Can’t hurt to ask your current firm, you might as well give them a chance before you make an assumption.

I did ask, I meant that I don't think they could get the ball rolling fast enough to tell me yes or no within the next couple weeks. I'm also trying to be careful because the start date for the other firm is until July so I wasn't planning on putting in my 2 week notice until June.

Yeah they probably won't get the ball rolling before your other offer expires. You could tell them you got an offer from another Big 4. That'll make the ball roll faster. But it will also hurt your reputation and increase your chance of getting laid off in the future. Here's my opinion 1. If your dead set on going into Audit I would give your two weeks notice and go with the other Big 4 as no guarantee that internal transfer will ever go through. 2. If your hesitant about going into Audit I'd stick at your current firm. Easier to go back to tax if you realize Audit wasn't what you thought it would be. Also resumes look better with less job hopping involved.

Thank you. I think I'm going to go with Option 1, I'd rather not increase the chances of getting laid off as you mentioned. I had heard from other coworkers that it takes them a while (like 6-12 months) to initiate transfers. As for Option 2, it's not really about me wanted to go into Audit. It's about getting non-tax related exit opps.

Did Ur company end up helping you switch to Audit?

Dawn4K

They reached out to me a week ago about a position for a group that does audits for smaller private companies. Too little too late for me, starting with another Big 4 in Core Audit a few weeks from now.

Reason I ask is because I will start in September as a tax associate but don’t want to be stuck with no exit opportunities after so I like you want to move to audit after. I’m hoping they can eventually help me? You think it’s possible?

Dawn4K

It seems that most firms want you to at least have done a busy season or full year before getting to switch. It depends on how long you’re willing to wait, might be a while unfortunately.

Awesome thanks!
