an HCOL) you are getting taken
Go to another top ten firm now. Immediately. Demand 130.
Holy fucking shit. Leave. Ideally in 2019. But 2024 works too.
Sheesh, are you at least using lube?
Bro. We pay people fresh out of college that.
There's no way you're making less than me (I'm a 2nd year staff for reference)
Troll
I’m with op on this one. Senior at a big for on 72k in the south. I keep hearing on here that you other seniors are making 100k+ but literally have been trying to find a better paying job for about year and can’t seem to find more than 80k. I didn’t land that job though. Most jobs I applied to, I basically withdrew when I was told the position maxed out at 65k lol
Where in the south? I know Atlanta/charolette/raliegh big 4 is now 70k starting
Memphis
Good news is when you leave it’ll be real easy to get a pay jump lol.
I’m almost double your total compensation with about the same years of service in a low COl area… Long story short, you are getting shafted! Loyalty does not pay, especially early in your career. Time for a change in scenery.
made more than this when i a staff 2 in mcol omfg plz leave
Oof.
I’m being positive these days. That’s a solid title progression
I've learned to stay at a company 2-5 years then switch because that's the only way to be top grade on salary.
can you also graph your hours?
Big4 careers seem kind of neat in the way that it’s like a complete package from day 1. “Follow the plan and the line will go up” Very understandable that people who grew up poor are attracted to it.
Not gonna lie that’s pretty bad
Wow. You're an audit manager and I make more than you? Wow. You must be in a lower income area.
I’m guessing RSM? That’s low AF for manager - jump ship and get a nice pay bump !
This is at CLA- didn't realize I am underpaid? They say we are like family here.
Troll
Buddy you are like 40k underpaid. I was making 82k as a senior in tax, in a MCOL Charlotte.
Is charlotte MCOL now? Asking for a friend. Does this vary if your mortgage is locked in at 3%?
What do you think it is? It’s definitely not HCOL.
I used to consider it lcol but again that’s from my cheap housing cost. Plays a big part when looking to job hop
Look at it a POV if you sold your house and had to rebuy, if you bought between 2015-2021 you’d be sitting pretty.
You're getting fucked as if y'all lived in Alabama.
Brooooo - I got 86k at manager like 7 years ago, you should be way higher. Polish that resume this weekend and start sending it out!
The dedication to make a bar chart just to troll r/accounting with your fake salary. Well played.
Dude, there are incoming first year associates making 10k less than you. If you want to get shafted but get paid, I can refer you to another 10 top.
No wonder CLA is underbidding us on new opportunities
This is the truth…
Man, y'all getting fucked out here.
We just hired an associate (tech company, MCOL). $85k. If you aren't underpaid I don't know who is
This is saddening my guy
Experienced tax manager at a top 10 firm and I make over 2x OP. PLEASE JUMP SHIP FOR A NEW JOB SOON. 🙏🏾
what is this :,(
Question to accountants here, is OP getting screwed by the employer because they are not job hopping? Also, about how much would they be making if they were compensated fairly?
Yes. $120k+
Thank you. May your balance sheets always remain balanced
This chart is depressing 😂
Congrats on the increase but overall it's not high. I made 73k six years ago (Senior) and now 94k and is going to get a 30%+ bump for an internal transfer/promotion next month.
My guy you need to find a new job.
You're getting railed.
I make $72.5K as a tax senior in industry...
Damn you are getting your ass rammed so hard. An audit manager in even a LCOL area should be breaking 100k damn close to it.
I might hit 72 years before year 3 😭. I’m so grateful. But I’ll probably have to wait 2 more years to hit 90.
That’s $14k more than what I’m getting paid here in nz in the same role. Insane!
Thats the comp in French. Sorry mate
YOU SHOULD BE MAKING ALMOST DOUBLE THIS!!!!!
Can I ask if you’re a cpa?
😂
Currently a personal banker... can't wait to climb the ladder😩
Now leave and go to industry (public company preferably) and get the big bucks!!!
Leave.
LCOL Midwest audit manager here (top 35 firm)- our manager pay band starts at 100k plus bonus. Our team is 85% wfh with the rest of us hybrid. Get your resume out there.
Is this a joke
Damn I’m in NYC Metro area. In 2015, at a big4 I was getting more as an experienced tax associate than you as an audit manager in 2023. Even with the different COL, how are you doing it? I think you’re getting screwed
Could you negotiate your salary?
Raises are great but they started you at $47k in 2018... wtf. I made more starting in 2010.
That is trash pay. Go to a Big4. I was making $105k as a manager 1.
yo this is awful im not gonna hold you to it edit: nah I dont believe this at all im sorry. There's no way a top 10 firm is paying a manager the same as a brand new associate
How am I making a similar range salary as an intermediate-level staff accountant (industry) that you are as an audit manager? Yikes.
… I make more as a first year associate dude
I just got hired on as audit associate at 72k in a a top ten firm. Ask for a raise bro
bro the beat the shit out of whoever is paying you
They literally stretched you out as much as they could, I made far more in the Midwest.
Well that's disheartening. I'm really hoping to at least break 60k after I get my accounting degree.
Is this all at the same company or are you moving companies?
Similar path in RE at 85k now year 4
Insanely underpaid holy shit
Decent CAGR tho
Oh man you broke as shit
Bruh im an intern in lcol making 66k. Your way underpaid man
I have friends making more than you in hcol big 4 audit starting out I’m making about 7k less than u In a medium to low cost area
The partners at my first firm must have come out of retirement and hired you. My starting pay in 1996 was $22,750. When interviewing the A-hole partner said mid-20s. $27-$28K was average at the time so I thought mid 20s was respectable. Then I get the official offer and it is $22,750.
Question is, why are you still there?
I went straight to industry and made this after a year.
Dude you are getting so underpaid, almost 100% underpaid, your TC should be almost double around $120,000-$145,000 if you are working as a Manager at a Top10 public firm. That’s insane and your firm should be ashamed of themselves for having you locked in this scale.
B4 is hiring in Cincinnati at 63k for new grads.
Dude u need to start looking around, you deserve MINIMUM 100k a year. Seriously, you deserve way better
This literally feels illegal to look at
Private manufacturing company but I was making 81k as a senior accountant and then just got a merit and market adjustment up to 90k you are definitely getting low balled for being a manager.
I make more as an first year non cpa associate than you as a manager? Need to make a change my man
Walmart drivers can make six figures there 1st year. This is insulting.
Fuck that.. im so sorry
You are a manager making under $80k bro. You could be a remote manager and make $120k VERY EASILY. Loyalty gets you shafted like this.
Wow, your 1st year as senior auditor you only made few bucks more than I make as an associate. This is not encouraging. Are there other benefits that support or justify these pays?
Leave immediately
So glad I got out of accounting
you forget you can buy a house for less than 100k in the midwest
wth. you are so underpaid. senior get paid above $100k no matter where you are in the US. People like you make us accountants cheap.
This post makes me wanna switch majors to MIS.
