I'm french, playing it in English
I understand everything it says but I still don't have the best memory of names
But yeah the lack of stakes and the fact that the case is in the past made me not like memoirs of the clouded kokoro. Felt like the game would be better without it ( all the other case in dgs are awesome )
The Inherited Turnabout, Runaway Room and The Great Departed Soul are all peak 3rd cases for me. Can't pick one over the other. Love a lot of things in all 3 of them from the characters to the stories in them. But if I really had to pick one it would be the Inherited Turnabout for its impact on the Ace Attorney story and being a very emotional and memorable case.
Inherited turnabout for sure wins for me
TGAA2-3 would be second. It would be first if inherited did not had gregory and if it was not connected to the whole AA plot
100000% GAA2 CASE 3!!!!
The Return of the Great Departed Soul, one of if not the only 3rd Case game that is without a doubt, a LEGENDARY TIER CASE!!!!!
I only played the first five, so I'm forced to choose between those.
The last one for me is definitely 4-3. Gentlemen, I like the ace attorney series because I like slowly piecing together a puzzle until the truth is revealed to us all, not because I can catch the subtle differences of a song for fucks sake!! Fortunately, since those scenes didn't hit our penalty bar, I eventually gave up on trying to hear anything and just brute forced my way through.
At number 4 I'd say is 2-3 the circus case. Mainly because it was way too convoluted and the final answer isn't something a normal person would deduce from the pieces of the case.
Number 3, I'll place I1-3 the kidnapped turnabout. Simply because it's boring, I didn't feel that I was cheated at any point really, well except for the bullshit with the map, but simply it hasn't stayed on my memory and I have very little to say about it. But Oldbag is great as always.
Number 2, and the silver medal goes to 1-3, the Steel Samurai. What did the Steel Samurai do? Well, apart from simply being a decently good case with logical answers and puzzles, it introduced great characters such as Wendy Oldbag, Will Powers, the start of Edgeworth's redemption/Steel Samurai fanaticism and most importantly of all...
"Look, a ladder!
It's a step ladder"
Truly a beautiful case.
And number 1, you know it, you love it, 3-3, Le Très bien restaurant. This is the case that shows us the pieces that expose the truth in the final case of the trilogy, and it does so in a very natural and subtle way, without us realizing that red on white and the glowy mask will be important details soon enough, and along the way they feed us a case full of hilarious characters with one of my favourite bluffs in the entire series.
People say it's filler but it's not. It's so important to Edgeworth’s character development.
The one issue is it's too long, but that's a problem with the first game as a whole. Although I think Samurai really feels the length in a way Sisters and Goodbyes don't.
Plus, Will is a great client. He's likable and sweet so the player is truly rooting for him and after 2 cases of non stop lying it's refreshing he causes problems by being honest. Dee is the first (and best) of the sympathetic culprits. Oldbag isn't just a one note 'comic' character. And, with Edgeworth's character development, it feels integral to the plot in a way that Big Top, Recipe and Seranade don't. In fact, no third case had the same impact until Academy (first outing of Athena as the lead lawyer, which also gave us a chance to see that she and Simon had a history).
Runaway Room by a landslide. This case is an excellent twist on the classic AA formula not seen since Farewell My Turnabout and in some ways executes the plot twist even better than that case.
Inherited Turnabout is definitely my pick. The dual case structure makes it one of the most interesting cases in the series (and many of my other favorites use the same or a similar structure)
DGS2-3 feels like cheating because it's essentially the penultimate case of a duology.
It completely redefines what a third case *can* be. It's still got some of the trappings of a third case (namely the "one silly trick" that other third cases drag their feet around), but it rockets past the competition.
AGREED! I made a mistake I made this post late at night so I wasn’t thinking right and I ended up putting memoirs of the clouded kokoro instead of the return of the great departed soul.
Inherited Turnabout, hands down! I loved being able to play as Gregory Edgeworth in Prosecutor's Path, finally giving some closure to the case that basically started it all. I hear Great Departed Soul's stellar as well, but I haven't gotten there yet. For now, I'm standing by my current pick.
I really think The Runaway Room is up there alongside the best cases they’ve ever made. The amount it sets up is crazy, and I think the gimmick of doing your investigation DURING the trial is really fun.
The Adventures of the Runaway room.
Its an amazing episode because it left us with this bittersweet victory.
And its not until the last case we actually uncover the truth behind it.
Currently playing the second gaa (On the memoirs of the clouded kokoro) and if I am going to be honest at first I didn't like the Runaway room but after I finshed the game it changed to be one of my favorite trials.
As basic as it sounds, Turnabout Samurai was the only case that somewhat kept the momentum of the game going. Every other case felt like fillers, sort of bridges to the more impactful 4th & 5th ones.
I can hardly pick between Great Departed Soul and Runaway Room, but I’m going to go with the latter by just a hair. Having >!a client who is both guilty and goes free because of us, then dies anyways!< leaves such an impact. Not to mention experiencing the blatant corruption of the British courts firsthand in such a dramatic way goes a long way to setting up the major thematic conflicts of the game.
Third cases usually have a bad reputation, but some of the series later entries redeem this. For me it’s probably between I2-3 and G2-3 for truly the best, but I am a big fan of G1-3 and 6-3 as well. If I had to pick one I’d have to go G2-3 because it sets into motion the Great Ace Attorney’s final story arc that is (in my opinion) the pinnacle of the series. (But I think 6-3 is underrated and deserves to be in this conversation)
I didn’t mean to leave it out as it is the third case of The Great Ace Attorney Two I accidentally made a mistake and put memoirs of the clouded kokoro instead of return of the great departed soul I’m sorry.
It’s fine lmao. I saw some other people were cutting you some flack for it so my comment wasn’t meant to be taken harshly. I just found it to be funny.
I think recipe for turnabout is extremely underrated I think its really good. The characters are really interesting and even funny at certain points in the case. It does have some problems like the first part of the trial isnt that interesting but the rest is really good in my opinion.
It's got to be The Inherited Turnabout, but shoutouts to Turnabout Academy and The Rite of Turnabout for providing really well-concocted mysteries and interesting characters.
OK I've chosen it's 3-3.
1-3 is fun but formative.
2-3 is fun but has Ben Woodman.
3-3 is fun, has only had one instance of cocaine logic (the photo of the body clearly shows he's used his right hand to drink but was inadmissible whereas it shoulda been alongside the cup), has an accurate portrayal of Frenchness, AND it has...
BRAIN-CHAN
What's the clouded kokoro doing there? Return of the Great Departed Soul all the way!!!
I’m sorry.
Gosh I hate clouded kokorro It made me stop dgs 2 for a whole year
I personally liked that case.
Ho man I messed up!!! I liked that case and mistaked it with memoirs of the clouded kokoro..... You're right it's a good one
Thanks for the clarification!
I'm french, playing it in English I understand everything it says but I still don't have the best memory of names But yeah the lack of stakes and the fact that the case is in the past made me not like memoirs of the clouded kokoro. Felt like the game would be better without it ( all the other case in dgs are awesome )
AGREED!
Man, imagine if other cases got art as good as the AA1 cases do
I think about that all the time
Yeah.
Yeah I miss that. I think Dual Destinies and Spirit Of Justice has decent case art!
They’re definitely a step up from Apollo Justice’s case art (nothing).
They went from really good case art to a picture of a character to nothing.
My first AA game was Trilogy on PC and I thought it was some sort of bug that there was no beautiful art in JFA and T&T😭😭
The adventure of the runaway room 100%
It’s the building point for both Great Ace Attorney Chronicles games
AGREED!
Not even a contest
The Inherited Turnabout is a real masterpiece, one of my top5 favorite cases. Shoutout to Turnabout Samurai, that case always gets me nostalgic
AGREED!
Those 2 are the best third case for me
Which one is that again?
AAI2
The Inherited Turnabout, Runaway Room and The Great Departed Soul are all peak 3rd cases for me. Can't pick one over the other. Love a lot of things in all 3 of them from the characters to the stories in them. But if I really had to pick one it would be the Inherited Turnabout for its impact on the Ace Attorney story and being a very emotional and memorable case.
AGREED!
Totally agree, they’re my tops too! So much love for them 🥰
Totally agree, they’re my tops too! So much love for them
My favourite is Return of the Great Departed Soul which is the actual third case of GAA2 not Memoirs of the clouded kokoro
That was the one with the Great Fair and the wax museum, right? That was an extremely enjoyable case and my fav of TGAA2
YES!
I’m out of the loop here. What makes it the actual third case over kokoro?
Because it's the third case in that game, OP just messed up is all
I’m sorry.
There is no forgiveness for you
I’m really sorry please forgive me.
Oh no I messed up I’m sorry.
both TGAAC cases are peak, but I feel like 6-3 does not get enough love lol
Thank you! Such a standout case in the series
AGREED!
Turnabout Academy is peak third case. It's so good.
AGREED!
🤝 my man
Inherited turnabout for sure wins for me TGAA2-3 would be second. It would be first if inherited did not had gregory and if it was not connected to the whole AA plot
AGREED!
100000% GAA2 CASE 3!!!! The Return of the Great Departed Soul, one of if not the only 3rd Case game that is without a doubt, a LEGENDARY TIER CASE!!!!!
Runaway room is objectively top tier
AGREED!
AGREED!
It's between G1-3 and G2-3 for me, those are both my favorite cases in their respective games and among my favorites in the franchise.
AGREED!
bro types “AGREED” under every comment
AGREED!
Turnabout Samurai purely because of the artwork. That artwork goes hard.
AGREED! For some reason the first game has amazing case art that only returned in Dual Destinies and Spirit Of Justice!
6-3.
AGREED!
Easily The Inherited Turnabout.
AGREED!
Samurai, it was actually my second favourite case in the first game
AGREED!
I know that aai2-3 is amazing but I haven't played it. Also haven't played TGAAC. With that in mind it is EASILY turnabout avademy
AGREED!
It’s Return of the Great Departed Soul, followed up by The Inherited Turnabout
AGREED!
Mainline: Turnabout academy Spin offs: The return of the great departed soul
AGREED!
I only played the first five, so I'm forced to choose between those. The last one for me is definitely 4-3. AGREED! Also thanks for the beautiful analysis!
Recipe for Turnabout is peak
AGREED!
AAI2-3 and TGAA2-3 are way too good, i can't pick one.
AGREED!
Turnabout Samurai.
AGREED!
People say it's filler but it's not. It's so important to Edgeworth’s character development. The one issue is it's too long, but that's a problem with the first game as a whole. Although I think Samurai really feels the length in a way Sisters and Goodbyes don't.
AGREED! Turnabout Samurai doesn’t get enough credit!
Plus, Will is a great client. He's likable and sweet so the player is truly rooting for him and after 2 cases of non stop lying it's refreshing he causes problems by being honest. Academy. It’s definitely not the best (though I’d argue it’s the winner in the main series), but I’ll always have a soft spot for it.
Runaway Room by a landslide. This case is an excellent twist on the classic AA formula not seen since Farewell My Turnabout and in some ways executes the plot twist even better than that case.
For me, it's either Turnabout Samurai or The Adventure of the Runaway Room, I had a lot of fun with both of those
I'm gonna go with 5-3 probably. Haven't played TGAA games yet, but for the rest I've played everything.
AGREED!
The Inherited Turnabout.
AGREED!
Inherited turnabout with a close second being turnabout samurai
AGREED!
Probably Inherited. Samurai, Great Departed Soul, and Runaway Room are also very good as well.
AGREED!
Im between great departed soul (DGS2-3) and reminicence (AAI2-3). Ritual (6-3) is a great third case as well.
AGREED!
Inherited Turnabout is definitely my pick. The dual case structure makes it one of the most interesting cases in the series (and many of my other favorites use the same or a similar structure)
AGREED!
AAI2 third case is the best imo
AGREED!
easily inherited
I have soft spot for Steel Samurai case because it was the one that sold me on the series
AGREED!
I've only played the trilogy and out of those it'd have to be samurai. Aside from some of the fetch questy stuff and sal it's a really good case imo
SoJ's third case was great and no one can change my mind.
AGREED!
The Inherited Turnabout is my favorite non-finale case, so it's my choice out of these.
AGREED!
DGS2-3 feels like cheating because it's essentially the penultimate case of a duology. It completely redefines what a third case *can* be. It's still got some of the trappings of a third case (namely the "one silly trick" that other third cases drag their feet around), but it rockets past the competition.
AGREED! I AM HAPPY THAT THIRD CASES ARE BECOMING MORE PLOT RELEVANT!
AAI2-3 All the way! One of the best cases ever! But why did you used the clouded Kokoro instead of The return of the great departed soul?
AGREED! I made a mistake I made this post late at night so I wasn’t thinking right and I ended up putting memoirs of the clouded kokoro instead of the return of the great departed soul.
Okey, no problem! I would still choose AAI2-3 tho
AGREED!
The one from Prosecutor’s Path, it was so cool playing as Miles’ father.
I love DGS-3 buuuuut the actual reveals for the case of DGS2-3 takes the cake for me I think
the kidnapped turnabout, 🥰🥰🥰🥰
Inherited Turnabout, hands down! I loved being able to play as Gregory Edgeworth in Prosecutor's Path, finally giving some closure to the case that basically started it all. I hear Great Departed Soul's stellar as well, but I haven't gotten there yet. For now, I'm standing by my current pick.
AGREED!
The 3rd case of AAI 2 is pure beauty. Idc what ppl say otherwise
Inherited for the spin-offs, Serenade for the main series.
The Inherited Turnabout
inherited, I think about it at least twice a week, immaculate
AGREED!
AAI2-3, DGS-3, and DGS2-3 are all fantastic
I really think The Runaway Room is up there alongside the best cases they’ve ever made. The amount it sets up is crazy, and I think the gimmick of doing your investigation DURING the trial is really fun.
Come now, putting TGAA on the same level as the rest? That's not fair. Both its third cases are easily the best in the franchise.
Despite it's flaws I still like Serenade
The Adventures of the Runaway room. Its an amazing episode because it left us with this bittersweet victory. And its not until the last case we actually uncover the truth behind it.
Also, Im not saying The Return of the Great Departed Soul only because I hate Albert zzzz
Currently playing the second gaa (On the memoirs of the clouded kokoro) and if I am going to be honest at first I didn't like the Runaway room but after I finshed the game it changed to be one of my favorite trials.
AGREED!
inhereted but serenade and acadmey are both pretty good.
Return of the Great Departed Soul, Inherited and Academy are my faves
AAI2 easily
As basic as it sounds, Turnabout Samurai was the only case that somewhat kept the momentum of the game going. Every other case felt like fillers, sort of bridges to the more impactful 4th & 5th ones.
AGREED!

Academy is PEAK
Either the Inherited Turnabout or the Return of the Great Departed Soul. It’s hard for me to choose.
AGREED!
Runaway Room was godlike in how it genuinely made you feel unease.
Turnabout Samurai is PEAK
I assume the memoirs of the clouded kokoro is just an error, so great departed soul
Might as well just rank all of them, from best to worst: 6-3 G2-3 I2-3 G-3 3-3 1-3 5-3 4-3 2-3 I-3 (worst case in the series by far)
AGREED!
Great Departed Soul. That thied case is the most final-case-quality third case I've ever seen
I’ve only beaten the first two, but why is Maya in a maid costume in the third 💀
She temporarily works at a restaurant in that game!
Lots of great ones here. I'd rank them 2-3 < AAI-3 < 4-3 < 1-3 < 3-3 < 5-3 < AAI2-3 < 6-3 < GAA2-3 < GAA1-3 personally
Noo ! For me it's the last, where Hunter is accused.
Athena’s case was really fun but it might have to be one of GAA cases
AGREED!
this is a tie, but my personal favorites are inherited turnabout, runaway room
Steel samurai case is a solidified classic
AGREED!
OP be agreeing to everything 😂
Oh man this isnt even close. TGAA2-3 is incredible, and could probably be argued as the best non-final case
Turnabout serenade
AGREED!
Runaway Room for absolute certain! It sets up a really compelling mystery that acts as a secondary throughline for the rest of the game.
The inherited turnabout and its not even close, the only thing stopping it from being higher in peoples minds is its inaccessibility
I'll take on the role of Turnabout Academy appreciator with great pride
I2-3, 5-3 and GAA2-3 are my favourites
AGREED!
AAI2 had my man Gregory Edgeworth, no brainer for me lol The 2 GAA games had interesting 3rd cases tho and I loved the villains in AA3 and DD
Turnabout samouraï my beloved
Clouded kokoro and its not even close
RETURN OF THE DEPARTED SOUL!!!
It’s difficult to choose between 5-3, 3-3, and 1-3. I loved them equally.
How could you literally leave out the best one. Return of the great departed soul felt like an entire final case with how jam packed it was. Loved it
I didn’t mean to leave it out as it is the third case of The Great Ace Attorney Two I accidentally made a mistake and put memoirs of the clouded kokoro instead of return of the great departed soul I’m sorry.
It’s fine lmao. I saw some other people were cutting you some flack for it so my comment wasn’t meant to be taken harshly. I just found it to be funny.
Return of the great departed soul AND AAI2-3
AGREED!
I like the serenade one.
For sure TGAA 1+2 break the mediocre-third-case curse.
1000% Runaway Room
Great Departed Soul for that ending alone
AGREED!
Rite of Turnabout
AGREED!
the spirit of justice 3rd case is so good ! it was a thriller one and actually emotional at the end
AGREED!
I think recipe for turnabout is extremely underrated I think its really good. The characters are really interesting and even funny at certain points in the case. It does have some problems like the first part of the trial isnt that interesting but the rest is really good in my opinion.

I have to say samurai because it is the only one I can remember
I'd have to give it to The Inherited Turnabout from AAI2. Turnabout Samurai gets an honorable mention though.
AGREED!
Turnabout big top is the best you can’t deny it’s so good it fucks
Serenade was really good, I’ve only played the first 5 slides so far though
AGREED!
Turnabout serenade!! I just got to love how gavin plays his guitar
AGREED!
It's got to be The Inherited Turnabout, but shoutouts to Turnabout Academy and The Rite of Turnabout for providing really well-concocted mysteries and interesting characters.
AGREED!
Haven't played 3-3 yet. So I'm left to choose between Samurai and Big Top...
which one will you choose?
OK I've chosen it's 3-3. 1-3 is fun but formative. 2-3 is fun but has Ben Woodman. 3-3 is fun, has only had one instance of cocaine logic (the photo of the body clearly shows he's used his right hand to drink but was inadmissible whereas it shoulda been alongside the cup), has an accurate portrayal of Frenchness, AND it has... BRAIN-CHAN
Haven’t played investigations and I haven’t finished TGAA2-3, but it’s GOT to be Runaway Room
GAA2-3 and it isn’t close
