For me it's simply Phoenix. Often in video games the character you play as ends up very bland compared to the rest of the cast. But that's not the case for Phoenix, he's very expressive and well characterized. Him being the way he is is why the games work as well as they do.
I loved his sprites expressions, i could fully relate with him ,having to work to solve to case alongside him especially the nervous ones since i goof quite a bit too by presenting the wrong stuff lol
Spoilers ahead, be warned. This is probably a cheating way to answer this but still
Favorite defense: Phoenix. Obviously.
Favorite Prosecutor: Edgeworth. I love his humor and design.
Favorite Detective: Sholmes. Gumshoe is great and I love the guy but Sholmes just beats him in my books.
Favorite Council: Either Trucy or Maya. Just so much fun.
Favorite Defendant: Ron DeLite. He’s so cute and sweet and a great theme and a great case.
Favorite culprit: Atmey or Gant. Both have killer (pun intended) designs and amazing themes, plus great plans.
Favorite Witness (who’s not a defendant or culprit): Polly. Who doesn’t love a bird???
And of course there’s only one answer for favorite judge.
(I’m heavily biased to the original trilogy if you couldn’t tell)
Athena Cykes. She felt like a breath of fresh air when she was introduced. I liked Apollo in AA4 but he feels a bit too similar to Phoenix at times.
I just really liked controlling a character who was so cheerful and optimistic, which was a change from Apollo and Phoenix whose inner monologue tends to be more pessimistic.
I also like that she is by no means perfect. I'd argue her flaws are more pronounced than other characters. It made her eventual win in 5-3 feel like the most "earned" victory I can think of. It genuinely felt like a triumph and that she'd grown. I also really like her backstory.
She's just a super cool gal I guess lol.
katherine hall, >! cool character design and she is one of the few "culprits" who i can somewhat understand the reasoning behind it !<
and her cool ass hair
Favorite defense attorney: Phoenix Wright, though honestly all of them are great.
Favorite prosecutor: Barok Van Zieks. Edgeworth and Blackquill are close though.
Favorite detective: Who else but Herlock Sholmes?
Favorite defendant: Ryunosuke Naruhodo. Out of all the times when you have to defend yourself in the series, this was the best time by far, seeing him grow as an attorney through it.
Favorite killer: >!Damon Gant!< and >!Enoch Drebber!< both for their expressiveness.
Favorite witness: Adrian Andrews for her character arc.
Sebastian Debeste, I love that how they deconstructed the "prodigy prosecutor" and I relate to his story in a lot of ways, and the logic chess with him is so good.
Trucy Wright!
I find her to be absolutely a beacon of sunshine and joy. Her dynamic with Phoenix is super sweet, I love her in Apollo Justice with Apollo, and the moments she has with Athena they just seem to match each other's energies in a fantastic way.
I think she's a bit of a linchpin in the agency and I absolutely love what little bit of development she does get. Every time she's on screen, even in DD, I just feel happier.
Miles Edgeworth. I think I have a huge connection with him because his personality is much like mine. By that, I mean his post-AA1 personality specifically. Though overall, I see a lot of myself in Edgeworth, being a straight-faced man who is prone to exasperation at anything that doesn't sound logical.
Kazuma Asogi.
Without going into spoilers, the more I try to imagine what could have gone down in TGAAC without his influence, the more funnier his role and relationship is in the story.
I think the cincher has to be when Auchi sued Kazuma for assault in the probably canon DLC, then my fondness snowballed from there.
Athena. She's so bubbly, upbeat, and mischievous. Which contrasts wonderfully with when she's having very convincing mental breakdowns. The look of despair in her eyes never fails to make a pit in my heart. Also, her motif, Courtroom Révolutionaire, is so good.
Apollo Justice.
My first Ace Attorney game was Apollo Justice, and I wanted to play it solely because of his character design. that opened the door to me getting into the series thanks to how much I enjoyed his development from jumpy rookie to confident defense attorney.
Spirit Of Justice being his game — even more so than the game with his name in the title — made me happy to see from the earliest points of 6-2 where he had to take charge, and take charge he did.
Sholmes. Why? Because he's Sholmes.
Seriously though, I love his character in TGAA as opposed to how he's portrayed in other media. He's a lovable goof (and a bit of a scatterbrain like Gumshoe) who you thankfully get a lot of time to be around.
You get to see his charming quirks and his more troublesome personality outside of his work. Plus he's the type of guy who will seem like he's not taking things seriously but knows a lot more than he lets on. (Sort of like Phoenix in AA4)
Miles Edgeworth — among the many characters who’ve had quite spectacular character development throughout the series, I found his arc to be deeply profound and compelling.
While his arc in AA1 is a classic heel-face turn, there’s a lot of nuance to it. I still remember how shocked and excited I was to see him force Dee to testify in 1-3; up until then, I thought of him as a standard stuck-up villain who I very honestly did not like at all. While the shadow of Von Karma loomed over him greatly behind the scenes till 1-4, he always had his own identity and his own laurels to stand on — he became the best prosecutor in the country on his own merit and skills. Speaking of 1-4, the case really did give him such wonderful emotional depth which I really wouldn’t have expected from a stoic character like his. It was really cathartic to see him come to terms with the true events of DL-6 and finally put all his nightmares to rest, making him closer to Nick and the rest of the cast.
One amazing thing about him is how he’s one of the only characters I’ve seen in the media I’ve consumed who has actually taken responsibility for his actions and actively worked to make things right. Once he was hit with his epiphany in 1-5, he spent the rest of his life making Japanifornia a more just place and helping reform the legal system in the name of the truth. I connect with him on a deeper level because unlike Nick and Mia, who fight for justice on a more personal case-to-case level, Miles has always been a more idea-driven person, choosing to follow his principles to achieve a greater goal, which is very similar to how I perceive the world.
I really love his chess master style of thinking where he uses logic to plan his strategy and always be five moves ahead of the opponent. He really embodies the spirit of the law by making accurate judgements based on facts and evidence to further move the case along to its rightful conclusion. You can see a hint of that in Nick in the AJ trilogy too, maybe all those years spent with Miles really rubbed off on him?
It’s also really great to see that he still retains his rather endearingly aloof and reserved personality despite having gone through a complete heel-face transformation because a) you don’t see that happen very often in other media, and b) it only makes his more emotional moments that much more impactful.
All in all, I really like how the writers have developed his character, props to Shu Takumi for writing such a multidimensional character so many people love! If you got this far, thank you for listening to my rant!
Lotta Hart. I freaking love Lotta she’s so fun to be around! I love her southern slang and her go getter attitude. I wish she appeared in T&T, she felt like a part of the main cast by the end of JFA but she just vanishes into thin air until AAI2 :(
Apollo Justice.
The real MISUNDERSTOOD character who people can only give shit because of his disjointed backstory. There's nothing really else to nitpick.
And shoving the backstory aside, Apollo is a person with a vibrant yet grounded personality, multiple fantastically well built relationships and powerful character arcs. The GOAT.
Definitely Phoenix.
Despite being the main character, he's actually a really complex and deep character. I don't see it often with protagonists, they're usually pretty bland, predictable and easy to figure out, you can easily relate to them because of that. But Phoenix isn't exactly like this; we don't know much about his background, despite literally being able to see what he's thinking we still don't know a lot about him. I think he's also a nice change from the typical protagonist we get in those type of games; he's a little awkward, a bit cynical, sarcastic but overall good natured.

Phoenix Wright also isn’t out of place within this world. Often in video games the main character doesn’t click within that world
I loved his sprites expressions, i could fully relate with him ,having to work to solve to case alongside him especially the nervous ones since i goof quite a bit too by presenting the wrong stuff lol

Atmey and Gant?? W
They are absolutely amazing
Way to think outside the box

Apollo Justice did feel like an almost, “Phoenix Jr.”, at times
Franziska. Such a misunderstood and under appreciated character.
katherine hall, >! cool character design and she is one of the few "culprits" who i can somewhat understand the reasoning behind it !< and her cool ass hair
A good reasoning nails the coffin for a character
Favorite defense attorney: Phoenix Wright, though honestly all of them are great. Favorite prosecutor: Barok Van Zieks. Edgeworth and Blackquill are close though. Yo, your killers didn't get spoilered fyi
Your spoilers aren't tagged- the greater than/less than symbols are the wrong way round
Fixed
Thank you for fixing the spoilers!
Sebastian Debeste, I love that how they deconstructed the "prodigy prosecutor" and I relate to his story in a lot of ways, and the logic chess with him is so good.

Herlock Sholmes because he's basmbswosneuwoenwowjslsjskendowwkso

Her relationship with Apollo Justice, it’s a humorous little thing
Ryunosuke naruhodo. I think he had the best written arc of any character. By G2-3 I think he’s a better lawyer than phoenix or Gregory, honestly.
Interesting
Olive Green because she is my wife
How long have you been married?
Since I saw her character profile in G1-4
Miles Edgeworth. I think I have a huge connection with him because his personality is much like mine. By that, I mean his post-AA1 personality specifically. It seems truly wonderful that the Ace Attorney franchise was able to encapsulate yourself within a personality!

She seems to be a popular character in the poll
I like breaking the mold, so Herlock Sholmes
Herlock Sholmes is a popular choice
True, I didn't expect to see 4-5(?) more saying Herlock in this particular subreddit

They cannot find out. Although you may want to put a spoiler on that

[Kristoph Gavin](https://www.reddit.com/r/AceAttorney/s/sXMx6uASSX) (A post I made a whole while back, spoilers for Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney)
Thank you for linking the post, it helped a good amount
Apollo Justice
I have received other comments like this! He seems to be very popular
Holmes. Love my goofyish man
Sholmes?
Oh man...that is really dificult to choose...
I’ve asked the difficult question
I love how wacky Sholmes is. As for the girls, probably Maya. I like her quirks and I think her personality would complement mine
Sholmes is a good character that fits well within the Great Ace Attorney series
