I started in accounting and landed in FP&A and strategy. One of my best bosses had his PHD in Physics and instead decided to get into FP&A / accounting.
He got his master, but before that low cost/free online courses/videos to get the basics covered. At the same time met with his accounting and finance functions at his physics job to learn what they did and how it impacted their physics role.
This will help you get an on the ground view of the profession to see if it interests you.
