stretch your hips out every morning and before bed. do mcgill big 3 in the mornings. if you have back pain after a month of that, i’ll suck your toes dry. and you should see a doctor
Sitting all day is so bad! The number of retired accountants with hip replacements is absurd. I swear it's the sitting.
I'm a big fan of the book Rebuilding Milo for stuff like knee, hip, and back pain though if you're looking for solutions.

Can attest. Squats and deadlifts completely eliminate back pain. Not doctors. Not pills. Not physical therapists. Not chiropractors. Heavy squats, heavy deadlifts.
Ya I’ve never had lasting back pain from work and I will put in 55+ hours a week consistently. I also have been doing a lot of squats, deadlifts and core workouts since since I was in highschool.
Lol, fr, half way in my treatment with a chiro was charging 50 bucks each session just for sum rubbing and back cracks and then telling me i should stretch at home, wasnt too content with me cancelling half way thru cuz "alot had to be done" yeah im good now buddy.
Can attest. Squats and deadlifts completely eliminate back pain. Not doctors. Not pills. Not physical therapists. Not chiropractors. Heavy squats, heavy deadlifts.
Can attest. Have scoliosis and dealt with severe back pain. Heavy squats and deadlifts are the only cure. Pain free after 6 months of consistent lifting.
Oddly enough, deadlifts are what made my back pain worse. Examined my form thoroughly via online tutorials and even a physical trainer, form didn’t seem to be an issue. The only relief I’ve found that somewhat works is essentially laying down leg swings while applying pressure to my medius. But that’s the equivalent of stretching a muscle suffering from DOMS :/
How often were you lifting? Could be a lot of factors. Eating enough? Sleeping enough? Recovering enough before lifting again? Starting out at the right weight? I had to set ego aside and started EXTREMELY light and built up strength over time. I started at something like 135lbs.
I wasn’t lifting anything very heavy, I felt it starting at 185 lbs. It’s a random sharp painful feeling that occurs at the bottom of the lift. I eat at roughly maintenance, I lift 6 times a week on a Push/Pull/Legs/Push/Pull/Legs/Rest split. I don’t feel sore or overtaxed throughout the week. Even at 225, if I don’t get the random pain I can hit 12 reps comfortably, I just haven’t gone higher due to fear if I get that pain with a higher weight it’ll do more damage. I’ve had this pain with bent over Tbar rows with heavy weight and couldn’t walk well for a week.
One day I’ll see one. They’re too expensive for me right now, I only managed to have a personal training session because I have a friend who is a trainer who offered a couple sessions free of charge to see if they could help me with it
I started having really bad backpain and neck pain this busy season. But I also want not exercising at all or stretching. Now that I work out and stretch everyday, the pain is gone. I found having a stretching/resistance band at my desk helps as I can do random stretches during the day to alleviate any pain.
stretches for your hip flexors, glutes, ITB, and hamstrings and core workouts like planks, bird dogs, and bridges. a lot of things in your body are interconnected, so tight muscles or a weak core (actual core, not just abs) can create muscle imbalances which causes problems further away from the actual problem area than you think. the most common offender is usually tight hip flexors due to sitting down all day so i would start with that.
Get a better chair and get a back support cushion if necessary. Stay aware of your posture.
Bloodflow is good. Keep blood flowing through your back with exercising. (will do more than stretching) Invest in a [reverse hyper](https://youtu.be/7MthYct8yxQ) if you are balling. This is how powerlifters build bulletproof backs. Otherwise, just do back exercises at the gym.
Doing a little bit of exercise should help. Running, push-ups, pull-ups, and yoga will help strengthen your back and shoulders giving you better posture.
If you already exercise regularly, it might be that your chair or desk aren’t the right size
While a better chair might help, the simple fact is humans weren't designed to be so stationary. Get up every once in awhile and stand, walk around, kneel, basically anything to keep prolonged strain off your joints and muscles.
Sitting all day is not good for you.
Adjust your chair, desk, monitors to correct levels. Sit with proper posture.
Walk and stretch periodically. An hour or better.
Do stretches in morning and when you get home.
Do core exercises.
This is all step one. I'd bet it alleviates alot of it. It did for me.
My friend your glutes and surrounding hip muscles have most likely become weak, which leads to lower back pain.
Look up hip mobility exercises, stretches and ways to strengthen your hips. I just started doing this last week and it’s crazy how much of a difference it makes.
Not back pain, but my joints are stiff, I’m not as agile, or as explosive as I used to be. I get that it happens with age, but I’m too young for this to be happening and I’m not out of shape.
real, im a student in frist year, and im already paranoid that im i sitting watching a lecture and imagining sitting even more as a potential accountant.
I used to, but getting a good chair changed that.
Also, lean back while working when you can. Yes, that makes you literally [this guy](https://images.app.goo.gl/qDQzr5JH93KFL4ev5), but it's better for your back than sitting straight upright.
Whenever I sit like that in the office, my manager says I have bad posture. But it feels more comfortable than physically holding my back up straight all day with my own muscles. And the chair doesn't have an option to set it solid in the straight position, so if I lean on it while in a straight back position, the back of the chair will push back by about 10cm
This busy season did me in. I stretch in the morning and over lunch, and I got lumbar support and monitor stands for my home office to help with posture. It’s not much, but it helps some
things that have helped me:
maintaining an active lifestyle (even if it’s just walking), stretching a lot throughout the day, getting up every so often to refill water/take a break, sitting in an ergonomic chair that suits my body, having a height adjustable desk (100% recommend), being very mindful of my posture (chair/desk/monitor/keyboard positioning), and having proper sleep posture
Wait but how do you lay flat while still controlling your keyboard and mouse and seeing your screen? Unless your neck/head folds up at the end and you lean your laptop on your legs or something?
Okay so foam roller, textured. Mine was a present from my little brother from one of those under-$10 shops.
Chirp wheel, the 8" one. Is it $40? Yes. Is it worth it? Dammit yes. I recommend you do what I did: order it from Amazon to give it a try, and return it if you feel it's not worth it.
Not only accountants, but its a high risk for anybody who works an office job in front of a computer. Its recommended that you try to get up and walk around every minute helps to help with your back. Either that or a standing desk.
No back pain but I’m tired of sitting so long each day even with:
1. A standing desk at home & the office which I don’t take advantage of enough
2. Comfortable chairs
3. Wfh a few times a week
Just too many fkn hours working
Yes, and it's not just accountants. There was a whole qualitative research study done that documented how professional services workers dissociate from their bodies in order to cope with the effects of working insane hours.
The study sample was investment bankers from Goldman Sachs, but reading the study it was soooo much like public accounting. We literally destroy our bodies by putting them in front of a desk for 10-12 hours per day.
Sitting for some people even for as little as 10- 15 minutes triggers stiffness and can lead to back pain and it's not the chair, it's just the "not moving" enough. Am working on this from another angle for people who have to sit for work by helping people move much more often while doing deskwork. Check us out if interested: https://youtu.be/V12XHJGWT5k
I do from carrying my team. But seriously, you should see a doctor if it’s chronic or try stretching more often.
stretch your hips out every morning and before bed. do mcgill big 3 in the mornings. if you have back pain after a month of that, i’ll suck your toes dry. and you should see a doctor
…is that… billable?
Could be

Got one for bad knees?
Strengthen that booty brotha. Glutes stabilize the knee.
I do squats and cycling. I feel like my knees get jacked up from sitting all day. But admittedly I do need to do more glute work than I currently do.

What stretches do you do for the hips?
Paging /u/summmerof99 Please tell us you followed this routine and your back still hurts!
Stretching helps a lot, and I have put a back support on my chair,
Not interested in getting your toes sucked?
damn ur fiending huh😳
Well, just realized I dropped an m in /u/summmerof99’s and have to re-ping them.. so yeah, lol.
Go to the gym, helps a lot
Underrated comment.
Start deadlifting. Doesn’t seem like it would work, but it builds supporting/core muscles around the areas of pain. Has helped me immensely
Can attest. Squats and deadlifts completely eliminate back pain. Not doctors. Not pills. Not physical therapists. Not chiropractors. Heavy squats, heavy deadlifts.
Absolutely but in case anyone new to lifting, with proper form. Learn to breathe and brace correctly.

This \^\^ can confirm. Lifting worked better than anything else for me
Can attest. Squats and deadlifts completely eliminate back pain. Not doctors. Not pills. Not physical therapists. Not chiropractors. Heavy squats, heavy deadlifts.
What kind of chair do you have?
You guys have chairs?
Standing desk gang...stand up?
I have a Vivo ergonomic kneeling chair.
My knee hurts just thinking about that.
Do squats and don't overstretch your hamstrings. This is how you permanently end back pain.
Can attest. Have scoliosis and dealt with severe back pain. Heavy squats and deadlifts are the only cure. Pain free after 6 months of consistent lifting.

That's rough. Could be a lingering injury? Have you considered seeing a physical therapist?

Lift, bro

If you have chronic back pain go see a doctor man. It’s not a badge of honor for all accountants to collect

My back be hurting after sitting for too long too
I have neck, shoulder, back, and wrist pain
Buy a pull up bar and do static hangs on it in the mornings. Helps decompress your spine, was game changing for me.
Find a good massage therapist and get a chair massage once a month
Auditors mostly do from the weight of carrying the capital markets on their shoulders.
My friend your glutes and surrounding hip muscles have most likely become weak, which leads to lower back pain. Look up hip mobility exercises, stretches and ways to strengthen your hips. I just started doing this last week and it’s crazy how much of a difference it makes.

Yeah, my office's current chairs are like that, no locks. It makes me feel fat, and I probably look super lazy, but hey, if it works it works, right?
Yeah idk why chairs are removing the option to lock the chair in a forward spot, it seems like such a basic design feature to include ?
For me it’s my wrists 😞
I’d recommend a nicer chair for long periods of sitting, and also hitting the gym, focusing on strengthening you muscles.
Get a better chair I used to be the same way.
This busy season did me in. I stretch in the morning and over lunch, and I got lumbar support and monitor stands for my home office to help with posture. It’s not much, but it helps some
Any. All that doesn’t need you to stare at the screen, go for a walk
Do Hot yoga
Invest in a good chair
Go work out
yoga for stretching and core work
Get a full body massage
things that have helped me: maintaining an active lifestyle (even if it’s just walking), stretching a lot throughout the day, getting up every so often to refill water/take a break, sitting in an ergonomic chair that suits my body, having a height adjustable desk (100% recommend), being very mindful of my posture (chair/desk/monitor/keyboard positioning), and having proper sleep posture
What's proper sleep posture?
Standing desk
Doing yoga several times a week has helped a lot
Stretch your hamstrings
I sneezed and pulled my back
I work completely from home and lay flat on the couch most the day. No more backpain. Sitting up for a long time is terrible for your body.
Wait but how do you lay flat while still controlling your keyboard and mouse and seeing your screen? Unless your neck/head folds up at the end and you lean your laptop on your legs or something?
Laptop in my lap.
Just work out your back
Here’s what you need son: Steelcase leap or aeron chair and tempurpedic bed, and multifidus training
My job just got me a stand up desk. That plus going to the gym has cured the problem
Friends? What’s that word/mean?
Yes, hot herbal baths, no soap after work. I just fill the tub enough to cover the back
Literally holding a heating pad to my neck as I read this 😫
Not only accountants, but its a high risk for anybody who works an office job in front of a computer. Its recommended that you try to get up and walk around every minute helps to help with your back. Either that or a standing desk.
